Is there a link to the WA academy squad mate?

Interesting re Sharks. I wonder if it’s a great breeding ground for afl but the team aspect of colts often seems lacking. Everyone for himself at the expense of the team perhaps. Thoughts?

Hard to say without seeing their game. I think a number of their players are from the country though and they seem to be elevated quicker then the metro boys.

Same kid stood out from the last time futures played. number 9- clearance specialist with precision kicking and a clear head. Also number 19 played well from the back line.
Jed hagan played for EF on Sunday- I am not sure if it was his first game back but he looked very small, underdone and inefficient. For the kid who won best player at the last two National u15 carnivals, I expected him to dominate.

Hagan picked to debut on a wing for the EF colts team v SF this weekend...a number of other Gero boys playing as well in Sandy, Curley, Paholski, Tirant and Carroll....surprised no McVee, Bartlett or Dann playing....

Yes- the colts coach told hagan he was debuting immediately following the last futures game. A smack in the face for the other futures kids who haven’t been allowed to train with the colts due to Covid especially when there are other futures players who are stronger and imo better. But the country kids get the red carpet at EF.

EF colts pipped at the death by SF colts....Jed Hagan picking up 17 possessions and kicking a goal on debut...not a bad effort for a 15 year old.....Gorringe and Carroll once again EF main play makers....Freo NGA boy Chris Walker picking up 20 odd possessions and a goal....fellow Freo NGA and twin brother Brandon picking up 14/15 possessions....kicking 0.5 in the last didn't help EF colts cause in a tight game....

Isn’t Brandon the better twin (or more likely to get picked up)?
I’m liking gorringe’s game and his improvement on what was already a solid base.
i watched until half time- what happened in the last qtr? Pressure or lack of structure perhaps.
Who stood out and handled the last qtr pressure better from both sides?

Hagan seems like he’s going to be a monster

The kid on paper did well.

You seen a bit salty.

You watched the futures game and series did you? No stats for futures so not sure what your referring to with looking good on paper. Just looking for a bit of transparency and equal opportunity for kids that’s all. Nothing to do with being salty mate. The best EF futures kids weren’t given the opportunity to train with colts except one who wasn’t the best in futures. You do the maths. Not begrudging the young fella who got that chance.

Conor McPartland starred with 40 disposals for Perth Colts and Perth came back with a stirring win and kicked a goals after the siren.

Was at Peel/Perth today, my insights:

Colts:
Isiah Winder (02, Peel) - cleanest hands in the contest. Kicking for goal was off today, but knows how to push into space, teammates always look for him. Towelled up O'Driscoll one on one.
Nathan O'Driscoll (02, Perth) - struggled to make an impact with ball in hand, seemed to be playing a defensive role on Winder early, moved to an outside role in the second half. Looks lost when he's not the #1 ball winner. Kicking seems to have improved from last season.
Conor McPartland (01, Perth) - looked stronger than every other player on the ground as an overager, good tank for someone built so big. Great ball-winning ability, kicking leaves a lot to be desired. Involved in everything.
Harry Quartermaine (02, Perth) - 191cm so he's not a real key forward, but absolutely gave academy kid Polson a true bath today. Strong above his head, explosive on the lead, seems to be able to lose his man with ease. 7.3 very rare in today's game.
Jaiden Hunter (02, Perth) - great leap in the ruck, easily dominant. Quite mobile for a tall. One to watch.
Jack Evans (02, Perth) - looked handy around goals and across half forward. Light framed but seems to think the game very well.
Tyrell Metcalf (02, Peel) - real impact type player, great bursts of speed, chiseling left foot, very flashy
Harley Corbett (01, Perth) - supremely athletic tall, uses his pace and spread well. Did lose his head for 5 minutes in the 3rd term but looked classy with ball in hand.
Tony Musa (02, Perth) - athletic defender in the Aliir mould. Uses his size well in the contest and is quick by foot when the ball hits the ground. A project player.
Joshua Draper (04, Peel) - kicked 2 goals, very quick on the lead. Has plenty of time to fill out his frame and probably still has room to grow

League:
Logan McDonald (02, Perth) - gave Peel defender Giudici a lesson in football. Kicked three and set up another with his work on deck. Presented well and fought hard

I remember speaking to a work mate regarding a similar situation.

She complained that her son (from Geraldton) wasn’t the opportunity as city kids.

One player she complained about didn’t train with the combined squad due to injury but when fit he was gifted spot on the team.

She said that because the player had a father who played for Geelong and Perth he got favorable treatment.

Do you know who the player was?

By the way, her son ended up at North Fremantle and the player could have gone father son at West Coast, Fremantle and Geelong.

The other player decided West Coast.

Yep- you are talking about BC but I’m not sure what the relevance is. It’s not personal - I don’t have a kid that this is affecting. I just can’t understand EF’s process if they are not choosing kids based on performances. And that the fact that that one kid they did elevated to colts played well doesn’t weaken my argument- it just adds another question mark over how well other kids may have gone- kids who I believe were better players when playing alongside chosen kid. That’s it.

Interesting to see two players for Perth colts, one picking up 40 possessions, the other kicking 7.3, have both come through EF colts/development programs, have moved elsewhere seeking opportunities...and hit the ground successfully running. I assume Gorringe will go back to PSA footy, big loss for the EF colts side if so....though great to see a good number of 15/16/17 yr olds, getting an opportunity for EF colts yesterday and holding their own apparently...pretty sure they out numbered the 18 & 19 yr old players....hopefully that number 9 from the EF futures you have noticed Big Dance gets a run for EF colts....pity we don't have a name.

Do you think their an issues with the Sharks development selection or it’s just some players develop later?
