So for the people who follow Subiaco, who do they replace Tholstrup with? I don't know Subi as well as Subi people but I don't see an obvious replacement. Would they dare risk bringing up Koopa Walsh from Esperance or is there someone else who can play forward?

And I'm guessing Lance Collard won't play again this year either after numerous injuries. I'm not saying Subiaco can't win but it takes the edge off the contest.

Only my opinion but I don’t think they would move Walsh in for the prelim good player for next year. Possibly Bartlett to FF and Kentfield to CHF they are blessed on the flanks and pockets in forward line so options there. You are correct though no straight up replacement for Tholstrup absence.

I thought Ethan Donaghy was the one that changed the game for Peel. 22 touches 8 tackles. Runs hard both ways and always there in the packs then running hard to get space or to the next contest.. only blemish was he could of iced the game with a shot on goal that missed.

But West Perth deserved the win . Peel cant turn up at half time and expect to win games.

I like Donaghy's game - I know they're not much chop at AFL level, but inside bash and crash mids who can get under the opponent's skin are great assets in junior and state level footy. He's a rancid kick of the footy though. I thought he rattled Kane Bevan a bit and put him off a bit, especially in the third when Peel had their comeback.

Donaghy doesn't take a step back. He would be a good bloke to have on your side. But yeah kicking could be better.

Do you mean MOkeefe? Also L Macrae missed the last game from an ankle injury(season ending?) he’s caught my attention by being in theirs best couple of the last month.
 
Bad by Peel, they should be promoting their talented kids. And exposing them to the highs levels possible.

And before people say this is scratch match, it’s the best 44 17 yo in the country playing against each other!
 
The football budget has been uploaded and indeed Koltyn Tholstrup is not listed for Subiaco while Mitch Edwards, Clay Hall and Ethan Logan are for Peel as predicted by contributors here.

Interestingly Lance Collard and Lachlan MacRae are at least listed for Subi. (perhaps pending a fitness test?)

Peel Thunder trio Mitch Edwards, Ethan Logan and Clay Hall will forgo the opportunity to play in an AFL grand final curtain-raiser at the MCG on Saturday to help their side win a WAFL colts preliminary final against Subiaco the following day.

The three 2023 draft prospects were among eight West Aussies invited to feature in the annual AFL Futures under-17s clash alongside Subiaco utility Koltyn Tholstrup, Claremont key-position player Daniel Curtin, Swan Districts winger Riley Hardeman, Perth ruck Coen Livingstone and East Fremantle speedster Koen Sanchez.

Thunder fell four points short of direct entry into the grand final against minor premiers West Perth on Saturday,


The club has praised the trio on a selfless decision after giving up a fantastic chance against the country’s best bottom-aged talents in front of AFL recruiters.

Tholstrup, who starred in the Lions’ 118-point semi-final over win South Fremantle with 16 disposals, four inside 50s and a goal, has opted to head east for the match.

“We wish the AFL wouldn’t put these kids in the situation of having to choose,” Subiaco colts coach Chayce Creedy said.

“There’s no wrong decision though, it’s an amazing chance for Koltyn to put his name up in lights.

“We hope we get the job done for him and he can play in a colts grand final as well.”

Exciting midfielder-forward Lance Collard is a chance to return from a collarbone injury sustained in round 20 and will be a handy replacement for Tholstrup if so.

Peel prevailed by four points when the two sides met in the first week of finals at New Choice Homes Park with Logan booting a game-high three goals after six the previous week.


East Fremantle’s home ground is again the venue for their next encounter, kicking off at 9am on Sunday and streamed live on Streamer.com.au.

Subiaco are aiming for their second colts flag in three seasons, while the Thunder haven’t won one since 2005.

Nice work mate. I apologise for suggesting that Peel held back these kids from going to Melbourne if indeed they made that decision themselves.

Well, WA is the last of the states with 18's football still going on. A great chance for people around Australia to watch on Sunday and the following week and I think we need to encourage as many as possible to do so.

Agreed Mate only just saw the article so good news cause you want to see the best players going at it, spewing not to see Koltyn playing but not a bad decision either way tough that they have this game on a players have to be in the position to decide.

It was a very good game but injuries/unavailability cost Subiaco. Koltyn Tholstrup, Dylan O'Dea, Lance Collard, Jacob Evitt, Tyrell Dewar and Lachlan MacRae all missing and that's some serious talent.

Peel had a much more even spread of contributors but Corey Tregenza-Cashell (PT) and Ky Franceschini (S) played amazing games for their respective clubs.

Some of the better players on the day I thought were - PT - Corey Tregenza-Cashell, Reece Torrent, Ethan Donaghy, Michael Sellwood, Joel Rush, Scott Tuia, Taj Wyburd, Clay Hall, Dominic Dravitzki

And for S - Ky Franceschini, Toby McDonald, Rory Murison, Jack Gouge, Riley Burton, Tyson Wright, Tyzreise Clark

Hopefully there are very few unavailable players for the Grand Final. I want to see a good game with the best talent in action. So far it would appear that Jed Adams (PT) and Jasper Scaife (WP) are the only certain outs. So both clubs are at evens for now.

The Jack Clarke Medal for the colts B&F will be counted and announced in a few hours - along with the Sandover of course
