Peel Colts were stacked with talent, when i saw the team lists i thought Peel would be favourites

they had
Trengenza-Cashell - who was the big key for WA in the champs and who was a highlight for WA
Carbone - who was a tough defender, average disposal, but great competitor
Broadbent - Giant strong ruck
M.Edwards - another young ruck/kpp who showed a lot of athletic qualities at the champs
Hall - who was great in the WA Gold V WA Black u17 game and i was high on for next year
Torrent - who looks really classy forward/mid for next year
Logan - who was invited to play on GF day, he wasnt as impressive, but to get that invite is a sign he is on the right track
Wearing - another i really liked from the u17 WA Black v WA Gold game
D.Roberts - who was close to the best player for WA in the u16's champs imo, he played 10 games as a 16 yr old too and was good

thats 9 quality players at the least, whereas i only had Gathercole, Michael, Bevan and Julian for West Perth, although i really liked Noah Farrow and how he played, theres potential development there.

I agree that Peel went in as favourites, given the older players Peel have it will be interesting to see how they go next year

I thought to myself should I change this after nearly two months but that would be cheating, seeing as there has been no football played in that time. So this is my final WA list before the draft for better or worse even though it's eight weeks old. I'm stuck with my choices and that includes some that didn't even nominate for the draft.

I keep seeing on Big Footy Elijah Hewett has some character flaws but for the life of me I can't detect any from his interviesw etc. Seems to be a bit of an "ïntense" young bloke but surely that's not a character flaw? Any clues or is it just a beat up?
I haven't heard anything mate. I think you're probably right about his intensity. As you say it's not a character flaw. I must admit that I don't speak to any of the players.

He doesn't have an afl team he supports, an obvious flaw in his character :D (joking)

I believe it’s not character issues, but behavioural issues that has been alluded to on the West Coast board.

Mate, I think the main issue, as Bangers pointed out, is to get his worst games up to 16-20 possies. Obviously that won't happen in a year or even two but if a club can develop him to be more consistent they have a gem. We know his big games can carry the whole team along with him. I can't help but like that.

I just hope he can play 10 of those instead of six per season and then the remainder be serviceable. I'd take that anyday.

So for the WA lads that missed out, do you think they might get a train on opportunity with Freo or WC? Hagan, Gilbey & Bevan appear to be a bit unlucky. Bit like Josh Browne last year, the Colts B&F seems to be a bit of a draft curse.

Not sure mate. I guess it's obvious that Gilbey has injury concerns and that put all clubs off. I heard an observer say Hagan is just too small and with no obvious stand out attributes. They ditched Bevan big time - I have no idea why. Maybe other observers here can explain why?

Disappointing for those lads and others like Cleaver, McDonald, Philip, Broadbent etc....not sure the logic behind some of those rookie recycled picks, especially WCE....I guess better the devil you know, then the one you don't.

All they can do is take heart from the likes of Baker for Richmond, who was overlooked initially, but persevered and eventually got drafted and been very successful at the elite level.

The thinking on the wce board is that winder and trew already had contracts for next yr .
Shame, like you pointed out there was plenty of talent available

I would say WA's premier prospects for the 2022 draft are Hagan(mid/def), Hewett(mid/fwd) & Broadbent(ruck) who all featured strongly in 2021
This is not a criticism of you at all but interesting that only 1 of these top 3 prospects ended up being drafted. On the other hand, 2 WA guys that were not mentioned at all in march ended up being first rounders. I guess it just shows how much things can change in a year.

It's a tough gig mate and like you you say things change over the course of a year.

Look at the errors I made just two months out from the draft.

Bevan, Cleaver and Hagan didn't get taken and Newick didn't even nominate.

Although this list isn't designed to be a draft predictor, they were my recommendations for clubs, observers and pundits to at least look at closely on stream or highlights.

Not too bad from you Futbolista.
I was following along marking off your list. A few new rookies in your top 20 also!
I think Draper and Scaife went to Frem under NGA and Baker went to WCE as an NGA also, that makes it 12/20.

I think Hagan was really unlucky and Gilbey probably deserves a chance.

From what I hear, Hagan missed out because he is viewed as being undersized and lacking in any standout athletic ability that would compensate for being small.

I used to see this a lot following college basketball and the NBA for more that three decades.

Really good and skilful college players who didn’t drafted, because they didn’t have the required height and athleticism by position, for the NBA.
