just finished the game while eating dinner, some of my take aways

Koltyn Tholstrup, Riley Hardeman and Clay Hall all dominated, the best 3 players on the ground imo, if i had to pick best player i would give it to Clay Hall, he did a mountain of work through the midfield, but Tholstrup and Hardeman were all class in this game, they were a level above those 2 and we saw that in the u18 champs this year.

Xavier Walsh played KPD, in the u16's champs he played more as a forward (kicked 4 goals in his 3 games taking a heap of marks outside 50m and setting up scoring opportunities) probably the best KPD on the day

Mitch Edwards played as ruck and roaming KPP, he is very tall and competes hard in the contest, we also saw him play well at the recent u18 champs

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
there were some other talents i noticed and would like to see more of

Noah Mills - played ruck/wing with good speed and agility, really interesting prospect, not sure on his height, but he may be the next type of player over 200cm and an athletic winger who can pinch hit in the ruck? if he develops well and puts on some weight he could be an exciting prospect imo

Bailey Harbour - is another interesting prospect, pressure forward with good work rate and a nice mark, his goal kicking may need a little work though?

Zane Wearing - intense half back flank, he's that tough hbf that runs and breaks lines

Riley Crane - was Clay Halls right hand man in the midfield, supporting Hall through the mid with good work rate and run

Louis Tangney - was one of few WA Gold players to impress, ran hard all game, even when it was unrewarded running, loved his effort

Joseph Harp - really quick hbf who did little wrong, another good WA Gold player, who showed some good qualities

Aiden O'Driscoll - quick hands out of defence, i like how he chooses the 1st option and didnt make mistakes.
Awesome work mate. That's pure dedication.

A possible WA 17's team if it was picked now. A bit more talented than the 2004 group but with less defensive and midfield height at this stage - but probably a lot more changes between now and mid 2023.

You're a Subi supporter right? Dylan O'Dea not bad for a humble back pocket player......I hope the state selectors pick the 2023 state squad on merit. Sometimes one can outsmart oneself by picking athletic speculative types who have done nothing whilst ignoring the guys who perform week in week out.

There is a place for speculating though but not at the expense of the best players.

Yeh mate Subi is mine from WA. I tend to have a team from WA/SA and VIC but appreciate up and coming talent from all teams. Dylan is a special player in defence he will not be beaten one on one (or very rarely ) due to his hardness at the contest. Plays taller then he is and is deceptively quick once the ball hits the ground. Unfortunately injured last two weeks hopefully back soon. There colts back six has improved last half of this season vs the start of season hence there ladder position has improved. They never have an issue scoring all season so its positive they have tightened up down back.

I’m hearing good things about Swan Dist. Otis Harvey for the 2024 draft. WA experts thoughts?

Harvey had a pretty solid 16’s carnival. His contested work is very good. Lacks speed, power, is already well developed and doesn’t possess the athletic traits required IMO. Kick and decision making also needs a lot of work. May need to be able to transition to another position as can’t see him competing as a mf. Roberts and Creighton would be better prospects at this stage.

I rate him. Like most he has things to work on. Strong bodied midfielder and he's got votes already, so his colts career is off to a good start.

The feeling though among many observers here is that a lot of the 16's state squad probably won't be high up on lists by 2024 and will make way for others who didn't make the squad.

In fact, it's already happening to a degree. In the team lists for this weekend's colts matches there are 20 players born in 2006 - Bienfait Kihusa (EP), Owen Cushing (EP), Malakai Champion (S), Tom MacGillivray (S), Jay Neindorf (S), Xavier Hickey (S), Harrison Creighton (SD), Anthony Hansen (SD), Joshua Rossen (SD), Tom Cathcart (SD), Declan Pauline (EF), Jaxan Bibaeff (EF), Marco Madaffari (EF), Deian Roberts (PT), Blake Russell (PT), Darcy Petersen (PT), Kody Katauskas (CL), Aidan Kavanagh (CL), Lucas Ravenhill (CL), Reuben Keane (CL).

9 of those did make the state squad. 11 didn't. While I realise that a few of the likely types have PSA commitments, it's still an interesting development.

But I think Harvey will be one that is still up and about two years from now.

PSA finished now. Final games were yesterday. It’s a shame we can’t see more of the Claremont 2006 DOB players as my understanding is they will only play non PSA players as 16 years old. I have watched quite a few of the PSA games this year. Looking at the non PSA 2006 DOB’s that are playing for Claremont I would have had Jaxon Douglas (Scotch) Hamish Davis (Hale) and Austin van der struyf (CCGS) all very well placed at getting a game this year if not for their PSA commitments.

Wow that's odd by the Monts.

You remember one of the carnival games we both said on here that van der struyf was WA's best that day. Looking forward to seeing him play colts.

I'm guessing Ravenhill be relocating to the city next year?

I guess Claremont always have so much talent to choose from they don’t need to worry.

I really like van der struyf. On the smaller side (179cm) which as we know can sometimes be a issue but has elite speed, power and a very good kick.

As you know the other one I really like is Davis. Long term injury I think prevented him from being ready for 16’s selection but he is one to watch. 189cm. Runs all day. Super athletic. Very good overhead. Competitive.

Not too sure about Ravenhill. Haven’t heard whether he will move up to Perth next year or not. Will depend on schooling I assume. He gets another crack at colts after year 12 anyway so maybe he will wait.

I was wondering if any PSA watchers here might have noticed some 2005 DOB's who are dominating school footy but not on this list?

I worry that I've missed a few PSA players.

I really like Nick Langsford from Scotch. Has had an injury this year so has played limited games, but is listed in the Claremont colts squad.

I also like Ben Parasaliti from Aquinas/ EF colts. I thought I recalled seeing his name earlier. Haven’t seen him play for a while though so he could be injured as he didn’t play in the last Aquinas game I watched.

Ok thanks mate. I'll add Langsford to the names to watch. I did have Parasiliti in the others list but I just haven't seen him since that State 17's game nor Austin Chapman from Subiaco who also played in the 17's match and then played two colts games picking up a handy 15 and 17 disposals but no games since.

In your PSA travels have you by chance noticed if Xavier Walsh and Jett O'Rourke are playing and doing ok? It's hard to place players with no colts matches to their name.

You are right. Haven’t heard about Chapman. Great player. Last time I saw him play he was very slightly built. Is that the still the case?

Haven’t seen Xavier Walsh play PSA but have seen Jett O’Rourke. Only watched him play 1 game and was no standout. I think I heard he is carrying an injury now. Can’t be sure. Cannot offer too much more than that sorry.
