thoughts on any standout performances in Colts this weekend?

Luke Kelly is a pure ball magnet. Always in the right places. Don’t mind his game at all!
To have him at 24 shows how strong the year is for WA......I know he will give effort, accumulate possessions quietly and not miss targets for WA although I don't feel as though he is an obvious "AFL style" player who will get the attention of the interstate scribes on this board. 177cm is cutting it fine these days without genuine speed or evasive skills.

That said, he is in the WA squad and players don't get selected if there isn't interest from at least one AFL club.

It will be interesting to see how others rate him. AFL potential or 150 game WAFL league star?

I agree with you there. He is quite small and isn’t the quickest. However, just watching him on the weekend he really impressed me.

I believe there are 5 AFL local scouts that are part of the state selection team.

I am not the best at describing what I see on the field but I could make a very strong case for Mitchell Keene (P) v Luke Kelly (SD), or Oscar Dees (S) v Ashton Ferreira (SF)...thus I don't see the harm in picking all four. I'm a fan of Jett Sibosado (CL) also. I don't see the harm in having a slightly bigger squad and getting a few extra names on the radar and in the program.

Still a damn good squad though. I'm really excited by it and hoping we can raise the 17 WA draftees (including mid-season) in 2022 up to and over 20 and I think that's more than achievable in 2023.

My personal opinion. I’m not a fan of having bottom agers in unless they are generation talent like a Harley Reid.
Especially most of this years cohort who have been very unlucky with missing state the past couple years.
Let state 18’s be for the boys who can be drafted that year. Again it’s only my opinion…
Bottom agers can have their turn next year. Same goes with over agers.

Zac Petersen is going under the radar for EF...compiling some good numbers. Otto continues to hold his own as an under height ruck, really working hard around the ground. Cocking and Vladich both proving to be reliable targets up front for EF...both not KP height, but presenting and providing a contest. EF once again batting above their weight in terms of height, tough ask this week v Subi on Sat though.

Anton Hanson from SF is putting in the effort as the number 1 ruck, would like to see what he can do in a key position. Ferriera looks to be playing with more confidence each game and taking the game on. Toby Verney wins a lot of HBG, and works hard in transition. No Pickett or Oakley last weekend.

How would you rate Clay Hall’s kicking? Tall hard running mids are worth their weight in gold. He really stands out to me as a player with a big point of difference compared to many other mids in this draft.

I have him ranked a bit below (7) what others from WA have him. That's only because I don't think he get's the most out of his possessions. That said, I thought his disposal was much better on the weekend than most matches last year.

Don't get me wrong, his kicking technique is pure but no point blasting a short half-volley attempting a 20 m hit up. I thought he mixed it up more smartly on Sunday. Kicking long to advantage in combination with some shorter chips.

He has the tools to be WA's number 1 for the year. Maybe I'm marking him hard because I'm expecting quite a bit.

I feel the championships are more important for him than some others. Incredibly talented.

Do you think Sam Gilbey has any chance of getting picked up in the mid season draft. Good to see him back playing. Very unlucky end to his season last year.

Interesting to see that the SANFL has created a state U20s team that will provide match practice for their state U18s but also to give players the opportunity to impress or stake their claim for AFL lists, would be a handy game to play in before the MSD, .....Do you think a good idea for the WAFL, they could play a one off against the SANFL and practice games with our U18s also ? Many other mainstream sports have older state rep teams - cricket, basketball and hockey to name a few.

Yeah good call.

I'm not 100% certain when the matches are but I know the 18's and 16's are playing a scratchy someone soon. (possibly against a stand alone colts side for the 16's and a reserves for the 18's)

Im pretty sure state 18’s are playing to 2 trial games. One against east Perth ressies in a couple weeks and against swan districts ressies not long after.

16s are playing Peel colts tomorrow.

...Seems Jed Hagan has missed selection for the SANFL U20s team after leaving WA and playing with Port Adelaide's SANFL league team.

Is Lance Collard draftable? Is he Flyin Ryan Like or more along the lines of a Charlie Cameron? Who would you compare him too?
