Just been watching abit of the first half between Fremantle and Hawthorn and it has suddenly dawned upon me.
Given the success of the West Coast Eagles since their inception, they have never been under scrutiny in their support for their club.....until now.
Will we see Subiaco Oval filled this year ??
Or have the supporters just confirmed my suspicions of a long hard year and won't bother turning up in droves anymore ??
It's amazing the amount of people actually not there for a change.
ps - I pose this question ; how many WCE supporters have actually defected to Fremantle this year knowing that WCE are prime candidates for the wooden spoon ?

The rest i agree with, but every club has bandwagon supporters.

But from what i've seen i don't think the eagles are as certainties for the wooden spoon as everyone thinks.

We got within 15 points of the Swans with 3 star players out and no interchange for the second half. So far against the Saints we're infront - i think we've finally worked out how to play footy, because it's been about 9 months since we've played properly.

Yep! Next week

About the bandwagoners, I think they're just not renewing, rather than defecting. Theres no need, as tickets will always be available. Those type of supporters aren't interested in being true members of their footy club, just as long as they can be seen there during the better times.

We drew ~33,000 last week, which I was actually pretty happy with.... its not too far below normal. It has to be remembered and this isn't an excuse) that a lot of coutry people are Eagles members, and can't come up, in or down for every game....

I know where you're coming from. I lived over there for a few years at a time when the WCE were an exceptional footy side. Then the Docker's came in, and a lot of people thought "what the heck, I'm Freo raised so I'm going to follow them ". Fair enough too I figured. Now with the forecast demise of the WCE, I was perhaps fishing for some WA responses as to where the crowd's have gone.It just seemed to me a few weeks ago that Carlton's support is getting very strong over there now so perhaps a lot of WCE supporters have gone back to supporting their original clubs pre 1987.
Is this happening ?

I think when you only get the opportunity to see your club live once or twice a season, you make every possible effort to a) be at the game, and b) make as much noise as you can... just ask Arch & Sandie

Carlton do seem to have a large WA supporter base already though, I was really surprised just how many of them were at our Subi game last year...

As to whether they are reverting back, I honestly don't know... I have no team to revert back to though! I'd doubt it though, maybe just more fans can get tickets now with memberships for both teams dropping?

WERE 2000 DOWN. We picked 300 up from Basils bigfooty show and expect over 1000 more after yesterdays win.

Well, I was gald that I was able to get a membership. I can only make it to about 4 games, one being next weeks derby, but I just wanted to be an Eagles member!

What is with that guy anyway - Basil Zemplis or whatever his name is. What exactly is all the hoohah about this bloke ?

So what club doesn't have bandwagon supporters? What happened to the 30,000+ St Kilda supporters that used to show up when they were on top of the ladder? Why couldn't Collingwood and the Bulldogs even draw 40,000 between them? Collingwood would get 40,000 by themselves if they were winning.

*EVERY SINGLE CLUB* in this country had bandwagon fans. The only supporters you can give credit to for not abandoning their club in large numbrs are the Crows.

Basil Zemplis used to play football for West Perth in the early 90s and I'm fairly sure he was even vice-captain there for a year or two. Unfortunately he was crippled with injuries and never was able to play on in the WAFL league. He now is a football media personality in Perth and alongside him running his own weekly TV show, he has a daily breakfast radio show with Adrian Barich and he also reads weekend sports news on 7.

I think his website is http://www.basilsfootyshow.com.au

You left out one thing, he is a big stupid dill.

I wouldnt call WCE supporters Bandwagoners.
I would call them fickle with unrealistic expectations and quick to dessert there team. But just as quick to come back to it again.

In fact that is a strong part of Eagles supporters in general. They stick with their club thru thick and thin. After last seasons appalling performances to see that we have now got even more members than ever shows 'true grit'.

CARN THE EAGLES

ps Also partly true about Freo supporters. They stick with their club through thin and thin
