Those reports are based on pictures of the pitch taken nearly a week out from the test, you do understand they take a fair bit of grass off leading up to the first day?

I do agree though the reports have been ridiculous but not for the reason you're suggesting.

i was also hearing reports today that there was still a large level of grass coverage on the pitch still today.

Do you know how much grass he usually leaves on his pitches 72 hours out from a test?

I don't and i doubt anybody here does so it's kinda hard to put it in to any context isn't it?

For all we know it's the same level of grass that was on the WACA pitch last year at the same stage.

It's reportedly been very hot and windy there, so they need to leave the grass on the pitch 'till closer to the game, to stop it from getting too dry and cracking early, or whatever. They know what they're doing. India are apparently stressing though, so they may be beaten before a ball is bowled.

It's had a bit of a shave now and and with the warm weather too drying out the pitch more the curator said it will look and play exactly the same as last year. Listened to an interview with the curator not long ago.

Viewed Pitch this morning, looks outstanding. Will be quick and bouncy and will move a bit first day.

Good players will score runs day 2, 3 and 4.

The question will again come up however are the modern players good enough to handle the moving ball?

Win the toss and bowl first I think is pretty logical after looking at the pitch, less than 24 hours to go and still a heavy grass cover, it will be shaved but there will be green grass on this pitch I would suggest.

Awesome, love watching good fast bowling and seeing these flat track bullies ducking and diving for cover.

Cheers, gws - was waiting for an update myself. Can't stand flat pitches either, and frankly I can't understand why they still get prepared. For weak home teams like SL?

GWS do you work down at the WACA or the media?

I have been advised by a very reliable source that Indians have requested the WACA be closed off to anyone apart from the media for security reasons.

This means the WACA tours and museum have been shut until after the test which has annoyed a lot of people as it is there busiest time of the year.

India can only prepare two pitches, dustbowls and roads, partially due to their climate.

sounds like India will send us in if they win the toss
Be a brave man to Bat first tomorrow I think, but having said that sometimes the WACA plays pretty straight when it looks as though it should do plenty.

Anyway looking forward to it and personally I hope we bowl first.

I will be down in the members from lunchtime tomorrow so hopefully there is not too much damage early.
I remember in 2000 when Australia played the West Indies, I decided that rather than booking a whole day off, I would just finish at 12 and head down. Couldn't miss too much in the first session could I ?

McGrath took a hat trick and the Windies were 5 for 65 at lunchtime when I arrived.

I am planning to be in my seat at 10 20 tomorrow morning :thumbsu:
