that's why they leave so much grass on the wicket for as long as possible, so it can thatch underneath and hold it together on Day 4/5

Could well be that the story is a lie but this itself is a little exercise in human nature. we believe what we want to be true. in India you believe the Times and take it as gospel, In Australia we believe some guy called Mick from Perth who tweeted the above and take it is gospel and we all believe him because we want to.

Micks story is bull. The WACA have said that it was the test pitch.
If you need 4 fast bowlers to take 20 wickets on that pitch then you've got problems
I'd be disappointed if we didn't go in with 4 pacemen. That said, Lyon should be back for the 4th Test. Horses for courses.dear god youre still going in to bat for Lyon. Give up on it already. You surely are related to him.
Its a green fast bowlers wicket. Get over it![]()
Yeah this. What a ****ing joke it is. I hope there are serious repercussions for such stupidity and that whatever bullshit tradition there is at the WACA is ended now and forever.Whether it was the test wicket - or the centre square - I don't give a shit
Just stay off the ****ing whole area. How hard is it?
Also - celebrate after the test is over, not before it's begun.
It's not drama, it's not something the Indian media have made up. We have ****ed up and someone needs to be held accountable and dealt with.i actually lol'd at the story
india love creating drama don't they
according to that aticle they usually do it under the scoreboard at the WACA...
"Usually do it ..." This "tradition" needs to be put to bed immediately. STAY OFF THE PITCH, STAY OFF THE GROUND. This isn't ****ing Summerdayze. The WACA have said its a tradition that the Staff go out and toast the wickets... no probs BUT STAY OF it and FFS dont stand on it with beer in hand
It's an unmitigated joke.Have to agree
From the video I saw - that looks like a brand new wicket, with clear line markings. Not one that is over a week old.
Another tell-tale is the hessian that has been pulled back. You don't put that over the whole centre wicket.
The WACA have said its a tradition that the Staff go out and toast the wickets... no probs BUT STAY OF it and FFS dont stand on it with beer in hand,
What if a beer was dropped and entire contents spilt on a good length? That could **** up the perfect test wicket.
Do they go ON THE PITCH at the Gabba?better cancel the tradition at the Gabba too then.
what a storm in a teacup.

What harm would a bit of beer do to a cricket pitch>?

The same harm that a bit of rain would cause - and the reason they protect the pitch from liquid with covers.
Someone drops a beer on the pitch and half a bottle spills on a good length - all of a sudden the hard clay underneath softens a little and from day one we have a pitch that is two paced.
Ball one Zaheer khan comes in and the ball hits the soft spot, Cowan leaves it expecting to fly way over the top of off peg - and it keeps low and takes his pole....
Not sure if serious?
I really can't tell if everyone is being serious here and is genuinely outraged or if the urine is being extracted.
They're drinking? ON THE PITCH!?? Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!?
I highly doubt 500ml of Beer would do that.
notsureifsrs.jpg500ml is two thirds of perth's rainfall each year.
I reckon that sort of rain falling on a pitch might have an effect, don't you?
Even if we expect the spread of that beer to only put 25ml over any square cm - that's still an inch of rain
mick has shafted me for the last time![]()
