So if hardly anyone is going to the WACA, and the fact it is such a bog-standard venue, then why should big International matches be played there any more?

The only "Ashes standard" venues are Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane. However Perth, Hobart & Canberra still deserve lower level tests against teams like Sri Lanka, the West Indies & Pakistan along with regular ODIs.

Because there are 5 Ashes test matches and the Perth test is the best for TV rights.

Well if facilities don't improve, I don't think the favourable time zone will be enough to retain an Ashes test should the new WA Stadium not be ready before the next Australian Ashes.

Hobart. Going through a re-development now to bring the capacity to 20,000. Sure their crowds aren't great either, but they don't get to hold "the big tests", only tests against teams no-one really wants to see, hosting an Ashes test would easily see people flock to the venue

Never going to happen.
No difference in crowds and significantly less TV money.

The 3rd session in Perth on Monday night recorded 1.6 million viewers on Nine nationally. Those are numbers TV executives dream of. When Nine was negotiating the TV rights they were heavily pushing for Perth to replace Brisbane as the first test of the summer so it will air during the ratings period. That's how much they value the Perth test match. Don't underestimate how much influence they have on cricket scheduling. They will single handedly ensure Perth continues to get Test matches, especially an Ashes.

Well, I've got news for you. If the WACA doesn't improve soon, there won't be any choice in the matter. Leniency can only run so far

So that's why the WACA is scheduled for a test every year (bar next year) until 2020?
Including our next home Ashes series?

They won't be able to should it no longer met requirements by a large margin (it already doesn't met requirements but as I said leniency can only be applied so far) .

Future for the WACA is bleak.

The lack of facilities is massively overstated.

Of course there are toilet queues when everyone goes to have a leak during tea.

What do you actually know about the WACA facilities anyway?

Wait, what?

There was a pizza shop called Pink Pepper in Royal St. Don the owner used to park his van up on on the corner of East Parade and Kensington Street and for a while also had a guy dressed in a rabbit suit with a sign there as well. At some point the cops told him to move on but he ignored them and kept doing his thing there. The cops got annoyed and handcuffed him and marched him down Royal St to Pink Pepper to tell Don off.

Hahah thats quality. Yeh i know the place, i work in east perth, thought he made some good pizza. I thought this might have been him being arrested for hiring illegal workers.

The WACA can comfortable fit the number of people who turn up to the Gabba to watch a test match that's not against England. Since hardly anyone goes there may as well get rid of that too.

What would someone from Perth know about a decent sporting stadium?

So how come the Indians aren't playing a test there?

Because there are only four tests next year and Perth is the 5th in line ground in Australia.

In every other summer when we have 5 or 6 tests, Perth will get a test match. This includes Ashes series.

I was just making a counter point to holybishop who said the ratings meant Perth would always get a test. The Indians rate as high as the Poms I would think. Sure the Kiwi's and Bangas would not rate, but the rest of the test playing nations would.

Just leave it. The pitches vary from city to city and that is what makes the challenge for teams to come here and win.

I do laugh though and you are correct, How you sum up the WACA is Perth city in general :)
