Well the alignment model's only been in place a few years and I can't remember an aligned side being so chock-full of AFL-listed players in that time as Peel's has been throughout this year's finals.

Even when East Perth made the grand final in 2014 there were only 11 WCE-listed players in the side, and of them only Butler played more than half the season at AFL level.
Section of Peel players were a lot more motivated this year. They were not hiding the fact at the Sandover or after the game yesterday that a large chunk of the 17 were winning the premiership at any cost to stick it up Ross Lyon.

Probably more motivated to try continue their careers than spuds like Colledge and Lucas too.

No as ziad sugested it was pure hate. Most knew they were getting up there in age and in their last year but they just wanted to prove a point for themselves and others who couldn't get on the ground (ie an ex assistant coach).

By my count they had 14 players who appeared at AFL level and 7 of them played 6 games or less.

#factchecking
It does say something about the way the game was covered though. If you saw the paper ever day last week you would think the team was full of first 22 players.

While I'm here I might as well go over yesterday game.
Matthew Allen
Raw tall forward who has shown glimpes in patches this year and his first half yesterday was another example. Took strong marks and kicked straight from 50m and another from a pocket but hardly seen after half time. Has the ability to be good leading tall forward who kicks straight from distance but needs to stay in the game for 4 quarters. Hopefully he comes back in good condition and gets a huge injury pre season in.

Jordan Snadden
Was playing reserves finals for a contract but was badly hobble with a hip injury. Should have had the decision made and let him mend, deserved another year. Played like someone scared of making mistakes, East Perth reserves have been a fast ball movement team but he slowed down the ball when he got it making sure he didn't turn it over.

Asher Samelko
Hope we are looking at this kid for a rookie spot. A cheaper Rory Lobb. Mature age player (22yo) from Margaret River playing his first year in the WAFL system. Can play key back/forward and in the ruck. 195cm tall but has a massive leap.....MASSIVE LEAP. Very raw but a home run rookie pick if he comes good. Would have played seniors for East Perth if not for the alignment but was stuck behind Lamb and McInnes even though he was better than them.

Tarir Bayok
Cat B chance. Fumbles too much for me, especially below the knees. Has the pace that could turn him into one of those high pressure small forwards. If we had other options for that position I would pass even though he is a free hit but we don't have anyone on the list that can play there so worth a shot.

dockers have nailed the last two drafts.
Weller, blakley, tucker, yarran, landon and balic all look good.

SO far only duggan, nelson and cole and partington have looked good for us and none of them have dominated WAFL yet. Talent wise Duggan probably has the freo blokes covered but theres still question mark regarding him reaching his true potential? Love Nelson and that due to his grit and the way he goes about it but i just can't see him anything more than a role player.
Pity they already had midfielders and really needed kpp but drafted mids anyway

AFL reserve would be a nice. Maybe have zone where you get the 5 vic, 2 WA and 2 SA clubs in one zone play each other and then you have the other with 5 Vic Clubs and 2 QLD and 2NSW clubs. It minimises travel. Could fill it with amautuer/country and a couple of state league players.
Would prefer if both Perth teams could just use WAFL teams as feeder clubs so both Wa teams could field the strongest possible teams . I think they are aligned to certain zoned WAFL teams so use them as feeder clubs .

Samelko sounds interesting. I believe we have been missing a high leaper for awhile (not counting Nik Nat) as Darling and Lecca are not that type. A high leaping small like Son Son would be ideal ... lim Ryan maybe, but Samelko as a rookie sounds interesting.

How about Freo and WC both field their own teams in the WAFL but can't participate in the finals and play against each other as a precursor to the WAFL GF for a second tier cup.
Or they field their own team but restrict the quality of the top up players and the finals qualifications for AFL listed players so they still play for premiership points but are equally strong. Don't set the restrictions in the first year but review and adjust them at seasons end until the best model is found.

Kind of like they do in SA. Kind of like most WAFL club officials have been asking for. Kind of like the two AFL clubs have been asking for. Just need leadership to look past the usual complainers and make decisions.

He is contracted for next year though?

I was seriously impressed with this Conner Blakely kid, what I saw yesterday was a kid who insanely throws himself at the ball and has very good extracting skills and just never says die. Why can't we seem to get these types from our own state ? probably because we too busy scouting all the private schools and over looking grass roots.

Gets back to club management. (Call it leadership).
An example is the members survey. One question rating on field performance. Pages on corporate responsibility and causes the club supports.
I am a big fan of corporate social responsibility - but prioritise objectives thanks.

Blakely was taken two spots after Lamb which the club new was a risk. I like Blakely, disposal a little messy but is a good player.

By my reckoning Yarran is the only bona fide Freo best 22 player who played today.

A few others like Collins, Apeness and Blakely probably on the cusp.

Saying 15 just makes you look a bit daft.

Did I hurt your freo feelings ?

Probably anyone besides a [edit] would realize I was just having a go

the freo board is that way. You can have your little cry there

Snadden was told his contact was extended before he was playing reserves finals. Same time as Bennell and the rest were told not required. Eagles are reasonably happy with him they want him to run harder.

He needs to go for the ball more himself and does tend to get to close to team mates kicking perhaps leading before team mates are ready. Should be down The line more As has good hands and a very big leap. Think he had more in the First half than what wafl stats gave him but he was still very poor early. Came out in the third and did very well something he often does. Mentally needs to work out what ever works for him in the second half and do that at the the beginning of a game. Few extra kilos will do him some good as well

He's 25, not 35, so still has plenty of time left, has size, pace, can find the footy and kicks goals. He was averaging 20+ possessions and a goal while being shifted from half forward to the middle and back again, and the week we elevated Tunners, Adamson had just had a 33 possession and 1 goal game at EP. Meanwhile our so called stars and big recruits were struggling to find the footy at any level, yet Adamson was not even given a game. It makes no sense and I'm not the only one who thinks like that.

Plenty of time for what?! How many guys come into the AFL game at 25 and make a career of it?? I'd say it's pretty close to none. Might seem ruthless, but that's the game we're in. There are guys out there who have have had better WAFL seasons than Adamson at younger ages (Schliotte? Nelson?) that never got any reward for it. There are approximately 800 players in the country lucky enough to be on an AFL list, it's competitive.

I'm more schocked by the Waterman decision, but again, 2 seasons, no return.
