Lamb - I know I am critical of Lamb at times that may border on nitpicking but this guy frustrates me. He has the talent but not necessarily the application - he almost seems to choose when to try so he will have good patches then go completely missing. Does make some baffling decisions with his disposal. We rolled the dice with Lamb at the draft based on his talent but right now I think we've crapped out. Hope I'm wrong
Sponsors hat off, I am really really annoyed that we took Lamb over Blakely, not because Lamb is taking a while to develop, but mostly because we needed a strong contested midfielder MUCH more than we needed another tall.

I'm annoyed we took him instead of Mitch McGovern

I assumed they saw him as a midfielder when they drafted him with his elite running and all.I was hoping for blakely too.

only what they told name. no names thanks.

The bigger point is how can a team with a significant portion of AFL listed players not be at least competitive against a WAFL team, if not dominate.
Is it because drafted players are too young, they are drafted poorly, WAFL players with experience should be looked at far more closely at draft time or the club is abysmal at development/reserves integration.

I see a bit of the Swans reserves and it is a development team run by the swans. Good old boys in Perth will not let the future happen perhaps.
No names?? I was only going to say I presume you are referring to the establishment where they had a fight with West Perth.

Blokes having a drink at WAFL level is not unusual, I know most players do. They've still got to have a bit of fun.

Big bodies against inexperienced players make a massive difference, don't underestimate that.

We didn't take Blakely though because we took Duggan earlier and Sheed the previous year. We took a risk on Lamb as someone with X Factor because we had a few mids already with recent picks.

We also picked up waterman pre glandular fever so the decision to look past Blakely wasn't a terrible one.

Given what we know about Gov and his propensity to bloom late the decision to not get Gov lite is a stinker

Blakely would still be in the WAFL if not for Freo's injury crisis also.
He'd be getting games for us, and lots of other sides IMO.

I realise they took a risk, which is fine, but considering they took three more mids/flankers after Lamb suggests that the reason we didn't take Blakely was not necessarily because we'd already taken enough of his type.

Considering our glaring deficiency was our midfield depth, especially inside mids, I think it was a bit negligent to pass on Blakely.

Sheed and Duggan will be better than Blakely, the first 2 can actually kick.
Blakley has some glaring flaws in his game in his kicking accuracy and trajectory . His up and under pokey kicks are crap .

We should be trying to get talent the likes of the cox , judd , Kerr , cousins as a starting on ballers we had

2018 >
Natanui , shuey , sheed , duggan !

Nic and Dom the grunt , shuey and dug the class

Blakley is poor mans version of the starting on baller we need .

On lamb I always thought he was a project player and you won't see the more complete player until 24-25 years old .
He won't stick around that long

Who would he be getting games ahead of for us? He'd be behind Duggan and Hutchings and they are our last genuine mids picked as far as I can tell.
Every chance he'd be getting games ahead of Hutchings IMO. Impossible to tell how the coaches would treat him - i.e. whether they'd want mature safe depth in the side, or getting games into a future midfielder.

We also might not have traded for Redden if we had Blakely in the squad, given they're similar types. So again, he might have replaced Redden in today's 22.

It's all hypothetical of course. But seems strange that people on here seem to think we have our midfield sorted and don't need to draft anymore...

To be fair, we had already taken Waterman that year, so our list managers probably thought we had just bought in a "strong, contested midfielder".

This was probably a big reason as to why we opted for Lamb as opposed to Blakely - if Waterman hadn't been guaranteed to us via F/S, Blakely would probably be at the club right now. Better yet, if Muddy hadn't been struck down by a pretty nasty fever, the Mudman would probably be pushing for selection.

Also, i can't believe the club didn't take McGovern mk 2, what were they thinking?

Will Waterman play again ? How long does the symptoms of Glandular fever last ?
He seems to have some serious case of it. I wouldnt have expected this long. But even before the season began the eagles had written it off for him. Such a shame the kid is a serious footballers footballer, dont know if he could have been class at afl level but he would have dominated the wafl

It can vary depending on the case. It wiped out a year for Shuey in the early part of his career but he was able to make a full recovery. Going back a few years Daniel McConnell also got glandular fever when playing with us and was never the same player after.

It needs to be managed carefully otherwise it can lead to chronic fatigue syndrome.

I heard it had a permanent neurological effect on Shuey which is why he can't control his tongue while he's running.

True story

My brother had a severe case of glandular fever when he was younger - the worst aftermath was the lack of energy levels - to this day he still suffers a lot - gets tired very easily. Don't know of course as to whether this is all related to him having had GF.
