No but it seems people are undervaluing how important it is for a group of individuals to play together in a team for an extended period. Prolong and sustained success demands this as a precondition.

I agree re Brophy. It staggers me that he gets a game at all. As for Giles, "he is the worst footballer I have ever seen" to quote one of the older members yesterday. He is soft, gets pushed off the ball too easily, cannot take a mark, cannot bend to pick up the ground balls and rarely hits a target ( when he actually gets the ball!)
Sheed looked a long way off and was struggling to run. He should have played reserves as he contributed next to nothing.

I understand why they got a ready made player for depth, but jeez I was dissapointed when I heard we gave him 3 years. Hopefully he never plays a game for Eagles, don't rate.

It's been a long time since we had dominant performances in the WAFL - not sure what's going on there.

Was looking at Brad Crouch's current performances for SC reasons, and found this - http://www.afc.com.au/news/2016-03-12/crouch-stars-in-sanfl

40 touches in first match in 8 months, plus 37 touches to a second year player in Wigg.

Stats aren't everything, but it does seem weird that our guys tend to under perform in the WAFL

I think if we're being honest, a lot of the Eagles listed players who played yesterday are quite crap. Our top 30 on our list is pretty good, up there with any team imo. But boy oh boy do we have some duds in the backend.

Good afl players should dominate at this level imo. We saw it straight away with Duggan impacting and when darling played and kicked a bag in his first game back.

Colledge, Giles, Lucas, Brophy, McInnes, mcginnity are all average WAFL players at best and maybe aside from McInnes really shouldn't be on an afl list. Karpany too could be in this group tho I don't really want to admit that

Hutch, sheed and redden were all on limited minutes (not sure about hutch) and still building fitness, I think in normal circumstances someone like redden would get 30-40 touches.


Barass and lamb playing tall and these types don't necessarily dominate at state level straight away as they are playing against bigger bodies. But anyway Barass seems to be holding his own and lamb showed last year when was on at WAFL level he can dominate, reckon he could have a lot of good games at this level this year, along with a bunch of quiet ones and I'm ok with that.

as for parto and Cole from what I can tell Cole looked at home straight away at this level and genuinely looks afl level. Parto needs to put on muscle but it is encouraging that he is still contributing with a decent amount of touches. Just needs time.

dude mcinniss is quality and would be in the best 22 of a few afl clubs. Agree about the others. Tho i think our midfield depth is quite young or crap. Its an area we need to improve. hopefully the likes of parto, cole and waterman in the next few years push for best 22 spots.

McInnes is ok, but nothing special imo. I can't ever seeing him be in our 22 outside of injury or if he improves his ruck work. After 70 games he is going at about a goal a game. And maybe had one bag or two bags.

I don't mind him, and as per previous post id keep him on the list for structural cover in periods of injury, but he has only been average in WAFL up to this point in his career.

Not sure about the best 22 at other clubs. He lacks hurt factor in the forward 50 I think.

I wouldn't worry. I think people think that wafl level is that bad that it isn't tough. Whilst it may not be as skilful as afl, still full of tough players who can at least tackle.

There are plenty of good leaders at EP. The fact you can't point out Wulff or Anderson at the very least is absurd.

The EP team had an average age of 23.8 and median of 24. It also had an average games played (senior football) of 79.1 and median of 72.5.
The C team had an average age of 23.7 and median of 24. It also had an average games played (senior football) of 55.4 and median of 53.

The "they're all kids" excuse is rubbish. As I said, C had 9 players with under 25 games, EP had 6. C had 2 players make their debut, EP had 2.

The bulk of the EP side DO train together and those that don't are experienced enough to fit in and are trained by a WC coach under the same system.

That could be said of EVERY team. WAFL has a high turnover and most sides look significantly different - a fact I highlighted by the comparison with Claremont.

Players on limited minutes missing 1 or even 2 full quarters. Players who are just simply not WAFL league players getting games because they are on AFL lists. Players getting game time in postions because they need practice in even if they are not the best in that position.

The whole panic about AFL teams getting their own teams in the WAFL and dominating was over done. WAFL supporters are easily stirred up into angry mobs and there have been WAFL leaders (well actually just one) who live off it. The proposed teams had restrictions that the East Perth teams of the early 2000's didn't have and they would never have been competitive.

Back onto the topic, for those who are interested Rowan Powell has a suspected broken leg from the reserves on Saturday. Will be out for a while.

Whatever the reasons behind it, Claremont looked a far more cohesive unit and were better structured than East Perth who looked horribly disjointed

Now that might be because one side spent a couple of months training together as a group whilst the other had 60% of its side training completely separately from the other 40%.

which is the exact reason the games played should not be played for premiership points, just a training hit out thats all.

Giles is a joke. Shouldn't even be on a rookie list let alone a 3 year deal. What were they thinking?

He was woeful in the NAB cup too, woeful and couldn't get a game at Essendon, where they were a rabble, and was woeful in his latter years at GWS.

What is the point of recruiting back up, if they are useless with a low ceiling. May as well have recruited someone like Jones from the ressies on the rookie list, at least there might be a scope for improvement.

Woeful in the nab cup? He was listed as our best in the one game he played, albeit he had basically no competition for that dubious honour.

Three years is overs but was probably necessary to entice a contracted player to shift states for the third time in his career.

His performance on the weekend was putrid to be honest, but I rated him at GWS and as someone already identified he seems to play better at the higher level for some reason.

He's on the main list not the rookie list. He is experienced back up for a team that thinks it has a serious shot at the flag. An inexperienced player like Cameron may be better in the long run for a rebuilding team but could be a liability if someone had to come in and play a role for a game or a few games.
