Checked the stats, I assume people will stop asking for reserves players to be given a game. Adamson is the only one with an excuse - he is supposed to be a development project. Perhaps he should be rewarded just as a message to the others.

Ugly display by the Royals, very few of our guys could hold their heads high after that performance. Barrass is definitely one, holding Shepheard to just two goals was a great effort. Adamson did some nice things. Giles worked hard but should have had more than 1 goal 4. Brown was OK in his first game back. Lucas had his standard game.

Now, the airing of the grievances.

Colledge and Bennell were completely non-existant, apart from Bennell giving away a 50 in the last quarter. Partington and Snadden were similarly invisible but they've at least got youth and inexperience as an excuse. As Keys said, Ellis made some uncharacteristic errors. Lamb worked a bit harder than I've seen in the past but made some stupid decisions. McInnes didn't do a whole lot. Brophy was alright. Allen kicked East Perths best goal of the day (not that much of a challenge, but it was a good effort) in the last term but was barely sighted apart from that.

Saw most of the second half of the ressies. Mutimer looked very good, he'll be in line for promotion. Tunbridge was reasonable playing as a forward. Karpany seemed to be completely devoid of confidence, he was giving away plenty of shots on goal that a player of his ability should really be taking.
You would think Bennell would be really putting in being a fringe player. He won't get promoted if he keeps playing meh.

they asa group were belted by a bunch of amateurs who I can assure you spend too much time in the pub -subi are banned from one establishment
they are supposed to be professional footballers
Do you know how much Schofield pushes them on the track? They are not just a bunch of amateurs and it is a pretty silly statement to make about a team that has dominated the competition for two and a half years.

Was not only a disgraceful effort on the field it was just as bad off the field. Not telling Jaymie Graham which players are available less than half an hour before the start of the game is degrading to him and his assistants. Have heard one player was taken out very late but he chose to play as a sign of support for Graham and East Perth.

Some players will have to be dropped to the reserves. Some have been promoted too early before they were ready after just a good game or two instead of consistant form. Others are more senior players with no work rate to get better. Should be 4 or 5 looked at but if Graham suggests that to the heirachy next week he may not know who is available until 10 minutes before the game starts.

East Perth are never going to do well with the alignment. The team is chopped and changed every week. Any player that plays reasonable in the middle is removed. Apart from our key position players they are left with our dregs plus a couple of first year players

How do we make it work better? It seems that consistency in team selection is a problem, but with our current injury list I wouldve thought the positions people were playing wouldnt be an issue. Telling players and coaches 30 mins before a game who's playing is untidy - totally agree.

Correct. If an AFL listed player was a good patch of form he is promoted to the Eagles team and replaced with someone out of form. The only regular players in the team are developing players who go missing for parts of the game.

Regular season success for alignment teams comes from the local players. East Perth have suffered too many injuries to these players and will struggle for the rest of the year. They will not make the finals and if you thought this week was horrible then next weeks derby will give you nightmares.

Having been at the game and not just relying on looking at the stats (or seeing the opposition get on the piss around town), Barrass continues to put his hand up for selection.

Would you say Barrass is a similar player to McGovern with a sexier rig ? I've watched him play for west coast and highlights online so I have limited knowledge.

McGovern is more of a pure footballer and gets by a lot on his natural instinct imo. I don't think Barass reads the play as well as Gov does (few do) but he's a better spoiler whilst still being able to take a decent grab. Barass also has a better leap.

Don't think he'll end up as good but Barass is a bit like Ash McIntosh - maybe not as quick as Ash was

I'd say he's more like MacKenzie from a few years ago, but with a better kick.

For our own stand alone team and break off from East Perth.

Best solution IMO

Based on what I've seen this year :

Barass is an AFL quality player without question. Would be playing AFL for many other clubs but is stuck behind Emac, Schoey and Gov and I doubt Simmo would have any concerns bringing him in should one of those three be unavailable

Lamb - I know I am critical of Lamb at times that may border on nitpicking but this guy frustrates me. He has the talent but not necessarily the application - he almost seems to choose when to try so he will have good patches then go completely missing. Does make some baffling decisions with his disposal. We rolled the dice with Lamb at the draft based on his talent but right now I think we've crapped out. Hope I'm wrong

McInness - struggles to find a true role. Bit of a forward, bit of a ruckman but isn't really impacting games. I'd like to see just him play as a pure forward - make him the spearhead and leave the ruckwork to Giles and Johnson

Adamson - For a player who spent several years out of football he's coming along nicely. Works hard and his disposal/decision making continues to improve and he's a strong body. Doubt we'll see him in eagles colours this season but is worth persevering with.

Brophy - Nice experiment and at this stage he's an ok WAFL player. His dash off half back at times is really good but he can get caught out of position defensively especially on days like yesterday when the ball is coming in quickly (and cleanly)

Partington - had a bad game yesterday but he's coming on pretty well. Main thing holding him back is his lack of size/strength but that'll come with another preseason or two under his belt. Generally knows how to find the ball and his hands in traffic are good. Needs to be shown patience but in time I think he'll make it

McGinnity and Lucas - solid WAFL players without the skillset to be consistent AFL players. Doubt either of these two will be on or list in 2017

Colledge - He's just too slow. Won't make it and won't be on our list next year

Bennell - after an encouraging preseason playing as a small forward Bennell just continues to regress. Gets pushed off the ball too easily and doesn't impact games anywhere near enough for a player of his experience. Another that will be lucky to stay on our list next year

Giles - I hope he enjoys playing at East Perth because the only way he'll get a game for the eagles is if both Lycett and Naitanui are injured. Does have an uncanny knack to find a goal or two per game which is a nice trick to have but he's at the right level of football for his abilty.

Allen and Snadden - young guys finding their way and tbh probably need time in the ressies to develop their game. I've seen more of Allen than Snadden and there's something there to work with both of them. Way too early to know if they'll make it though

Karpany - I don't watch the ressies so haven't seen his last few games bet he was shit before he was dropped from the league side. No idea what the club sees in him. Pay out his contract and send him on his way

Tunbridge - Haven't seen him play as he's still working his way back from injury through the ressies. I'll be very surprised if he gets another year

Mutimer - like tunners he's working through the ressies after missing the start of the season due to injury. Unlike tunners he's in his 1st year so deserves to have judgement reserved until he gets a decent crack at it

Brown - was his first game for the season yesterday and he looked rusty. Will be interesting to see how he goes as the season wears on because right now he'd be behind Barass in the pecking order

Ellis - pretty much ready to go back into AFL if a spot opens up notwithstanding a couple of brain farts yesterday (I suspect this is the player Barney44 was referring to that played in support of Graham)

For the most part the guys running out for East Perth are a collection of guys who are either experienced but lack the ability to be regular AFL players (Mcginnity, Lucas, Bennell, Giles and arguably McInness), aren't going to make it (Colledge, Tunbridge and Karpany) or still need time to develop further as they're young or experiments (Lamb, Partington, Allen, Snadden, Mutimer, Brophy and Adamson) with Brown, Ellis and Barass the only players I'd have confidence in if they were promoted to the seniors. (Lamb has the ability to be included with the last 3)

Gaff, Yeo, Sheed and Nelson the only guys not playing this weekend due to injury. All are obviously AFL level.

And waterman but even the club have forgotten about him

only what they told name. no names thanks.

The bigger point is how can a team with a significant portion of AFL listed players not be at least competitive against a WAFL team, if not dominate.
Is it because drafted players are too young, they are drafted poorly, WAFL players with experience should be looked at far more closely at draft time or the club is abysmal at development/reserves integration.

I see a bit of the Swans reserves and it is a development team run by the swans. Good old boys in Perth will not let the future happen perhaps.
