Ever wondered if the fact that our soft as **** players who are cruising around in the ones, not performing and not getting dropped is affecting our WAFL players? It must be frustrating busting a gut each week (now not everyone is doing that i agree), and then not getting selected coz our coach and MC keep playing favourites for guys that are out of form and being played solely on reputation or potential.

What a shit trade for us last year. Redden - underperforming and has no impact in big games, Jetta - we have too many of his type that aren't willing to go hard and are soft outside runners, Giles - Jesus christ what the hell is going on in the recruiting department?

We don't have any players of Jetta's type, hence why we gave up a valuable commodity (Sinclair) for him. To date he hasn't performed.

We got Giles for just about nothing (a five pick downgrade in the 60s) as insurance after we traded away Sinclair. With Lycett's massively improved form, he's performing the role Sinclair would be performing, ie toiling away in the wafl and biding his time

Redden's a bit more difficult to justify. We didn't need him badly enough to give up a late first rounder.

I'm very much looking forward to Redden having a proper pre-season and sticking it up everyone who has ripped on him so far this year.

Our window is (was ) open. We need more help inside the contest for Priddis and Redden was available. I'm not sure that pick 17 would have netted us a ready to go inside player. Given his pre-season surgery his numbers aren't horrible. Not what we hoped for but not horrible. Hutch wouldn't be displacing him from B22 given what we have seen and Hutch is leagues ahead of the rest of our mature aged midfield depth.

Redden is in our top 5 for average clearances with 3.7pg. He is also top 5 for contested possessions and tackles. He's playing a role and going OK I reckon. When he is fitter and can add more spread and run to his contributions it will of course be a bonus. At this stage no one is forcing him out least of all an 18-19 year old from the draft.

Really? Thanks Biggie. Was wondering why we choose Redden over Coniglio. Especially given our year last year, If we cannot even convince Coniglio, a WCE supporter as a kid, to come us then it would be almost impossible for us to get a gun midfielder via trading like everybody wants.

There are plenty of opportunities available in the league team. There is a desperate need for -

• a half forward flanker with pace, aggression, able to read the ball off marking contests and kick straight;
• forward pocket .... as above
• midfielders as above but also with the ability to win a contested ball

Now is the time for any of these young guys to buckle down and show some sustained football ability and leadership in the reserves and take advantage of these opportunities. If they cannot see this then we have drafted the wrong players. Players like Lamb, Partington (has SANFL league experience), McInnes, Allen, Nelson (might be harsh on him) and Karpany should be busting their guts to break into this side week in week out. (There's not much use talking about Jetta, Colledge, Giles, Lucas et al as they are, basically, cooked).
Not one of our second string players, with the exception of Barrass, has shown anything above average. One or two of them each week should be ripping games apart. Just watch when Sheed comes back from injury through East Perth ...... he has had a big taste of AFL and will be running himself ragged to get back in the A Team.

Giles does ok. I think he is East Perths leading goal scorer. He doesn't dominate but he would know he's only there as back up plus Johnson is the main ruckman.

Would have thought you would just front load contracts for a year or two to get to the minimum then go hard for a big name the following year with the space created instead of over paying for a list clogger?

That's all great, but the coach has to drop his current favourites to give anyone a go in any spot, and he's shown lately he'd rather wait for them to find form in the AFL side. That's the issue I have.

The problem is we just don't have quality depth, in particular in the midfield.

Players below are either not afl quality or just not ready yet. Apart from jetts, barass, Ellis, nelson, cole and the injured sheed the depth drops off quickly and outside of sheed we have no genuine ready midfield depth pushing the guys in the 22. It's concerning how many list cloggers we have and geeze as bad as our midfield appears to be at times, a few injuries in there and we would be right back down the ladder.

Still wouldn't mind getting more midfield minutes into Duggan, Nelson, yeo etc and if that means dropping one of the under performing guys I'm OK with that. Something needs to change anyway.

Article online says they were dropped due to poor form.

What sort of midfielder is Mutimer? If he comes on a bit he could be another option

I'm quite interested in this too. By the sounds he has quite good pace and a nice left foot, and at 185cm he isn't overly small either. Just from his physical attributes i'd love if he could become an Issac Smith type player for us, but can anyone in the know provide a little more insight?

Seen all of EP this year, hes been pretty impressive considering he had an interrupted pre season. not really an issac smith type at all, has above average pace and ability to break the lines but his build is that of an inside mid. very solid through shoulders and hips. More of a kieran jack/tom mitchell body shape, but not the same inside nous.

On a side note Jacko Nelson has played as an inside mid for the past month or so and has been super impressive, posiitons his body well enough that he can come out the front of stoppages and uses the ball well around the ground.
