Also think the original idea of both Freo and the Eagles having their own teams would have been the better way to go with hindsight. The problem is the fear factor by most of the other WAFL Clubs as they thought that both teams would be too strong and be so much superior to the other WAFL Clubs. In any event this still occurred last year with the alignment - Peel winning the GF.

Good info thanks. What I mean is it an alignment _with_ EP issue, rather than an alignment issue generally.

throne89's post above might explain a few things.
An alignment with Perth would work. We have the right smattering of players to make it work. The Lathlain deal just solidifies it.

But the club (Perth) has it's head up it's own arse.

Let's face it. Peel were a shitstorm before the dockers alignment so they embrace it.
Unsure any other WAFL club will embrace it and they didnt want an Eagles and Dockers reserve team in the league... Doesn't bode well really.

Perth was a shitstorm too. Just a stubborn one.

I don't recall there being major issues under Brain Dawson's coaching but since he moved on they've used West Coast club development coaches to head coach East Perth, no idea why apart from personal development.

Not sure why they bothered with promoting Jaymie Graham to the senior side in the knowledge he'd lose the EP job either.

Luke Webster doesn't seem the right man for the job
I agree with you there that Dawson was an excellent fit, but he had the experience. Since he left they have only had inexperienced head coaches which obviously is not the way to go - I think they have chosen this path as the Club wants to have the say as to how players are used? It's amazing that Peel have managed to make it work - who is their head coach, and is he aligned to the Dockers. If not, there's your answer. EP need to find an experienced coach.

Think it's an East Perth issue issue as well. They lost a big chunk of experience in the off season and didn't really get much in return apart from Eagles players.

Can't remember all the names of the EP players that left but know for certain that Paul Johnson was in there, Mitch Brown's delisting would of hurt them, Brendan Lee not returning to the WAFL, Garry Moss retiring etc.
it's catch 22.we are not allowed to recruit except under special circumstances. The first few years the ratio of eagles/and east perth were about 11/11.once a few retired like Josh Smith,Brendan Lee,Craig Wullff,Garry Moss,Paul Johnson, and also Mitch fraser's injury the team has less experience. Most of the eagles players were playing Colts/Tac a couple of years ago.People underestimate the Wafl.It is a man's league and people are wanting kids to go from colts to league without doing the hard yards of ressies.Sam pepper powell played colts/reserves and league last year for east perth and has an impact in his year of afl.He is an exception.IT might be that some players will take longer to develop or may just no be able to make it to wafl level let alone afl level.I too saw simmo at the ground and he would be embarrassed. The turnovers were incredible.I wont single out players but one so called afl listed player dropped a easy mark, fumbled it and when he picked it up panicked and his handball missed the target.I doubt anybody eagles supporters or east perth supporters could find anything positive to talk about.

Dawson had the ability to drop poor performing players and change gameplan/positions during the game. Graham and now Webster are 100% guided by what Simpson wants.

The AFL clubs don't want standalone teams. Would cost more and they would need to hire more people. They want alignments, somewhere they can use but have other people worry about and pay for the logistics.

I thought originally that was what the AFL Clubs did want, but ended up having to compromise with the alignment. It was my understanding this was not the preferred option by both Freo and the Eagles hierarchy?

Cam Shepherd is Peel's coach and is the Brian Dawson type coach. Has been coach of Peel already pre the alignment if memory serves me right.

From what I saw in 2016 he had the Dockers link only via his assistants like Anthony Rock, David Hale, Roger Hayden, formerly Peter Sumich etc.

Think that is the way to go forward for East Perth. Not backwards or stagnate under Webster

It is my understanding that the Eagles pay for and hire the coach of East Perth so blaming the coach and the development sits fairly and squarely at the Eagles.
As Chaddy said people really underestimate the WAFL, for many when a player gets on an AFL list they feel he is a very good footballer when in actual fact he is generally just a player with potential.
They are playing against seasoned good men's footballers with vast experience and struggle.
Peel won the flag last year because they had a number of players who had played large amounts of AFL.
I have always been against alignment and or stand alone AFL sides in the WAFL but I think a stand alone side would be better, with alignment you do have issues from club members what the priority is and while there might only be a thousand or two of them they pay a membership to East Perth and not to the Eagles, they would want East Perths priority to be about East Perth.

The absolute beatings is a sign something is not right. The lack of development and leadership at EP must be having a negative knock on effect at the WCE. If the Eagles are serious about developing quality depth they need to step in and do something now.

It is also possible that the players on our list that are our depth are very average footballers.

Great win by Subiaco today, way too good. Got a few East Perth supporting mates who were none too pleased with today's game.

Can we also please draft Liam Ryan this year? This kid could be a serious gun if given half a chance at the next level. :thumbsu:

We've already seen evidence of it. Sheed came into the side against St Kilda and looked completely off the pace. Duggan played last night and was only marginally better. Whatever game style is being implemented at East Perth is either a) being executed terribly or b) the wrong style for the personnel available.

Agree Dawson had the ability to communicate and manage all parties, the main damage was done under Jamie Graham ,the lack of communication and man management skills is a major reason East Perth are where they are now .Just look at the players that left the club after last season.Unfortunatly Webster has inherited a basket case.Amazing the amount of damage that can be done in a short period.

No doubt. I only rate less than a handful of players we currently have playing in the 2s but to lose in the way they are losing now is unacceptable.
I think the figures that are worrying is that East Perth won the hit outs 59-26 with a local boy playing his second wafl game and a makeshift ruckman.Subi also don't really have a top class ruckman. If you watched the game you see that they make up for it by winning the clearances. They also had 63 inside fifties to East Perth's 36.It is simple The midfield can't win the clearances which puts pressure on the backline who leak goals and the forward line is not getting supply or in a poor manner and are not scoring. It will be hard to rectify quickly.

if true that the Eagles do the hiring of the coach, then no wonder the EP stalwarts are so unhappy. It should be the EP Football Club who do the hiring of their staff including the coach, otherwise you might as well call the Club the WCE. I'm all for the WCE players being developed, but not at the expense of diluting the WAFL Club of its own requirements. That's why both AFL Clubs should have had their stand alone Clubs in the WAFL. Except for the expense involved, the ideal would be to increase the AFL lists and for the AFL to have a Reserves competition for all the AFL Clubs. I believe this has been discussed, but apparently it's not viable as considered too costly.
