**** I wish Lamb would come good. Very interesting to see they're playing him on a wing now..
Also wish FMac was 10cm taller he has fantastic skills for a big man. If we weren't so littered with talls he could really flourish in the forward line. But he's just not big enough to compete with big proper rucks

Lycett had a massive 67 Hitouts and 21 possessions, 1 goal and 6 tackles. Mutimer having 2 goals 32 possessions 8 inside 50's and 7 tackles was a great performance. Lamb also played well at least statistically racking up 30 possessions and 3 inside 50's. McInnes kicked 3 goals and 18 possessions with 4 marks. Even Giles got 55 Hitouts. Don't be unduly concerned by watsons low disposal count. The ball spent long periods in East Perths forward half so he wasn't required to do a lot
When the ball was in his area he had an influence and most importantly he was moving well. Showed no signs of any lingering ankle problems. Was rarely beaten 1 on 1

Very hard to judge a players progress after such weak competition.
I always thought his best attribute pre-draft was his tank, more of a utility player. I think he would go well on a wing if the team balance was alright. I also like the idea of Schofield the attacking wingman.
Maybe I miss that Embley type in the team, the fast top speed, bouncing, swerving, goal kicking wingman.

I jokingly said early in the game that their would be 100 hit outs but not in my imagination 122 to one side.Last week they did get 72 hit outs but last week the midfield got flogged,

I have no idea but East Freo only won 18. So it was a flogging. I reckon the stats are well off though cause 140 stoppages including throw-ins seems a lot.

Big win for East Perth but that needs to be qualified by the fact their opponent was the bottom side who were also missing a few of their better players. Mind you EP had only 9 Eagles players which is a season low and they had 4 players making their league debut and another playing only his 2nd league game so they were far from full strength themselves
East Perth dominated the first quarter and the ball lived in their forward half - I doubt the Sharks had more than 5 inside 50's if that many. Led by a rampant Fraser McInnes the royals kicked 5 unanswered goals in atrocious conditions to set up a match winning lead
East Fremantle threw massive numbers at the contest in the second quarter making for an ugly spectacle as a combination of high congestion and a wet slippery ball made for a rolling maul more reminiscent of rugby. Game was played between the arcs and a lot of those ruck contests would have been in this quarter. EP did scrounge a couple of goals whilst holding the Sharks goal less for the half
The third quarter opened up a bit and EF were able to get 3 goals for the quarter on the back of some favourable umpiring it must be said (EF won the free kick count 23-15). EP were able to kick four of their own though to extend their lead
Third quarter highlight was Lycett busting through congestion on the 50m arc, basically stopping to touch the ball on the ground as a bounce, dodging a would be tackler then shooting on goal. Kick was straight as an arrow and looked for all money like a goal but it fell short allowing EF defenders to punch it through for a behind. It really was poetry in slow motion
The last quarter was a bit of a repeat of the third with EP kicking five goals to three, highlighted by career first goals to a couple of the debutants who were then mobbed by all 17 teammates. It highlighted some real spirit among the playing group and was good to see
All in all it was a comprehensive 16.7 to 6.6 win that keeps the royals slim finals hopes alive
Next week they have an ill-timed bye before another minnow derby against Peel at Leederville as a precursor of sorts before the proper derby the next day between west coast and the ****heads down the highway

Any idea what he done?
It was funny watching Lycett bend down and try to touch the ball down on the turf but what I found funnier was how Waite butchered a few easier attempts to kick a goal in the last quarter and then kicked the harder option.Mutimers attempted pass which went over the heads of players and evaded everybody and went thru for a goal is a close third.

Lycett : 14k, 7hb, 2m, 6t, 67ho, 1.1 - very good game. Monstered the ruck albeit against an undersized opponent and was in the thick of it all game. Fought hard for ground balls and it's going to be tough for the MC to find the spot he deserves. He's ready for a recall
McInnes : 12k, 5hb, 4m, 1t, 3.0 - played as a permanent forward and EP were better for it (EP's Jones who's primarily a ruck and had been played forward in recent weeks was dropped to the reserves somewhat unluckily but the league side was better balanced as a resukt). Big Fraser was a standout. Under the conditions his ball handling was clean and not only did he kick 3 goals himself he had a hand in several others. Super impressive game from a big fella in unfavourable conditions for a tall. Making a good case to be retained in 2018
Gorter : 10k, 4hb, 2m, 0t - after getting pantsed last week he responded very well. Admittedly it was good weather for defenders but he was strong in the contest and calm under pressure. Very rarely beaten. Showed character to come back from the worst game I'd seen him play
Giles : 5k, 3hb, 0m, 1hb, 55ho - joined in the ruck domination with Lycett but was less effective around the ground. Don't think he offered more than the omitted Jones would have and I'm increasingly of the view we pay him out of his contract for next year because McInnes and Petrie deserve a spot ahead of him
Mutimer : 21k, 11hb, 4m, 7t, 2.1 - good conditions for a bulldozer and he thrived. Strong in the packs and was very good at driving the ball forward. His first goal was a bit of an accident as he over shot a kick to a leading forward from well outside 50 only to see the ball skid on for a goal. His second was a good round the body snap from about 25. Very solid game and a good return to form
Watson: 7k, 2hb, 2m, 2t - better than his stats suggest. Played half back so the ball wasn't often in his area. Attacked the ball well, used his pace and was rarely beaten one on one. No signs of the ankle injury that kept him out and showed enough, imo, that he's capable of putting pressure on the MC to select him later in the year once he recaptures his best form
Lamb : 16k, 14hb, 3m, 4t, 0.1 - not a typical Lamb game. Played primarily on the wing, worked hard, put his head over the ball and if have credited him with more than four tackles. He's a clever little ****er at times too - got himself in a good position for an out the back seagull goal several times but in the wet it just didn't work out for him. On another day he'd have 3 or 4 goals - that's also not a criticism as it was good positioning by him as he was better putting himself in a dangerous spot rather than getting sucked in to an already over crowded contest. He's been a source of frustration for me at times but I'm hard pressed to think of another player on our list that I want to see come good
Rotham : 5k, 1hb, 1m, 1t - like Watson the ball wasn't in his area a lot but unlike Franky he struggled a bit. In heavy conditions his lack of bulk showed and he was the worst of the Eagles players. Needs a preseason of protein shakes and gym work to bulk up. Should also hang around with Rioli and steal his food - will help both of them
Snadden: 8k, 7hb, 2m, 2t, 1.0 - given that those stats are from less than a half of footy they're very good. Got a knock somehow late in the second quarter which I didn't see, but he was very slow to get up and had to be helped from the ground. He didn't return and I'm assuming due to a concussion. Such a shame because like Mutimer the conditions suited him - bashing the ball forward to gain territory was more important than spotting up a target and he was being quite effective
Finally, he's not an Eagles player anymore but old ginners deserves some love. Had a game high 37 possessions, kicked a goal and was at his belligerent best. Was a
cracking game in conditions that were tailor made for a not so skilled player who has never lacked for effort

Where do you normally sit chaddy?
There was a couple sitting behind me in the stand that were desperately hoping young Waite would get a goal.
They were particularly pissed off when Mutimer kicked that snap in the last rather than dish off to the kid even if moots did the right thing
Usually sit just in front of the lotons area which is near the interchange bench.Still undercover Good place to compliment the umps when they come off the ground. Despite the small numbers it was very vocal maybe due to a few more locals playing plus a surprisingly even and good display by all players.I know I was happy being a co sponsor of Ben Miller who kicked a couple of goals.Only downsides was one possibly two reports and not a great debut by Asher Samalko.He did take one good mark but not a day for flyers.The other downside for me is poor Scott Jones may not get another game this season bar a injury to a ruckman.Doubt Giles will get another game at Afl level and probably the one thing which creates angst among East Perth supporters when arguably a local player is better then a eagle player but can't get a game.
