8th place
AFL Club
West Coast
Other Teams
West Ham, Tony Pulis hat
Eric McKenzie - Played on a wing again. Not happy. Still another great 20+ possession game from him and he uses it so very well. Still we need him to start at CHB.

Chad Jones - Kicked 4 on Graham and took alot of great contested marks. Definetly took the honors there

Jaymie Graham - Looked a bit disinterested today and down on form. Way below his normal standard

Ashley Sampi - Given week off I believe for a family funeral

Mitch Morton - Really just brilliant. Kicked 3 goals. Set up plenty more. Creative and looks to have added alot of muscle to his frame. First time ive been able to say he is 100% ready for AFL football

Chad Fletcher - Mid Way through the 4th he had 35 possessions. Probably ended up with over 40 touches. BOG

Wil Schofield - Poor guy. Team had 28 goals kicked against them but apparantly he stood up tall and he did kick 1 goal it seems

Matt Spangher - Broke his collarbone and out for 6 weeks

Jamie McNamara - BOG again for Easts with about 30 possessions and provided alot of run of a wing

Dont know anymore but ill post stats during the week. West Perth had a bye

what about mitch brown, apparently played at both end of the ground and did quite well from what i heard

The others were

Will Schofield - 19 kicks 7 handballs, 11 marks, 1 goal (What a game. His side got thrashed by 130 pts)
Jaymie Graham - 6 kicks 9 handballs, 2 marks (down game it seems)
Llane Spaanderman - 19 possessions 6 marks, 8 hitouts (Easts were flogged in the ruck. He was backup for Beeck)
Ben McKinley - 13 possessions 7 marks, 1 goal 2
Chad Jones - 10 possessions 5 marks, 4 goals (played on Graham and took some impressive contested marks)

Man, most of our wafl players are on fire it seems! brown, morton, mcnamara, mackenzie, spaanders, schofield all having great runs of form.

Both Spangher and Wooden picked up injuries on the weekend. Spanghers out for 4 weeks with a shoulder injury whereas it sounds like Wooden has hurt his groin yet again

Ashley Sampi - Given week off I believe for a family funeral

He's been given time off for personal reasons a number of times now. Does he really need it or is he just taking advantage of the situation? I don't mean to come across as insensitive, a death in the family is a big issue. But it seems to happen to him more than other players. Always a reason why he's behind in fitness, why he's lacking match fitness, etc.

Perth 13.10.88 def East Perth 11.11.77]
GOALS - Perth: Kayler - Thomson 3, McCorkell 2, Gaspar 2, Brent Jones 2, Davis 2, Krueger, Sprigg. East Perth: Seal 3, Mills 2, Merrington 2, Oliver, Wulff, Hancock, McKinley.
EFTel Oval, Lathlain - Saturday 2:15pm
Eagles Players Involved:
Sam Butler (Per) - Injured groin: indefinite. Didn’t play, I thought he may have snuck a reserves game.
Ben McKinley (EP) - W/FP/FF/C - Tried hard all day but just didn’t get any help from many team mates. Started the last quarter in the centre and he ran hard to try and lift the team but it was in vain. Kicked 1 goal 2, the goal was from the square, the two misses were snaps from 30-40m. His goal-kicking and field kicking was still bad.
Llane Spaanderman* (EP) - CHF/Ruck - Just an average game. Had good moments but did some stupid things at times which he wasn’t the only East Perth player to have a game like that. Zac Beeck had countless brain fades today which saw Spaanderman have more ruck time than he usually would but he wasn’t as good as he was last week.

Claremont 15.7.97 def South Fremantle 14.9,93
GOALS - Claremont: Jones 4, Morton 3, Matson 2, Cousens, Rowe, Crawford, Chidgzey, Handley, Carlon. South Fremantle: Collard 4, Murphy 4, Kelly, McGrath, Smithers, Duffield, Hay, Mugambwa.
Claremont Oval - Saturday 2:15pm
Eagles Players Involved:
Chad Jones* (Cl) - In Claremont’s best players, not sure if he kicked 4 goals or if it was Anthony Jones.
Eric MacKenzie (Cl) - In Claremont’s best players.
Mitch Morton (Cl) - Kicked 3 goals.
James Thomson (Cl) - (Reserves) In Claremont’s best players and kicked a goal. Should be close to a league debut.
Beau Wilkes* (Cl)
Jaymie Graham (SF)
Ashley Sampi (SF) - Did not play.

West Perth - Bye
Eagles Players Involved:
Ben Sharp* (WP)
Mark LeCras (WP) - Travelled to Melbourne.

Subiaco 28.14.182 def Peel Thunder 5.10.40
GOALS - Subiaco: B. Smith 7, Broughton 4, Mapleston 4, Newick 4, M. Smith 2, Pickett 2, Fletcher, Beattie, Webb, Forrest, Trewhella. Peel Thunder: Ballantyne 3, Buszan, R. O'Brien, Schofield, Bloxsidge, Bolton .
Medibank Stadium, Leederville - Saturday 2:15pm
Eagles Players Involved:
Chad Fletcher (Sub) - Best on ground, last I heard he was up to 30 disposals during the 3rd quarter. Kicked a goal.
Mark Nicoski (Sub) - Injured shoulder: 7 weeks.
Josh Wooden (Sub)
Will Schofield (Peel) - Peel’s best player, kicked 1 goal.
Ashley Thornton* (Peel) - Injured knee: season.

Swan Districts 13.15.93 def East Fremantle 9.19.73
GOALS - Swan Districts: Taylor 3, Ingall 2, Miles 2, Wulf 2, Ames, Beros, Robinson, McKinlay. East Fremantle: McCarrey 5, Woewodin 2, Foster, Masten.
Steel Blue Oval, Bassendean - Saturday 2:15pm
Eagles Players Involved:
Mitchell Brown (EF) - Worked hard but very quiet.
Tim Houlihan (EF)
Jamie McNamara* (EF) - Back in East Fremantle’s best players.
Matthew Spangher (EF) - Injured his shoulder in the first quarter and looks like he will miss 4-6 weeks.

NEXT WEEKS GAMES
Peel Thunder vs South Fremantle at Rushton Park - Saturday 2:15pm
East Fremantle vs Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval - Saturday 2:15pm
Perth vs Claremont at EFTel Park, Lathlain - Saturday 2:15pm - Live on ABC TV
Swan Districts vs West Perth at Steel Blue Oval, Bassendean - Saturday 2:15pm
East Perth - Bye
(All games at the same time as the West Coast vs Western Bulldogs game at Subiaco Oval next Saturday)

From the West:

WEST COAST
Chad Jones (C): Good contributor up forward with four goals.

Beau Wilkes (C): Little impact.

Eric Mackenzie (C): Great poise in fifth game. Exciting prospect.

Mitch Morton (C): Finished strongly and kicked three goals.

Mitchell Brown (EF): Excellent effort at both ends of the ground.

Matthew Spangher (EF): Serious collarbone injury after only 15 minutes.

Jamie McNamara (EF): Hard-working rookie with 28 possessions.

Llane Spaanderman (EP): Only eight hit-outs. Needs to have more impact.

Ben McKinley (EP): Strong overhead, with seven marks across half-forward.

Will Schofield (PT): Peel’s best as a rebounding defender.

Jaymie Graham (SF): Tried hard but beaten by Daniel Bandy.

Chad Fletcher (S): Dominant, hard-running effort.

Josh Wooden (S): Suffered groin injury early in match.

Exciting West Coast teenager Mitchell Brown increased his chances of an early AFL recall with a versatile performance for East Fremantle against Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

Brown started in attack but was switched back in the second half after serious injures to key defenders Matthew Spangher and Rob Brown.

He curbed Darwin recruit Nicholas Ingall, a damaging player in the first two quarters, and also did well against 2006 State ruckman Tallan Ames.

Midfielder Chad Fletcher was in brilliant form for Subiaco against Peel while Eagles teammates Eric Mackenzie and Mitch Morton played soundly for Claremont against South Fremantle.

Brown's stocks certainly seem to be rising. I can see him taking someone else's place for the final series this year... or at least next year.
