5 teams on 32 - 40 points, it's now getting to the pointy end of the season, with a belter on Friday night and Blockbuster on Saturday. The Royals have to wait nervously to see what develops with the other contenders.

Bulldogs v Falcons - Both teams have been relatively inconsistent this season, but the last time they met on a wet Friday evening at Freo the Falcons were dumped from the 4. This time it might just keep them out, should they lose.

The Bulldogs have only 2 games to play, so are effectively out of the finals race, but will they want to go out on a positive note? Will they be able to out control and out run the Falcons like last time? McGrath, Miller, Murphy, Wilson, Hunt, Bossong, McCarrey, White, Bairstow have been left carrying a large workload. However, they have unearthed Gugliamana, Carter, Collica, Palumbo, Kersten.

The Falcons should have more spirit for this game, because they are only outside the 4 on percentage, but will they? Salecic usually leads from the front and rarely lets down. He will need the Falcons to come out firing like last week and get all the support he can from Guadagnin, Rice, Pearce, Lasscock, Bewick, LeCras, Tsalikis, Keunen, Andrews and co. They will likely have to weather an early onslaught like the Swans did last week, but can they?
Falcons should win, but I think the doggies might just bite back.

Tigers v Swans - So far Swans are the only team to beat the Tigers this year, inflicting a loss and a draw on the Tiges. Might be important, psychologically, for the Tiges to get a win on the board before the finals.

The Tiges have been coping well without AFL players and still cruising, however, with possibly the same team as last week, will that be enough against the Swans? Blackwell is leading superbly, with Brabazon, Schammer, Foster, Neates, Walton, Ninyette, Browne they should still be a handfull for the Swans midfield. C Jones back up forward, with Rowe, Richardson, Crawford is a potent forward line and will need to be watched carefully. Laurie is leading the defence superbly and with Derrickx, Mitchell, Starling are proving a miserly defence.

Roberts, Krakouer, Riggio, Hinkley, Wolfenden, Richardson, Fleay, Walters and Garlett should be tough opponents for the Tigers. Geappen, Simpson, Pullman and Notte should provide ample contest for the Tiger backs, if it is dry they'll be more than a handfull with the height advantage. Ames has done 1 great job on C Jones earlier this season, but had great support from the mids in harrassing pressure, and Jetta and Pratt providing a chop out. Jetta would likely go to Ninyette, for pace, whilst Spencer should hold CHB and marshall the troops up the ground.
Should be a highly entertaining match, but the home ground may get the Tigers over the line!

Demons v Thunder - The battle for the wooden spoon climaxes on Saturday, with Peel the odds on favourite to win it. However, the Dees have taken their foot off the pedal after beating Swans a few weeks ago! This does shape as a match of interest for those watching the younger talent coming through the WAFL. If both teams can keep a core of these younger group together they will be a lot more competitive next year, and beyond.

Perth have a handy forward line with Ferguson, Houghton, Moody, McDougall able to play through there as well as Armstrong and a few small forwards. Then there is Mzungu, who knocks up getting the ball, Young, Siekerka, O'Sullivan, Ruffles, Elari, Sneuwajt, Bollenhagen, White - younger guys that can all play through the middle. In defence Billings has been very good, with McLernon Lang and Ransted providing some experience and leadership.

Peel don't have the experience and leadership luxury, IMO. Battye fights a losing battle, out of his weight division all the time, with Holmes, Jones, Chartres and O'Brien, but they simply lack classy support, with experience. Filo has been a pretty good find, J Jones and Crichton have added a fair bit when they've been available. Luff, Wilson, Butcher, Bennell, Mason have all shown glimpses but 2+ of these will be drafted. McPhann has been a surprise late in the year and shows some hope of being a decent WAFL player, whilst Ware is having an average year, we know he can be better.
Perth should win this easily.

Lions v Sharks - Who would have thought the Lions would be out of the 4 at this stage of the season and fighting for their survival? The one thing going in their favour is that the Sharks haven't beaten them for years, but can they, and thereby putting a nail in the coffin of the Lions 2010 finals hopes?

The Lions will turn to all their experience for this game. They know they have the psychological advantage over the Sharks and will want to maintain it. Their defence is relatively solid, with Rumble, Parker, Randall, Keevers. In attack they need more from Campbell, Re, Sheehan (if they play him, but why wouldn't they?) to support Broadhurst. The Sharks don't have a great attack, so maybe one of the defenders can be thrown forward to support the lone attacking threat they seem to have. Midfield there is Blechynden and Kerr, a couple of up and comers, Read, Cossom, Webb, Hilde provide a wealth of experience and Rix and Newick provide a good ruck combo.

The Sharks first priority should be to shutdown Broadhurst, so send a run with player. I'd actually like to see young Brennan given the job, because I think he is capable, although Dodd will probably get the job. Weller and Warren have been super in defence, but I'd leave Weller to blanket Campbell, keep him out of the game and don't give him a chance of getting into it. Forward Dunn and Bucovaz have been pretty good in various games, whilst Young has been a handy foil at CHF. The Sharks midfield seems to have more zip than the Lions, McNamara and McGough provide the experienced heads, Monteath, Monk, Chidlow, Ciotti provide a steady midfield rotatio, whilst Cripps and Fasolo provide the flair.
Sharks should win, on paper, IMO, but the Lions probably will.

Swannies you can move this post down a couple of posts (if your powers allow you to do so) so It doesn't interfere with your match preview posts as I see you have only complete one thus far.

Pacey's punting segment should be in Friday evening or early Saturday morning.

ps. I am 2/2 in my best bets category so far so stay tuned to see if I can make it 3/3 and help you pocket some $$$

Keep posting those betting lines Pacey, makes for interesting reading!:thumbsu:

Masten and Palmer both in for the Sharks, you'd have to like their chances now!

Swannies, you always seem so confident about the Demon's future. I wish I could share your optimism. The only thing I've heard that gives me hope is the possibility of Sumich becoming the coach next season and the Eagles asking that their interstaters get allocated to Perth. Have you heard anything along these lines?

South Fremantle vs West Perth

Very interesting game this one. My heart says south but my head is starting to say Falcons. Wilson is a big out for Souths and with Mugambwa playing as the Full forward may make things difficult for souths to score. He can jump and he can mark but I wouldn't say he is a match winner and souths will need to heavily rely on Murphy to kick 5+ for Souths to win. Guglielmana and Motlop will also need to kick at least 2 goals each as well as Mugambwa. West Perth are still a real finals chance and a win here is a must and will know it. They got out of the blocks very slowly about a month ago in a similar match / conditions. I think many Falcons players will remember this and will be on the front foot from the start. I can not really pick a winner here or I can but I just can't admit South Fremantle on form won't win this game. But souths at home on a Friday night appeals to me more and the line is on the money here as I expect this to be a close one. SOUTH FREMANTLE 3 points
H2H: South Fremantle $1.59 West Perth $2.21
Line: South Fremantle -8.5 West Perth +8.5

Claremont vs Swan Districts

These two sides played an epic match a few weeks again and plenty of fire in the belly from the players should still be present. Shammer and Walters are big outs for Claremont and Swan Districts respectively but swans gain Pearce. Chad Jones is back for this match where he was injured when the last time these two sides met so with this in mind and the home ground advantage I think Claremont may take the points again. CLAREMONT 13 points
H2H: Claremont $1.23 Swan Districts $3.75
Line: Claremont - 24.5 Swan Districts + 24.5 *best bet*

Perth vs Peel Thunder

The battle of the wooden spoon this game will be viewed as. Perth last time won by 90 odd points after Peel was leading at half time by a small margin. On paper Perth has looked like a reasonable side and despite where the two sides sit it already looks like a blow out by some. Critchon with Docker duties hasn't helped Peel one bit. However if there is any match Peel can be competitive in it is this one and I expect them to be competitive for the first half anyway. Perth at $1.05 is massive unders in my opinion for a side on the same number of points as the other. But in saying this Perth should still win and by a reasonable margin but it is a game I wouldn't be putting the whole bankroll on. PERTH 45 Points
H2H: Perth $1.05 Peel Thunder $8.00
Line: Perth - 46.5 Peel Thunder + 46.5

Subiaco vs East Fremantle

I believe this is MOTR and both sides need to win but Subiaco more so. Des Headland is a chance of playing for Subiaco this week and I feel he will and this should help. However East Fremantle welcome back R.Dunn, R.Palmer and C.Masten. With R.Palmer and C.Masten very keen to get back into their AFL sides I expect 25+ possessions from both of them. Sharks have been poor againist the better sides this year but Subiaco who are no longer in the 4 can hardly be called a top side anymore. EAST FREMANTLE 11 points
H2H: Subiaco $1.68 East Fremantle $2.06 *value bet*
Line: Subiaco - 5.5 East Fremantle + 5.5

Have you heard anything along these lines?

I'm optimistic because Perth keep producing AFL players, probably second to East Freo out of the WAFL. This means they can get their hands on talent, what they need to do is get their colts players to stay on after colts and not getting drafted.

Now a few mature age players are being drafted I think we'll see more colts players stay on. They need a couple of quality, mature imports and more importantly, a coach that says it's my way or the highway. Must have a strong coach, IMO, otherwise they'll continue to flounder.

Well, looks like mothballs for the Doggies after the Falcons fractured their fragile finals fortunes tonight!:)
