Well ive not seen how Naitanui has progressed over the summer, i know what hes capable of from last year and if he improves in areas i know how good he could potentially be.

Swift on the other hand ive watched plenty in 2009, hes a ball magnet first and foremost. His got the "potential" to be the most complete midfielder we have ever had. Strong in contested situations, a clearence machine, quick and efficent when outside, a strong mark and a prolific goal kicker.

He plays short or tall, can either find his way around traffic directly through hard wheeling and manouvering like Kerr, by breaking the lines at speed or dumey his way through with soft dance with light feet.

His a predator of the football when his not at the bottom of the pack, constantly working himself into that foot of space thats the difference between getting the lose ball or recieve and not.

If you watch him do his impression of Judds "like thief in the night" you will witness his pace from a standing start, blackwell i think recieved the ball by hand. Blackwell should of giving it back, Swift skipped along beside waiting for the one two, blackwell at full tilt kicked wastefully into the forward 50.

He can get better, as his match fitness and conditioning improves he will play longer through the middle. He will reach more stopages and have more energy to perform once there, once Claremont catch on he will recieve allot more cheap one two's and be used when his the best available option.

I think Wisby was spot on.

Yeah but you'd say Naitanui has the X-factor to turn a game on its head.

Id love to see Wisby's article on him. Ive been watching Carlton and looking at the ruck setup they have going and this makes Naitanui all the more exciting.

anyone know the story with kennedy's injury??

after two goals and three marks just in the first quarter one would suggest he was well on the way to have another cracker of a match.

i seriously can't believe he hasn't cracked our starting 22 this year and this looked like it could've been the game where he just made the match committee have to pick him.

Josh will be OK for next week. Not concussion but he copped a whack in the eye, the eye closed shut and he couldnt return to the game. He was keen to get back on , but with one eye completely swelled shut I dont think it was a great idea.

Seems like he could still be in selection.

Swift does sound exciting but we all know how you guys like to jizz in your pants about untried kids.

What about Naitanui? Did he play at all on the weekend?

Naita pulled out late from the Swans ressies with tightness in the Hamstring

Really? What about Naitanui?
Hmmm good point I can't decide! But it's a good decision to have to make!:)

This is what has stood out for me (among many other things). He is lightning quick within the packs, you really have to watch it to understand. It means he can get to a lot of balls that 99.9% of players can't and once he gets it he is gone in a flash. He also has the core strength to stand up in tackles.

I agree that Wisby was spot on. Not just in how highly he rated him but in the analysis of his game. Eg. His kicking is mostly excellent and he has great technique but for some reason he absolutely butchers the odd ball (like Kerr I guess). He also summed him up perfectly in one word,

SPECIAL

I'm not too sure Wisbey ever released his profile on Naitanui, which is a shame because it would have been an awesome read.

Houlihan will be the next player promoted from the WAFL surely. He's been awesome this season.

Agree, sounds like he's put two great games together in a row. Would definately give him a run this week, hard slog in the rain, long plane trip so some sore legs from those who played this week in Tassie.

Don't be surprised to see Fletcher back in this week, remember he is a Freo / Mid Western Derby Medalist specalist.:D

Cockie having a great game for Subi. 20 disposals and 2 goals to 3qtr time. Plenty of tackles too.

Here we go.

Sounds like Swift and Cockie were the stand-outs this weekend.

Anyone else?

Cockie ended up with 26 disposals, Fletcher had 20 and a goal.

Spangher was named in the bests for Easts, 19 possies in defence.

If anyone went to the game it'd be nice to hear a bit more of a description. He's been playing full back/CHB the last few games and shutting down his opponents so I assume that's where he was on the weekend.

How many clangers?

Not sure, tbh, but I liked the sound of Cockie. He seemed to be involved in most of Subi's forays forward in the last quarter and worked hard throughout. If a midfielder gets dropped this week, I'd expect Cockie to come in for them. Fletcher didn't really seem to have much influence on the game.

Cockie was BOG. Had 25 odd touches and about 10 tackles, and a lot of his posessions were around the stoppages in and under. Typical hard nut performance and the 2 goals were icing on the cake.

Fletcher was suprisingly hard at it, but had a few clangers. Probably the most important clanger was late in the last quarter when Subi were less than a goal behind. Rather than kick into the forward line Fletcher handballed to no-one in particular, turning the ball over. Did kick a good goal though from the pocket earlier.

Cockie is most deserving of a call up out of our midfielders waiting in the wings. Considering he was an emergency this week, id wager he will be in the line-up for the derby if both Stenglein and Staker get dropped.

Let me explain the second highlighted part. What Fletcher was trying to do was to make a team mate run into space in the forwrd pocket and handball the ball into that space. I could see what he was trying to do, unfortunately his team mate couldn't and EP picked up the loose ball. Fletch's passing to forwards was very good, as usual, Audacious also correctly pointed out that he was "surprisingly hard at it" which was good to see.

Cockie's always hard at it. In fact the last quarter of this game is as hard a quarter as I've seen in a long time. Maybe he'd even fill the forward pocket void? 1 nice snap today and his left foot passing was surprisingly good. I say surprising only because I hadn't really noticed his left foot kicking previously.

Liked the look of a skinny 19yo, 45 for EP in Kyle Anderson. Watson, 38 for Subi was also on debut and did a few good things in defence. It's exciting seeing the number of young kids getting a crack at WAFL and showing their wares, great stuff. :thumbsu:
