Awesome job! Thanks so much for doing this. You've done what I always wanted to do but never had the know-how to do.

No worries JT wouldn't have been able to get it to a state of where it is without help from a few like yourself. I am going through all the players cleaning up all the names on the goalscorers list finding duplicate players. I have done 1200 odd players still some 14000 or so to go.

Round 9 review online now.

Highlights this week include Swans first 7-1 start to a season in nearly 30 years, Claremont worst percentage at round 9 for almost 60 years, Peel breaking anoth long losing streak and keeping South Fremantle to their lowest ever score against themselves, Perth and East Fremantle who both amazingly started the match with 998 goals each in games between each othe at Lathalin Park notch up their 1000th goals against each other at the ground whilst the sharks extend the best league match up winning streak to 10 games, and Subiaco and WP record their 38th consecutive game where both teams score less than 100 points.
Now that all teams have played each other once, how's a good time to check out the season records page to check how each team is traveling in 2014!

I love the WAFL Footy Facts Website, and really enjoyed the section on drawn games. I couldn't believe how infrequently they occur:

CLAREMONT played only 1 draw, against East Perth in 1993, between 1987 (against Subiaco) & 2010 (against Swan Districts), and have not tied since.

SUBIACO'S only draw since 1987 took place in 2001, against West Perth.

SOUTH FREMANTLE have not played a draw since 1997 against East Perth, with this being the first drawn game for the Bulldogs since 1984 (against West Perth), with these 2 games South's only ties since 1965 against Claremont.

EAST FREMANTLE last played a draw in the 1989 First Semi Final against West Perth, with the Sharks winning the replay. The Sharks last draw before this was in 1974 against Swans, and before that they last tied in 1964 against Subiaco.

SWAN DISTRICTS tied twice in 2009 against West Perth and Perth, and again against Claremont in 2010, but before this had played only 1 draw since 1988, against East Perth in 2003.

WEST PERTH seem to draw more frequently, and in 1960 alone played 3 drawn games, and 2 ties in 1969. This must have steadied the Falcons' nerves, as both seasons ended in West Perth premierships. Of the 31 drawn games since 1946, West Perth have featured in 16 of them, but regardless, the Falcons still went 15 (1969-1984) and 12 seasons (1989-2001) without a draw.

EAST PERTH played in both of the only 2 draws in the 1990s, tying with Claremont in 1993, and South Fremantle in 1997. Before 1993, the Royals had not drawn since 1969.

PERTH played in draws in 2008 & 2009 against West Perth and Swans respectively, but before this had not finished level with a team since Round 1 1986, against West Perth, and before that they last tied in 1961, against Swan Districts.

PEEL THUNDER have never played a draw in 17 completed seasons since their 1997 debut.

As mentioned in the East Perth section, there were only 2 draws in the 1990s, but only 1 took place in the 1950s, between West Perth & South Fremantle in 1957 (the first since 1946). There were no draws between 1974 & 1984, and no teams tied from 2004 to 2007 either.

Sorry for not being too active in this thread lately guys!

Still definitely love having a read but with a new house, bub #2, and longer commute to work each day... keeping up with WAFL stats - or even attempting to dig up more info, is proving to be a damn hard thing to do.

But that's OK - because Ric's just crushing it at the moment with the updates for his website.

In the AFL, Les Abbott, Les Hughson, Dale Kickett and Adrian Fletcher all played senior football for 5 AFL/VFL clubs, while former NRL player Brett Kimmorley played for 6 teams. A number of other players have represented 4 or more teams at senior level.

I was wondering if there are any stats on journeyman WAFL players, who represented more than 3 WAFL clubs?

Not off the top of my head, although there have been players with a number of movements between three clubs, more if you add in VFL/AFL careers:

Peter Spencer began his career at East Perth, moved to North Melbourne, back to East Perth, then to Subiaco, then across to Claremont before finishing his career back at East Perth.

Gerard Neesham began his career at East Fremantle before moving to Swan Districts. He spent a year at Sydney in 1982 before heading back to Swan Districts in 1983. He lasted two seasons there before he and John Todd had enough of each other before going back to East Fremantle for the 1985 and 1986 seasons. He was then appointed Captain-Coach of Claremont and held that position until 1989, after which he retired as a player. The last decade of Neesham's career is amazing. Had he stayed at Swan Districts instead of going to Sydney, he would have most likely played in their 1982 premiership. Had he done that, he would have played in 9 of the decade's Grand Finals (1981 being the only exception, with SD losing to SF in the Prelim), for 6 premierships. As it was, he'll just have to settle for 5 flags from 8 Grand Finals.

Derek Kickett is interesting. His career went West Perth - Claremont - Central Districts (SA) - North Melbourne - Essendon - Sydney Swans - Subiaco.

Of course, you can add Claremont to Dale Kickett's list of clubs.

Thanks Up For Grabs.

The Peter Spencer - Gerard Neesham careers are very interesting. If there was a trophy for the unluckiest player, Derek Kickett would have one hand on it (losing out on a Sandover Medal in 1987 due to suspension, playing in a badly beaten Essendon Grand Final team in 1990, being dropped from Essendon's 1993 Grand Final team that would win the flag, after playing every game for the season to date that year, finishing his career in another Grand Final loss, with the Sydney Swans, against his first AFL team, North Melbourne).

One much travelled player who also came to mind was Scott Simister.

Simister played for VFA club Springvale in 1991-1992, was drafted by Melbourne and played at the Demons in 1993 (including their Reserves premiership), went to West Adelaide for 1994-1996, played at Peel Thunder from 1997 to 2002, spent some time back in Victoria with the Frankston Dolphins, then returned to Peel Thunder in 2004, before crossing to East Fremantle to finish his career.

Another player who travelled a fair bit was Martin Melody. He began at VFA club Oakleigh in 1991-1994, spending much of 1993 as a back-up in Footscray Reserves; went to Springvale Scorpions in 1995, to East Fremantle in 1996-1998, before leaving for SANFL club Glenelg Tigers.

Thanks Swans 4 Eva - great work.

Given that most of these were from before World War 1, involved defunct teams such as North Fremantle and Midland Junction, and only one player, Eric Sarich, is post World War 2, it is not surprising I couldn't think of any such players off-hand.

In 2012, East Fremantle played in all 3 Grand Finals - League, Reserves & Colts - but walked away without any silverware. Claremont proved far too strong in the League and Reserves, and South Fremantle trounced East Fremantle in the Colts.

The year of 1992 was famously described as an "annus horribilus" by the Queen, and West Perth probably would have agreed with her sentiments, with the Falcons collecting the wooden spoon in all 3 grades that season. In 1997, Peel Thunder made an inauspicious debut, claiming wooden spoons in League, Reserves and Colts.

One thing I cannot remember is a team winning the premiership in all 3 grades in the same year. Does anyone know if this has been done by any team, and when? Also are there any other examples of teams losing all 3 grand finals, or winning all 3 wooden spoons in the same season?

Round 13 review online now - highlights include Swans 3rd biggest 3 qtr time deficit ever overcome to win, Peel ending their longest losing streak v Perth, East Perth extending one the worlds oldest winning streaks that started back in 1908, and the Sharks lowest winning score v Subi at Leederville.

The WAFL have always been good at keeping records of behinds. I am curious about the write up in the WA newspapers regarding the night series match between Swan Districts and Fitzroy from April 30, 1985. The stats nerd in me wants to know whether there is mention as to how many behinds Shane Halas kicked to go with his 8 goals.

Let me see if I've got these details at home. Will check later tonight.

Sorry mate - nothing in my scans, although I don't have scans of the West Australian, where I'd say the details might be kept.

Round 16 review online
Highlights include,
East Perth's most points scored in a 4th qtr v East Fremantle at Leederville
South Fremantle's 50th round 16 win, according to my stats it's 1200th win overall
