Round 16 was played in some bad weather at times although a couple of the games were still pretty good from a contest perspective and that helped throw up a couple of surprises in terms of match results. A numbers of tipsters picked three tips correctly for the round but masai went one better, snagging the bonus point after being only one point away from Claremont's winning margin of 24 points to help him claim four points overall.

With 16 rounds completed, RickSanchez has taken the outright lead, moving to 46 points with masai and Freofalcon joining gaskin and myself in a tie for second place on 45 points.

Round 17 Fixtures

East Perth vs Perth at Leederville Oval (1:40pm, margin)
Claremont vs Subiaco at Claremont Oval (2:15pm)
East Fremantle vs Swan Districts at East Fremantle Oval (2:15pm)
West Perth vs Peel Thunder at Joondalup Arena (2:15pm)
Bye: South Fremantle

Round 17 is approaching with all four games this week on Saturday afternoon. The traditional clash between western suburbs rivals Claremont and Subiaco will take place again, with this installment at Claremont Oval. The Tigers pushed their way back into the top five last week and will be keen for another win to cement their spot while Subiaco are coming back after a week's break having had the bye last week. East Fremantle will lock horns with Swan Districts with both sides having plenty to play for. East Fremantle must win if they want to avoid the wooden spoon while Swan Districts also must win to keep their finals chances in tact. At Joondalup, West Perth will play host to Peel Thunder in another big game as both sides look for a win to help their own causes. A victory for the Falcons will give them a one game gap back to South Fremantle in the race for a home qualifying final while Peel Thunder must win to stay in the hunt for a top five finish. After a week off, the TV game is back and this week it is a crucial clash between top five aspirants East Perth and Perth. The Royals didn't have a great time at a rain-sodden Claremont Oval last week and must bounce back if they want to play finals football. Perth meanwhile have been impressive over the past couple of months and a win here would get them very, very close to securing a finals berth. The telecast begins at 1:30pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 1:40pm. This match also leads into Channel Seven's AFL coverage although you'll need to switch to 7mate to see that game.

There's some changes in the other grades this week. The Claremont vs Subiaco and East Fremantle vs Swan Districts Colts and Reserves' matches are at their usual times of 9am and 11:30am respectively. However, the Colts match for East Perth vs Perth is a twilight game at 4:30pm while the Reserves have an earlier start time of 10:55am. For West Perth vs Peel Thunder it is a similar story with the Colts playing a twilight match at 5pm while the Reserves are at their usual start time of 11:30am.

After a pretty wet day on Saturday last week, the weather is looking a bit better for this coming Saturday. At this stage, only a shower or two is expected with a maximum of 18 degrees predicted at the moment. The chance of rainfall is only 50% so there's an even chance it may not rain at all this coming Saturday.

Well just five rounds to go as we head into the business end of the season. There's plenty to play for again this week with a number of sides knocking on the door of the top five. Hopefully things stay dry on Saturday and we can see some close and entertaining games of WAFL footy. Happy tipping!!

Round 17 proved to be pretty pivotal thanks to the classic contest between East Perth and Perth which was one of two exciting games for the round and arguably one of the best of the season so far. Quite a few tipsters managed to tip all four games correctly for the round but gaskin selected all four games correctly and got the bonus point to finish the round with a score of five.

After 17 rounds, gaskin has joined RickSanchez in the lead on 50 points with Freofalcon, masai, Monocle and myself all tied for third place on 48 points.

Round 18 Fixtures

South Fremantle vs West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (1:40pm, margin)
Peel Thunder vs East Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium (2:15pm)
Subiaco vs Swan Districts at Leederville Oval (2:15pm)
Bye: Claremont, East Fremantle, Perth

We head into Round 18 now with just the three games this week, all on Saturday afternoon. Peel Thunder head home to Mandurah and will take on East Perth in the battle of the aligned clubs on Saturday afternoon. It's a big clash for both sides with each team fighting for a spot in the top five, a win for the Thunder could see them inside the top five at the end of the round while victory for the Royals would see them move into fourth position and almost shut the door on Peel's finals hopes. Subiaco play their first home game for three weeks as they tackle Swan Districts at Leederville Oval. Swans are sure to come out firing with their finals chances resting on this game and they'll need a win to stay in touch for a finals spot. The TV game this week sees South Fremantle coming off the bye to host West Perth in a huge game at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The Falcons took second spot last week and can go a long way to wrapping up a double chance with victory while the Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back and a win could potentially see them take back second place on the ladder. The telecast of this game begins at 1:30pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 1:40pm. This match also leads into Channel Seven's AFL coverage although you'll need to switch over to 7mate to catch that game.

There's some changes in the other grades this week with the South Fremantle vs West Perth Reserves' clash to start at 10:55am while the Colts will play a twilight match beginning at 4:30pm. In the other fixtures there are no changes with the Colts to get underway at 9am and the Reserves' bouncedown scheduled for 11:30am.

The weather on Saturday is not looking all that great with showers expected although they are predicted to be mostly in the morning. The maximum for Saturday at this stage is only 15 degrees so not too warm at all, definitely jacket weather if you're at any of the games this week!

Another big round of WAFL action is upon us with the teams this week having a lot to play for with finals spots and possible double chances on the line. Hopefully the weather will clear up quickly so we can see some great games of footy this coming weekend. Happy tipping!!
