Well the State League is finished for another year with the WAFL running out 26 point winners over the SANFL on Saturday. Things didn't look great at quarter time with the WAFL trailing by 22 points but an eight goal to nothing second term put the Black Swans on top at the main break. The Croweaters fought back in the third kicking five goals but the Black Swans booted another five in the last to seal the match. Jye Bolton claimed the Simpson Medal for the WAFL with 35 possessions while Sharrod Wellingham, Jonathon Marsh, Shane Nelson, Luke Meadows, Tony Notte and Andrew Strijk had very good games as well.

The win was the first time a Western Australia representative side (either State League or State of Origin) has won in Adelaide against a South Australian side for 24 years. The match was also played before the AFL Showdown between Port Adelaide and Adelaide which saw the game attract a good crowd towards the end of the match. There's talk of playing next year's game between the WAFL and SANFL as a curtain-raiser to a Western Derby with Channel Seven to hopefully cover both matches.

With six wins from their last six games, it is now undisputed that the WAFL is the best state league in the country having beaten the VFL twice (both home and away), the SANFL twice (both at home and away) and also the NEAFL and TSL in the past six years. It's a truly remarkable effort and we can all be proud of the WAFL's on field performances over the past six years.

    Round Seven Fixtures

Peel Thunder vs Subiaco at Bendigo Bank Stadium (2:10pm, margin)
Claremont vs Perth at Claremont Oval (2:15pm)
East Perth vs South Fremantle at Leederville Oval (2:15pm)
West Perth vs East Fremantle at Joondalup Arena (2:15pm)

    Bye: Swan Districts

Back to the regular season now as we get into Round Seven with all four games taking place on Saturday afternoon. First up sees Claremont battling Perth at Claremont Oval with the Dees having had two weeks off thanks to a bye before the State League game. East Perth will play host to South Fremantle at Leederville Oval in what promises to be a fairly entertaining encounter, the Royals are on the charge with some good form in recent weeks while the Bulldogs have also played quite well, boasting a four game winning streak. West Perth are finally back at home having not played there for five weeks, taking on East Fremantle at Joondalup Arena which has dropped its commercial name for the ground. Oddly enough it was known as Arena Joondalup previously. The telecast game is back this week and we head down to Mandurah which sees Peel Thunder locking horns with Subiaco in a Grand Final rematch. Bouncedown for the game is slightly earlier at 2:10pm with coverage getting underway at 2pm on 7mate.

There's no shenanigans in the other grades this week with all games set to begin at 9am for the Colts and 11:30am for the Reserves with the exception of the Peel Thunder vs Subiaco games which will begin at 8:55am and 11:25am respectively.

The fantastic weather we're having of late it set to continue this week with a sunny Saturday predicted and a maximum of 25 degrees expected. It might be a little cool early at the grounds but it is set to be another superb day on Saturday.

After a weekend off we're back into the swing of things and hopefully as per the weekend before the general bye we can have four really hard fought and close contests. The weather is set to be great so a perfect time to get down and see some local football. Happy tipping!!

Round Seven featured some one-sided contests which proved good for tipsters but it also featured the game of the season so far between Claremont and Perth with the Demons kicking a goal with seconds left on the clock to take victory against the Tigers. Overall, most tipsters got three this week but gaskin was pretty accurate with his margin to earn the bonus point in Round Seven giving him four for the round.

That bonus point puts gaskin into a tie of the lead equal with Spanna_ and myself on 23 points while Freofalcon, Kram and Monocle are all in a tie for fourth place on 22 points.

    Round Eight Fixtures

East Perth vs Swan Districts at Leederville Oval (1:40pm, margin)
South Fremantle vs Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (2:15pm)
East Fremantle vs Peel Thunder at East Fremantle Oval (2:15pm)
Perth vs Subiaco at Lathlain Park (2:15pm)
    Bye: West Perth

Round Eight sees all four games on Saturday afternoon for the second week running after the State League fixture bye. First up sees South Fremantle back at home to battle Claremont who will be smarting from their nailbiting loss to Perth at home last week. Not too far away, East Fremantle are also back on their home turf, playing host to Peel Thunder in what looks to be a fairly enticing encounter. The last game of the round sees the Demons hosting their first home game in a month against Subiaco. The telecast match this week is arguably the game of the round with East Perth hosting Swan Districts at Leederville Oval. The Royals didn't fare too well last week against the Bulldogs and come up against a Swan Districts side boasting three weeks' rest having had a bye last week after the State League game general bye. The match will be telecast from 1:30pm on Channel Seven with an early bouncedown time of 1:40pm. This game then leads into Seven's AFL coverage later in the afternoon to be telecast on 7mate.

Once again there's not much change in the other grades with all Colts and Reserves matches to begin at the times of 9am and 11:30am respectively. The exception to this is the East Perth and Swan Districts' games with the Colts facing an early start at 8:25am while the Reserves' match gets underway at 10:55am.

The weather for Saturday isn't looking all that great with a few showers predicted but they will mostly have eased by the middle of the day. The forecast maximum is 20 at this stage, quite a bit cooler than what we've had for the last couple of weeks.

Well the coming round of fixtures look reasonable so hopefully we can see some close, high skilled games on Saturday. Here's also hoping the weather clears up in time for bouncedown on the weekend. Happy tipping!!
