Round Eight saw a range of upsets and some fairly close games with each match in the balance at some point in the last quarter. One was a pretty popular score amongst the tipping group this week with a few tipsters scoring two. andana and TJ Hendricks were the pick of the bunch in Round Eight, selecting three matches correctly with andana also getting the bonus point to finish with four points for the round.

Overall after eight rounds we still have a tie for the lead with gaskin, Spanna_ and myself all on 24 points while Freofalcon, Kram and Monocle have been joined by hansie on 23 points.

Round Nine has snuck up on us and is also the Western Australia Day long weekend. The round is set to be played over two days with two games on the Saturday and two on the Monday public holiday. The first game of the round sees Claremont back at home after their thrilling win last week to host an out of sorts Peel Thunder at Claremont Oval. This game promises to be a cracker with both clubs looking to bounce back after not having the start to the season they would have liked. We skip ahead to Monday for the final game of the round which sees the traditional Fremantle derby between South Fremantle and East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The Bulldogs will still be smarting after their loss to the Tigers while the Sharks will have renewed confidence after defeating the Thunder last week. There's also good news this weekend with two matches to be telecast with the first on Saturday as Swan Districts will battle Perth at Steel Blue Oval. The coverage begins at 2:30pm with bouncedown to follow at 2:50pm. An extended post-game will then lead into 7mate's AFL coverage in the evening. The second telecast game is on Monday with West Perth facing off with East Perth in the Perth derby up at Joondalup Arena. The telecast is on Channel Seven from 1pm with bouncedown at the earlier time of 1:10pm.

Just to make things fun, there's some changes in the other grades this week. For the Claremont vs Peel Thunder games there's no changes with the usual start times of 9am for the Colts and 11:30am for the Reserves. Swan Districts and Perth's Colts will get a sleep-in as bouncedown for that game is scheduled for 9:35am while the Reserves' match begins at 12:05pm. West Perth vs East Perth Colts' match will be played on Saturday with an 11am start while the Reserves will be up early on Monday for a 10:25am bouncedown. Finally, the Colts and Reserves games for the South Fremantle vs East Fremantle fixtures will get underway at 8:50am and 11:20am respectively.

The weather is a mixed bag for the long weekend. Saturday will be sunny and 20 degrees at this stage although the morning will be pretty cool with a minimum of six predicted. Monday could see some showers later in the day with 22 degrees predicted at the moment.

Phew, that about covers everything. Last week saw four pretty decent games so hopefully we'll see four more this coming long weekend. It's the perfect time to catch some local footy with the extra day off so get out to the games if you can as it is always a good day out there. I hope everyone has a safe and happy long weekend and don't forget, happy tipping!! :thumbsu:
