Round 19 proved pivotal for the season with a couple of sides staking their claims for the top five berth. Several tipsters had a good week this week getting all four tips correct while three proved to be the most popular score for the weekend. Freezin claimed the bonus point this week with his margin of 36 points closest to Claremont's winning margin of 46 points against Perth.

After 19 rounds, gaskin remains in the lead on 57 points with RickSanchez staying outright second with a score of 56 points. Monocle has now moved into outright third position with a score of 55 points.

Round 20 Fixtures

East Fremantle vs Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval (2:15pm)
Claremont vs Peel Thunder at Claremont Oval (2:15pm)
South Fremantle vs Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (2:15pm)
East Perth vs West Perth at Leederville Oval (3:10pm, margin)
Bye: Swan Districts

It's probably hard to believe but there are just two more rounds left of the season before finals with another big Saturday afternoon of matches upon us. Round 20 gets underway with East Fremantle hosting Subiaco at East Fremantle Oval. Not much has gone right for the Sharks this year and they'll be looking to continue playing some of their younger players against Subiaco who come into the game from their win up at Joondalup against West Perth. The remaining three games will prove to be huge in the context of the season as Claremont battle Peel Thunder in the first of those games. The Tigers boosted their hopes of a finals berth significantly after defeating Perth last week and can go very close to securing a top five spot with a win on Saturday. Peel also harbour their own finals hopes and must win to keep their finals chances in tact with their percentage inferior to the three other teams equal with them on seven wins. South Fremantle are back at home and face Perth in another big clash at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. The Bulldogs will secure a home qualifying final on Saturday if they are victorious while Perth have dropped their last couple of games and simply must win to stay in the hunt for a finals spot. The Demons beat the Bulldogs in a thriller in their last encounter so the Dees would fancy their chances of doing the same again on Saturday. The TV game is back this week and we are in for a treat with the traditional Perth derby between East Perth and West Perth taking centre stage on Saturday afternoon. This match is going to be huge as the two rivals do battle at Leederville Oval with the Royals looking to keep their spot in the top five with a win while the Falcons will be out for victory to keep their slim chances of a home qualifying final in tact. The telecast of this game is at 3pm and immediately follows Channel Seven's AFL coverage earlier in the afternoon. Bouncedown for this game is at 3:10pm with the telecast overlapping with 7mate's AFL coverage beginning at 5pm.

There's not too much movement in the other grades this week with all Colts and Reserves' games at 9am and 11:30am respectively with the exception of the East Perth vs West Perth matches. In that fixture, the Colts get a sleep in with a 9:55am start while the Reserves also begin later at 12:25pm.

The weather last weekend was great and this weekend is set to be even better with a sunny day and a maximum of 21 degrees predicted for Saturday. The morning is going to be cool with a minimum of seven degrees so you may need some warmer gear for the morning if you're up and about for the earlier matches in the day.

Well, the penultimate round is here with another big week of games coming this weekend. The weather is set to be great so hopefully we'll see some great WAFL footy in all four matches on Saturday. Happy tipping!!

Round 20 produced a range of matches but proved to be fairly easy in the end with a lot of tipsters selecting all four games correctly for the round. There was a three-way tie for the bonus point this week with RickSanchez, swannies and samFFC all choosing a margin which was one point away from West Perth's final winning margin of 18 points.

After 20 rounds, that bonus point has helped RickSanchez move into a tie for the lead with gaskin on 61 points with Monocle staying in third position on 59 points. In fourth place is masai with 58 points while rounding out the top five is myself on 57 points.

Round 21 Fixtures

East Fremantle vs South Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval (2:15pm)
Subiaco vs Perth at Leederville Oval (2:15pm)
Swan Districts vs Claremont at Steel Blue Oval (2:15pm)
Peel Thunder vs East Perth at Bendigo Bank Stadium (2:15pm, margin)
Bye: West Perth

Well it is hard to believe but we are heading into Round 21 which is the final round of the season this weekend with seven teams still able to play finals football in 2018. All matches this week are in their traditional Saturday afternoon timeslot at 2:15pm to finish the home and away season.

The first game of Round 21 is the third installment of the Fremantle derby with East Fremantle taking on South Fremantle down at Shark Park. East Fremantle have not had the year they were after, they are playing for pride in this match and would no doubt like to upset their familiar foe in the final game of the year. South Fremantle meanwhile have a finals series ahead of them and will be keen for a tune-up before their qualifying final next week. The second match of the round sees Subiaco back at home to host Perth at Leederville Oval. The Lions will be looking to keep their form going into the final round while Perth can still play finals if they win but must rely on East Perth losing and also Peel Thunder not winning by enough to overtake them on percentage. The Dees could also make finals if they win and the Royals and Thunder play out a draw. Swan Districts take on Claremont at Steel Blue Oval, the Swans' second home game in a row to finish the season. Unfortunately for Swans they can't make finals and would be disappointed with the finish to the year that they've had. They can however finish the season on a high and potentially stop the Tigers from grabbing a home elimination final with a win. Claremont however, head into the match looking for a win with the Tigers returning to the finals this year. Victory would see them host an elimination final at Claremont Oval, a place where they've been tough to beat this year. Unfortunately there is no TV game this week but the final game of the round and the year is set to be a cracker with Peel Thunder taking on East Perth down in Mandurah at Bendigo Bank Stadium. A win in this game will be huge for both sides with the Royals guaranteed a finals spot if they win while a Thunder victory would see them play finals provided Perth lose to Subiaco. The Thunder could also play finals if they have a big win over the Royals and Perth have a small victory over the Lions.

There's a bit of funny business this week with the Colts games so I'll explain what's happening. The Colts' match between Swan Districts and Claremont is as usual with a 9am bouncedown scheduled but the WAFC is going to a host a Colts' festival of football with the other three games to be played on Sunday at Subiaco Oval. East Fremantle and South Fremantle will start proceedings at 10am with Peel Thunder vs East Perth beginning at 12:30pm while Subiaco vs Perth will get underway at 3pm. The Reserves meanwhile are as normal with all matches in that grade to commence at 11:30am on Saturday.

The weather this weekend is looking good for Saturday with a sunny day expected and a maximum of 20 degrees forecast. There is a slight chance of a shower later on Saturday though however. Sunday will be cooler with 17 degrees and some showers, mostly in the morning but they should clear during the day.

Well this is it, the last round as each team looks to finish strong to either take some momentum into a finals campaign or to end the year on a high. There's still a lot to play for as the race for a finals spot reaches its peak. By Saturday we'll know which five teams have made it as they extend their season into the month of September. I hope everyone enjoys the final round and most of all, happy tipping!!
