Round Five produced a number of good games. The TV game was a see-sawing affair which saw Swan Districts get out to a reasonable lead against Subiaco only for the Lions to reel them in during the final term and post a three-goal win. East Fremantle and West Perth were neck and neck most of the day before a four goal last quarter from the Falcons saw them register their first of the win season while Perth and Claremont had a tight battle at Mineral Resources Park before the Demons prevailed to stay unbeaten during 2019.

Tipping wise most tipsters got either three or four this week but a few tipped the card on the weekend with Freofalcon, Kram, masai and Westozbb not recording a blemish in round five. samFFC picked up the bonus point selecting a margin of 20 points which was only two points off Subiaco's winning margin of 18 points.

After five rounds, Miguel Sanchez is on 20 points and leads by one from Freofalcon, Monocle and myself all tied for second on 19 points.

State League Fixture

WAFL vs SANFL at Perth Stadium (Sunday, 12pm WST, 1:30pm CST)

The WAFL takes a break this week with the state league match to take centre stage as the WAFL hosts the SANFL for what is now an annual fixture as a result of the other state leagues withdrawing from competition at the end of 2017. Last year saw the WAFL travel to Adelaide Oval to take on the SANFL, coming away victorious by 26 points. In doing so, they became the first Western Australian representative side (either State League or State of Origin) to have won in Adelaide against a South Australian side for 24 years. The WAFL has won its last six representative games having beaten the SANFL and VFL twice (both at home and away) along with the NEAFL and TSL to undoubtedly be the best state league in Australia.

This year sees the Black Swans play host to the Croweaters at Perth Stadium. Bouncedown for this game is at 12pm and will be the curtain-raiser to the Fremantle vs Richmond clash later in the afternoon. Unfortunately there is no telecast coverage of the game but you can tune in to Sport FM 91.3 who will be broadcasting the game live from 11:45am.

With the state league match taking place this Sunday, there will be no tipping this week so everyone can take the weekend off from their WAFL tipping duties. The fixtures for Round Six will be posted next Tuesday in readiness for that round's set of matches. Hopefully the WAFL can continue their good form of late in the state league fixture and post a win at Perth Stadium on Sunday!

The State League match has come and gone for 2019 with the WAFL losing to the SANFL by seven points at Perth Stadium on Sunday. The match was a tight contest in the first half with the WAFL leading by three points at quarter time and then by four at half time before the Croweaters kicked six goals to two in the third quarter to assert their ascendancy on the contest. The WAFL came storming back in the last term but booted an inaccurate 3.5 to fall short as the SANFL hung on to win.

Josh Deluca won the Simpson Medal as the WAFL's best player in the match while fellow Subiaco teammate Ben Sokol kicked four goals. Two more Subiaco players in Kyal Horsley and Hayden Kennedy had very good games along with Swan Districts' Corey Gault, Claremont's Jye Bolton and Peel Thunder's Blair Bell.

The loss breaks the WAFL's six straight State League match win streak which first began in 2013. Hopefully the Black Swans will bounce back next year when they travel to Adelaide to take on the SANFL again in the annual State League match.

Round Six Fixtures

East Perth vs West Coast Eagles at Leederville Oval (Thursday, 7:10pm)
Claremont vs Peel Thunder at Claremont Oval (Saturday 2:10pm, margin)
Perth vs West Perth at Mineral Resources Park (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Subiaco vs South Fremantle at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Swan Districts vs East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)

Back into the regular season with Round Six upon us. Round Six gets underway with a Thursday Night game as East Perth take on their former AFL alignment club West Coast Eagles, this time in a WAFL game. This will be the first meeting between the two clubs since the alignment finished at the end of 2018 and is sure to have some spice given what transpired after the end of last season. East Perth have had a tough time of it in 2019 so far and will be keen to take it up to the Eagles who have been fairly competitive so far this season. On Saturday, Perth will host West Perth in a traditional Saturday afternoon match at Mineral Resources Park. Perth are undefeated so far this season and have been very impressive, with their last match a grinding win against Claremont also at Mineral Resources Park a couple of weeks ago. West Perth started the season slowly but got their first win before the State League bye after accounting for East Fremantle and they'll be looking to continue that form here against the Demons.

Subiaco and South Fremantle meet at Leederville Oval in what should be another entertaining encounter. Like the Demons, Subiaco are undefeated so far this season but had a huge scare in the previous round against Swan Districts before a big last quarter got them home over the Swans. South Fremantle are building in 2019 and sit third with a 4-1 record and look to have covered a number of retirements last year quite well so this match shapes up to be one of the ones to watch this week. Rounding out in the week's fixtures is Swan Districts battling East Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval. Swan Districts were impressive against Subiaco in Round Five but couldn't quite get the job done as the Lions produced a big last term. Nonetheless, Swans have been reasonable in 2019 and will no doubt want to put on a show for the home fans this week. East Fremantle haven't won yet in 2019 and will be desperate to turn that around against the Swans on Saturday as they look to get their first win of the 2019 season.

The TV game this week sees us head to Claremont Oval as Claremont and Peel Thunder lock horns in a Saturday afternoon affair. Claremont have been pretty good in 2019 but will be smarting from their loss to Perth in the previous round and they'll be looking to bounce back against the Thunder. Peel Thunder sit in fifth spot but face a test against the Tigers in what also looks to be a fairly enticing match-up. The telecast for this game begins at 2pm on 7mate with bouncedown scheduled for 2:10pm. This match also leads into the AFL coverage later in the evening so you won't need to change the channel if you want to catch the game.

The Colts and Reserves matches are fairly straightforward this week. All matches for the Colts and Reserves will get underway at 9am and 11:30am on Saturday with the exception of the Claremont vs Peel Thunder games which begins five minutes earlier at 8:55am and 11:25am respectively.

The weather is looking good for the weekend although much cooler. Saturday is predicted to be sunny and 18 degrees with a minimum of just four degrees on Saturday morning! If you're up and about early, you're going to need the warmer clothing in the morning.

Well, we're back into things for the 2019 season after a weekend off and what better way to move back into the season after the bye with what looks to be five pretty good contests. Hopefully we can see some great games on the weekend on what is looking to be a sunny day. Don't forget to vote either! Happy tipping!!
