Round 18 proved to be a bit tricky with a few upsets across the fixtures this week. Most tipsters managed to score two or three but Freezin, andana and Freofalcon all managed to pick four winners for the round. Freezin was one of only a few to tip West Perth and hence scored the bonus point for being closest to the margin to finish with five points for the round.

With 18 rounds completed, Miguel Sanchez remains in the lead on 58 points with Freofalcon joining Monocle in a tie for second place on 56 points. Fourth place is also tied with gaskin and Kram on 55 points.

Round 19 Fixtures

East Perth vs West Coast Eagles at Leederville Oval (Friday, 7:10pm)
Subiaco vs West Perth at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Swan Districts vs Peel Thunder at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Perth vs East Fremantle at Mineral Resources Park (Saturday, 2:15pm)
South Fremantle vs Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (Saturday 2:35pm, margin)

Round 19 is approaching which is also the penultimate round of the season. The round begins on Friday night as East Perth host West Coast Eagles in a night match at Leederville Oval. East Perth's loss to East Fremantle last week saw their chances of finals come to an end and head into their match against the Eagles as a chance to finish the season on a high note. They'll be looking to spoil their former alignment side's run to the finals and emulate the result between the two clubs earlier in the season which saw the Royals win on a Thursday night. Expect a tough encounter with both teams not prepared to give an inch. On Saturday, Subiaco host West Perth at Leederville Oval. The Lions put the foot down in the second quarter to set up their win against Swan Districts while West Perth caused a big upset as they disposed of Claremont at Claremont Oval. A win for the Falcons would give them a strong chance of securing a home elimination final which will be a big positive for the club.

Swan Districts take on Peel Thunder At Steel Blue Oval in the second Saturday afternoon fixture. Swan Districts had one bad quarter against Subiaco last week but otherwise held their own for three quarters which will help their confidence after an upset win the week before. Swans can't make finals but a win for them would end Peel Thunder's slim finals chances if they can cause an upset on Saturday while it would also help them in the race to avoid the wooden spoon. The Thunder's finals hopes took a massive dive last week after losing to South Fremantle and they must win to stay in the finals race plus hope results go their way in the final two rounds. Perth and East Fremantle meet at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday in what is looking to be an entertaining contest. Perth won their opening five games of the season but have won just three since then and face a fight to make the finals with the Eagles snapping at their heels only a game behind them. Perth need to win to maintain their position and keep themselves in the five at the end of the round should the Eagles be victorious on Friday night. East Fremantle had a good win over East Perth last week and it's clear Bill Monaghan has turned things around gradually in his first season as the Sharks' coach. Another win here would be a positive result in what has been a season of improvement for the team based at Moss Street.

The TV game is back this week and we head to Fremantle Community Bank Oval for the Match of the Round between South Fremantle and Claremont. Souths had a comfortable win over Peel Thunder last week keeping their opponents to just 1.1 in the opening half while kicking 8.6 themselves to set up the win. Their victory coupled with Claremont's loss to West Perth saw the Bulldogs move back to second spot on the ladder, moving past the Tigers on percentage. As mentioned, Claremont lost to West Perth in Round 18 which was somewhat of a shock loss as the Falcons finished quite strongly over the Tigers, a result that few would have predicted. They'll be out to turn things around this week as the winner will go a game ahead in second place on the ladder which will be all important with a home qualifying final on the line. The telecast of this match gets underway at 2:30pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 2:35pm.

There's not much movement in the other grades this week. All Colts and Reserves' matches will begin at 9am and 11:30am respectively with the exception of the South Fremantle vs Claremont fixture which has the Colts starting at 9:20am and the Reserves at 11:50am.

After a great weekend weather wise, things aren't looking so good this week. Friday night looks set to be quite wet with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon and evening and a maximum temperature of 16 degrees. Saturday is not looking all that much better with showers expected in the morning with the chance of hail and a maximum of only 15 degrees expected at this stage. Definitely a round for wet weather gear if you're at the footy over the weekend.

Well, just two games to go and there's a bunch of good games on the horizon with clubs battling it out to make it into the finals series for 2019. Hopefully there won't be too much rain over Friday and Saturday and we can see some really good contests across the round. Happy tipping!!

5 goals in a game of footy from both sides, wow. Must have been bucketing down in Perth?

It was pretty heavy at times, Kram. The rain hit not long before the game started, had 7.8 mm in 11 minutes and close to 20 mm in an hour and a half. There was a lot of surface water at the ground along with some mud which made things tough.

Round 19 produced a few entertaining games with Swan Districts' tight win over Peel Thunder being the closest game of the round while Perth vs East Fremantle also proved to be a contest worth watching. Most tipsters managed to score three or four for the round but RickSanchez, hansie and getgaff all went one better and tipped a perfect round this week in scoring five points. Westozbb won the bonus point this week being just one point off the margin to also finish with five points for the round.

With 19 rounds completed, Miguel Sanchez remains in the lead on 61 points with a three way tie behind him for second place between Freofalcon, Kram and Monocle all on 59 points.

Round 20 Fixtures

West Perth vs South Fremantle at Joondalup Arena (Saturday 1:45pm, margin)
Peel Thunder vs Perth at David Grays Arena (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Claremont vs Swan Districts at Claremont Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)
East Perth vs Subiaco at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:15pm)
East Fremantle vs West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park (Sunday, 2:15pm)

So it all comes down to this. Round 20, the final round of the home and away season is here with three clubs locked into this year's finals series and another three looking to grab one of the two remaining spots in the top five. We've got a full compliment of games to finish the season too, with the round split over Saturday and Sunday.

One game that a lot of people will have their eye on, is the match between Peel Thunder and Perth down at David Grays Arena on Saturday afternoon. Perth find themselves in fifth position with one round to go and have not played finals in 22 years with their last finals appearance in 1997. This is a huge game for the Demons, a chance to put themselves into a finals series for the first time in two decades and a chance for them to perhaps score a home final as well if things go their way in the final round. I think a lot of people will want the Demons to get up on Saturday and many will keep tabs on the game as the match progresses. Peel Thunder are out of finals contention but a win for them would see them end the season on a high note and something to take into the beginning of next season. Claremont host Swan Districts at Claremont Oval also on Saturday. The Tigers have wobbled a bit in the last couple of weeks, losing to West Perth and South Fremantle quite comfortably and they'll be out to reverse their fortunes on the weekend against Swans. Claremont also need to win and hope South Fremantle lose their match in order to secure a home qualifying final which will give them added incentive coming into the match. Swan Districts meanwhile won last week with a tight win over Peel Thunder and another win here could potentially see them avoid the wooden spoon if some other results fall their way. Expect a tough game here as both teams go into the game looking for a win to finish the home and away season.

It's a battle of the co-tenants as East Perth meet Subiaco at Leederville Oval in the final game on Saturday afternoon. East Perth kicked just one goal against West Coast Eagles last week in a match played in very wet conditions and enter the game playing for pride but also hoping to avoid the wooden spoon. They can avoid the spoon with a win and they will no doubt give it their best against their co-tenant Subiaco who notched a strong win over West Perth last week. The Lions will be looking for a tune-up before the finals at Leederville Oval on Sunday afternoon with a finals series ahead of them and a week off in the first week of the finals. On Sunday afternoon, East Fremantle play against West Coast Eagles at Mineral Resources Park. East Fremantle sold their home game to the Eagles a few weeks and enter this game in eighth position, percentage ahead of East Perth and a game in front of Swan Districts. A loss coupled with some unfavourable results could see the Sharks claim the spoon and that is something they'll be looking to avoid in their final game of the season. West Coast Eagles are playing for a finals berth and simply must beat the Sharks and hope one of West Perth or Perth lose on Saturday to have a chance of finishing inside the top five. Expect a good contest here as both sides look to have a crack on Sunday.

Despite being the last round for the season, there's no TV game this week (as least at this stage anyway) so I've selected the West Perth vs South Fremantle match at Joondalup Arena as the margin match this week. After a strong win over Claremont in Round 18, West Perth were no match for Subiaco last week, losing by 70 points. The Falcons' heavy loss saw their percentage drop considerably and they now find themselves having to win on Saturday to guarantee a finals spot for 2019. A loss could see them miss the top five would be a tough result for the club after displaying some great form in the middle of the season to work their way back into the top five. South Fremantle meanwhile sit in second spot and come into this match with good form, having won their last two matches which included a strong win over Claremont last week. A win for Souths guarantees them a home qualifying final so they'll need no more incentive than that to ensure they've got a home final in week one of the finals series. This match is also the early game on Saturday and begins at 1:45pm.

There's a fair bit of movement in the other grades this week. Each of the Reserves' match are at 11:30am on Saturday with the exception of the West Perth vs South Fremantle game which begins at 10:30am. The Colts however have been moved around with the West Perth vs South Fremantle and Peel Thunder vs Perth fixtures to take place at Mineral Resources Park at 10:30am and 1pm respectively. On Sunday, East Perth and Subiaco will do battle at Leederville Oval at 10:30am with the match between Claremont and Swan Districts to take place at the same venue immediately afterwards at 1pm.

The weather this weekend is looking a lot better with both Saturday and Sunday expected to be partly cloudy and maximums of 17 and 18 degrees respectively at this stage. The mornings will be cool too so you'll need some warmer gear if you're around for the earlier matches over the weekend.

Well, just one round to go now as we head into the final game of the home and away season for 2019. It's now or never for some clubs with finals chances still on the line while the remaining sides are either looking to fine tune their games before finals or simply grab a win in the final round before the off-season begins. Hopefully we can see a great last round to finish the season and some good games over the weekend. Happy tipping!!
