Round Nine produced one of the greatest final rounds in the WAFL for a long time with four clubs jostling for the final two places in the top four this year. That soon became three clubs fighting for fourth place as West Perth got well in front of Subiaco, eventually defeating the reigning premiers and with East Perth thrashing Peel Thunder, that saw the Royals jump into fourth spot momentarily with Subiaco dropping to fifth place. However, Perth had other ideas and after a very tight game all day and some nervous moments in the last term, the Demons eventually got themselves in front and stayed there to knock off the previously undefeated South Fremantle to leap into fourth place and their first finals series in 23 years.

From a tipping perspective, no-one managed to tip all four games correctly with scores of two and three scattered across the tipping group this week. Freofalcon secured the bonus point for the final round, selecting a margin of 23 points which was closest to Swan Districts' winning margin of 31 points and that saw Freofalcon finish with a tally of four points for the round.

With all nine rounds complete, that brings us to the end of the 2020 WAFL Tipping Competition and we rather miraculously have a five way tie for first place this year with gaskin, Magnum27, RickSanchez, Spanna_ and myself all tied on 29 points to finish the season. All five tipsters have generally been in the top handful for most of the year so it was somewhat fitting that all five ended up as the joint winners for this season in what has been a hotly contested competition. Congratulations to our winners this year and each of you have won a 12 month Platinum subscription to BigFooty for your efforts so well done guys. All this thanks to Chief and the team here at BigFooty.

Well that concludes the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition for 2020. Thanks to everyone for participating again this year, we've got a loyal group of guys who participate each year and it's great to see a competition like this going each season so thank you for your continued support. Thanks once again to Chief and the team here at BigFooty for their ongoing support of the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition, their assistance has been fantastic and to have them support this competition and show their generosity has been a great help so thank you once more. The home and away season has finished but I will be running a competition for the finals series for fun over the coming three weeks so look out for my post on either Wednesday or Thursday evening as we gear up for another exciting finals series. Hopefully next season we will be able to tip for a full season of the WAFL in 2021 with a bigger and better competition for WA's premier football competition. Don't forget to also stick around in the off-season for all of your off-season news, player movements, pre-season information and other club news from around the WAFL as we head into the summer months after the season has finished.

Cheers!! :thumbsu:

The home and away rounds have come to an end and that means the finals are here with all games in week one to be played on Sunday. This year the finals series is taking place over three weeks with four teams in each grade qualifying for the finals. As is tradition for the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition, we will be tipping across all three grades each week and with a bonus point up for grabs this week, that sees a total of seven points available for the first week of the finals in 2020.

The League finals start with the big Second Semi Final between South Fremantle and Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 2:30pm. Both clubs have had excellent seasons so far, South Fremantle went through most of the season undefeated before falling to Perth in the final round by just five points to finish the home and away rounds with a 7-1 record. The Bulldogs were generally fairly dominant in most games and finished the season with a percentage of 166.57% and conceding well under 50 points per game demonstrating the strength they had during the season. Claremont too had a good start to the year but a couple of losses in the midway point of the season saw them drop out of the top two before a good win over West Perth put them in second spot with a round to play although the Tigers faced a nervous wait having the bye in the last round. The chase for second spot was fairly tight on the final day of the regular season but the Tigers just managed to claim second spot by 0.24%. Had West Perth kicked another two points, the Tigers would have finished the season in third place on the ladder. Both these two clubs have played in some tight games in recent times and I'd expect this to be no different with both sides fairly evenly matched in what is shaping up to be a huge game, the winner earns a week off and will play in the Grand Final in a fortnight's time while the loser has to front up next week in a Preliminary Final. Expect a fierce contest here with both the Bulldogs and the Tigers to go hammer and tongs at it on Sunday afternoon.

The First Semi Final and the TV game this week sees West Perth hosting Perth at Provident Financial Oval in Joondalup. West Perth had a solid 2020, spending most of the season in the top two but slipped to third late in the season after a loss to Claremont in the penultimate round of the season. The Falcons had a big chance to grab second and it looked like they would until they faded late in the final round to miss out on second place by just 0.24%. Nonetheless, the Falcons have had a good season to date and will be out to put on a show at home on Sunday. Meeting the Falcons on Sunday is Perth, a club who are playing their first finals series in 23 years and would arguably be the competition's sentimental choice going into the 2020 finals series. It has been a long time since Perth last played in the finals and after a near miss last year and some nervous moments this year, particularly against South Fremantle in the final round of the season, the Demons stamped their finals ticket, much to the joy of the club and its supporters. This game will be a big test for the Demons who have not beaten West Perth for some time but come into the game with momentum and as mentioned, will no doubt be the neutral's choice this year. This game will be a big one with no tomorrow for the loser while the victorious side moves through to a Preliminary Final next week. The telecast of this match gets underway at 1:30pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 1:35pm.

In the Reserves, East Perth will face Subiaco at Provident Financial Oval at 11am in the Second Semi Final. East Perth's reserves have not lost a game all season having won all seven of their fixtures so far and boast a percentage of over 160%. Subiaco have won five of their seven games and enter the match with three straight wins so this game is sure to be a good one. The First Semi Final is the reverse of the League's Second Semi Final with Claremont to take on South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 12pm. Claremont won three straight games to finish the season in booking their finals berth while Souths managed to hold their spot in the four despite dropping their final two matches. This match is sure to be a tight one and should prove to be an ideal curtainraiser to the League game later in the day.

In the Colts, Claremont take on Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 9:30am. Both clubs have been the form teams of the competition, having won four of their last five games and boast percentages of over 175%. Expect this game to be a big contest with both clubs looking to secure a Grand Final berth in two weeks' time. The First Semi Final has West Perth hosting East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 8:30am. West Perth won five of their first six matches but dropped two of their last three games to fall out of the top two. The Falcons have shown good form during the season though and will be looking to come out firing against the Sharks who secured their top four berth with a win over Swan Districts in the final round which was their third win in four games.

The weather has been really good over the past few days but it set to take a turn on the weekend with a shower or two forecast for Sunday with a maximum of 17 degrees. Their does remain the chance of a thunderstorm and some hail with winds to be gusty in the morning before beginning to ease during the day. Certainly a day for the jacket and pants for those keen to see some finals footy on Sunday.

Well, the finals are here with some great games to come across the grades. Hopefully the weather isn't too bad on Sunday and we can see some tough, fierce finals football to see who will go straight through to the Grand Final and which clubs will meet in the Preliminary Final next week. It's sure to be a good weekend nonetheless though! Happy tipping!!

The Semi Finals proved to be tricky round to tip for the tipping group this week with scores of between two and four thanks to a couple of upsets across the grades. A trio of posters posted a score of four for the round but andana went one better, nailing the bonus point in selecting the exact winning margin of 11 points to finish with five points for the round.

After the first week of finals, andana has the lead on five points while Monocle and getgaff have a share of second place with four points apiece.

Finals Tipping Competition - Week Two Fixtures

League: South Fremantle vs West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (3:35pm, margin)
Reserves: Subiaco vs Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (1pm, neutral venue)
Colts: Subiaco vs East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (10:25am, neutral venue)

It's week two of the finals series with the preliminary finals to be held this Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on the Queen's Birthday long weekend. South Fremantle and West Perth meet in the League preliminary final in what is shaping up to a great game. Souths spent all season on top of the ladder but were below their best last week in the second semi final against Claremont, kicking just three goals in what was a disappointing result for the club and one they'll be keen to make amends for on their home turf. West Perth played a seesawing game against Perth in the first semi final and despite kicking into a stiff breeze in the last term, the Falcons managed to kick the final three goals of the game to claim victory and move through to week two of the finals series. The previous meeting between these two clubs this season saw the Bulldogs claim a tight win in a low scoring affair by eight points at Provident Financial Oval in a match where barely a goal separated the two sides for most of the day. This match is shaping up to be another cracker with both clubs to put it all on the line to claim the last spot in the 2020 Grand Final. The telecast of this game gets underway at 3:30pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 3:35pm.

The Reserves' match between Subiaco and Claremont begins at 1pm on Sunday. Subiaco finished the season in second place on the ladder but lost to East Perth in the second semi final last week so they'll be keen to rectify that and have a second crack at the Royals in the decider next week. Claremont overcame South Fremantle in the first semi final, beginning slowly before seven goals in the second half saw the Tigers get home with a relatively comfortable win and ear them a preliminary final berth.

In the Colts, Subiaco will battle against East Fremantle at 10:25am. Subiaco faced Claremont in the second semi final last week, the match was relatively even for most of the day before three goals to two in the last quarter saw Claremont come away with the win. The Lions have looked fairly good all season though and will no doubt want to have another chance against the Tigers next Sunday. East Fremantle meanwhile had to win three of their last four games to make the finals and then caused a big upset, knocking off West Perth in the first semi final last week as the Falcons kicked a wasteful 3.14 (32) putting an end to their season.

The weather is looking sort of okay for Sunday with a shower or two expected and a predicted maximum of 21 degrees. The chance of rain is 60% at this stage with a maximum of 1mm expected so there shouldn't be much rain about if it does indeed rain during the match.

No more second chances from here as we enter the penultimate week of the season. The winners on Sunday head through to the Grand Final next week while the losers will commence the off-season so there is plenty of play for here with the chance at a premiership so close. All three games are promising to be great matches so hopefully we'll see the rain keep away in order to see some high quality football this weekend. I hope everyone has a great long weekend and happy tipping!!
