Round 19 proved to be mostly straightforward although one upset tripped up most of the tipping group this week. A number of tipsters managed to register a score of three in Round 19 but andana and Freezin managed to score a perfect round after tipping East Fremantle, finishing with a score of four each. The bonus point this week went gaskin who predicted a one-sided contest in the TV game and this ended up coming to fruition with gaskin's prediction of 76 points only five points off the actual margin of 71 points.

Despite all of the our leaders scoring two points for the round, there's no change at the top of the leaderboard with getgaff still leading the way on 61 points, Falconista has a hold of second place on 59 points while samFFC is third on 58 points.

Round 20 Fixtures

East Perth vs East Fremantle at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Peel Thunder vs West Coast Eagles at David Grays Arena (Saturday, 2:10pm)
West Perth vs South Fremantle at Provident Financial Oval (Sunday 1:10pm, margin)
Bye: Claremont, Perth, Subiaco, Swan Districts

Round 20 is here with three games this week, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. The first of the Saturday games is the battle of the "Easts" with East Perth taking on East Fremantle at Leederville Oval. East Perth went into Round 19 with a slim chance of finals and needed to beat Swan Districts to keep their season alive for another week. A poor start proved costly for the Royals as Swans kicked six goals to one in the opening term to burst out of the blocks with the margin hovering around the five to seven goal mark for the rest of the match. The Royals eventually finished 41 points in arrears of their opponents, ending their finals chances. East Fremantle meanwhile caused a big upset, knocking off ladder leader Subiaco, which included a run of 12 consecutive goals against the Lions to claim a 44 point victory. That win saw the Sharks rise to sixth on the ladder, displacing the Royals who had previously held the position. Both these clubs have played some reasonable football at times this season and I believe this contest has a lot of promise on Saturday with both sides fairly evenly matched.

The last of the Saturday games is the clash of the AFL Reserves/aligned clubs being Peel Thunder and West Coast Eagles at David Grays Arena in Mandurah. Peel Thunder had the bye last week but their previous performance in Round 18 was ordinary, copping a 52 point flogging from Swan Districts in what has been a fairly disappointing season for the Thunder. After a week's rest, they take on the West Coast Eagles who were just as ordinary last week after West Perth handed them a 71 point belting. The Eagles had kicked just 1.3 (9) in three quarters against the Falcons last week before breaking even with the Falcons in the last term to finish with a total of 5.5 (35) at full time. Last time out, Peel Thunder were too good for the Eagles but I expect a closer contest this time around with both clubs affected by injuries to their AFL affiliates and similar form lines.

The TV game this round and therefore our margin match is the game on Sunday between West Perth and South Fremantle at Provident Financial Oval. West Perth cruised to a fairly easy win last week, knocking off the West Coast Eagles' WAFL side by 71 points on Sunday which included conceding just one goal to three quarter time to get them back onto the winners' list for the round. South Fremantle enjoyed a bye last round but proved to be far too good for East Fremantle in their most recent encounter, winning their 12th straight Fremantle derby over the Sharks. This match is huge in terms of the season, West Perth come into this game having won 10 of their last 11 games and a win could propel them to as high as second place should they be able to beat the Bulldogs by a big enough margin. Souths meanwhile could find themselves on top of the ladder with two games to play should they win well against the Falcons and give themselves a chance of earning a week off in the first week of the finals series. This game begins earlier on Sunday at 1:10pm with Channel Seven's coverage beginning at 1pm.

There's not much action in the Colts and Reserves this week with only a few games taking place. In the Reserves, East Perth meet East Fremantle at 11:40am on Saturday while West Perth host South Fremantle at 10:40am on Sunday. In the Colts, there's just the one game with West Perth taking on South Fremantle at 8:10am.

The last few days has seen some great weather in Perth, very much spring like since Friday. That's all due to change tomorrow and should extend for the next few days, Saturday should see a few showers with a maximum of 18 degrees while Sunday will be partly cloudy with 18 degrees also and the slight chance of a shower.

Three good games this week and you'd think that all should be relatively close games given the evenness in ladder positions between the combatants this weekend. The match on Sunday looks to be the pick of the bunch and will go a long way to shaping the make-up on the top five this week. Happy tipping!!

Round 20 produced some ripping games with all three decided by six points or less and a total margin across the three games being just 10 points. Tipping a winner proved to be fairly tricky over the weekend with a variety of scores although hansie, AsterixTheGaul and Monocle all tipped the card this week with a score of three. The bonus point was claimed by samFFC whose margin of six points was spot on this week giving him a total of two points for the round.

After 20 rounds, getgaff has extended his lead to three points with a total of 63 while samFFC joins Falconista for a tie of second place on 60 points.

Round 21 Fixtures

Peel Thunder vs Perth at David Grays Arena (12:40pm)
East Perth vs Subiaco at Leederville Oval (2:10pm)
East Fremantle vs West Perth at New Choice Homes Park (2:10pm)
South Fremantle vs Swan Districts at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (2:10pm, margin)
Claremont vs West Coast Eagles at Revo Fitness Stadium (2:10pm)

In case you missed it, the WAFL has announced that the 2021 WAFL Grand Final will be on Saturday, 2 October 2021 at Perth Stadium with bouncedown for the League game at 3:20pm. The Reserves' Grand Final will begin the day at 9:20am while the Colts' match starts at 12:10pm. Discounted tickets are available at Ticketmaster right up until Friday, 1 October 2021 so get in early if you're keen to attend the match on the day.

Round 21 sees a full round of fixtures this week with all games on Saturday afternoon. Peel Thunder host Perth in an early game to begin the round at David Grays Arena in Mandurah. Both clubs haven't had the best of seasons, sitting in eighth and ninth place respectively heading into the round. Peel Thunder staged a big comeback last week against West Coast Eagles, finding themselves more than six goals down at half time. The Thunder sprung into action in the second half, kicking eight goals to two and snatching victory by two points despite some errant goal kicking. Perth had a bye last week but their previous fixture saw them give Claremont a bit of a scare kicking five goals in the last term to storm home but fell just short by eight points at the final siren. Both the Thunder and Demons haven't had the seasons they would have liked but will be keen to finish the season on a strong note and this game should be a good one on Saturday.

The Leederville Oval co-tenants do battle in our next match with East Perth taking on Subiaco in the first of the 2:10pm fixtures. East Perth battled East Fremantle last week and got off to a good start but an ordinary third term saw them concede seven goals to the Sharks which saw them slip to a 21 point deficit at the last change. The Royals fought back in the last term though booting six goals which got them to within two points but that's as close as they got as the Sharks posted a two point win. Subiaco had a bye last week but also faced East Fremantle in their most recent fixture which saw the Lions enjoy a good lead early only for the Sharks to kick 12 consecutive goals to race to a seven goal lead which Old Easts maintained for the rest of the day. After coming off the bye, Subiaco will be looking to rebound and consolidate top spot on the ladder while this match is East Perth's final game of the season so they'll be out to finish 2021 with victory. The previous fixture between both clubs was a rather entertaining affair in the opening round so I expect another good game here with Leederville Oval bragging rights on the line.

East Fremantle host West Perth at New Choices Homes Park in the round's next fixture. East Fremantle enter this game as one of the competition's form sides having won three of their last four games to move to sixth on the ladder and last week saw them hold off East Perth for their second straight win after kicking seven goals in the third term against the Royals to set up the win. West Perth had their issues against South Fremantle on Sunday but came back from 26 points down to topple the Bulldogs with a six point victory, pushing themselves into third place on the ladder. East Fremantle have a bye next round so this game looms as their last match of the season and victory here would wrap up sixth place on the ladder plus give them a lot of confidence heading into the off-season. West Perth though will have other ideas with a top two spot up for grabs if they can win with other results falling their way so expect a good match up here between two teams in pretty good form of late.

Claremont face West Coast Eagles at Revo Fitness Stadium in the round's final match on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers enjoyed a bye last week with their last match being a close contest against Perth who threatened to take the game away from the Tigers with a five goal last term but Claremont held on to claim an eight point win, their eleventh of the season. West Coast Eagles started their game against Peel Thunder strongly last week and held a better than six goal lead at half time only for the Thunder to charge home in the second half to take out a two point victory, leaving the Eagles searching for their fifth win of the season. There's plenty to play for here for the Tigers, they sit fourth on percentage at the moment and a big win could see them overtake their opponents on percentage while the Eagles will be hoping to cause an upset and get off the bottom of the ladder.

Unfortunately there is no TV game this week thanks to the two afternoon AFL finals over the weekend so the margin game this week is the fixture between South Fremantle and Swan Districts at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. South Fremantle led for much of their game against West Perth on Sunday and at one stage held a 26 point lead over the Falcons in the early part of the third term only for their opponents to boot seven goals to two from midway through the third quarter to eventually claim a tense six point victory. Swan Districts had a bye in the last round but proved to be too good for East Perth in the previous round, posting a solid 44 point win to secure a finals berth. Both clubs have a lot to play for in this game, Souths face a tough fight for second place with two of their rivals behind them on just percentage while Swan Districts can still claim the double chance if they can win their remaining two games with some other results going their way. Expect a big game here in what is the competition's match of the round on Saturday afternoon.

There are some minor changes in the Reserves and Colts this week. All Reserves' games begin at 11:40am with the exception of the Peel Thunder vs Perth match which has a start time of 10:10am. In the Colts, it's a 9:10am start for all games aside from the Peel Thunder vs Perth game which will be played on Friday night at 7pm.

The weather for Saturday is looking pretty reasonable with a partly cloudy day and a maximum of 19 degrees predicted at this stage.

Two rounds to go and things are really heating up with the top five separated by just two games. Certainly lots to play for this week in the season's penultimate round and we'll know a lot more about who'll finish where once Round 21 is complete. Happy tipping!!
