Round Five proved to be fairly predictable tipping wise with the good portion of the group selecting four winners this week. Falconista went one better, selecting all five winners to be the top tipster this week while gaskin claimed the bonus point which also gave him a score of five for the round.

With five rounds completed, there's a five way tie for the lead now between Falconista, gaskin, Magnum27, RickSanchez and Westozbb on 16 points.

Round Six Fixtures

Subiaco vs Claremont at Leederville Oval (2:10pm)
Perth vs Peel Thunder at Mineral Resources Park (2:10pm)
West Perth vs Swan Districts at Provident Financial Oval (2:10pm)
South Fremantle vs East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (2:10pm, margin)
East Fremantle vs West Coast Eagles at New Choice Homes Park (2:10pm)

Onto Round Six with all five games on Saturday this week and all at the same time as well at 2:10pm. At this stage, matches are set to go ahead despite the second mini-cluster of COVID-19 cases with a decision on crowds to be made later in the week when the government provides an update on the current restrictions in place.

The first match of Round Six is the battle of the western suburbs with Subiaco hosting Claremont at Leederville Oval. Subiaco started the better side last week against South Fremantle but a sluggish second term put the Lions behind the eight ball and despite winning the second half, the Bulldogs handed Subiaco their first loss of the season by 18 points. Meanwhile, Claremont faced West Perth and after an even first term, the Tigers proved too good for the Falcons, kicking 11 goals to two in the middle two quarters to run away with the game keeping Claremont as the only undefeated side in the competition. Both sides enter this game with good form and have played a number of great games in recent years, this match is looking no different as both clubs look set to duke it out on Saturday afternoon.

Next up sees Perth back at home to face Peel Thunder at Mineral Resources Park. Perth surprised a few last week with an upset win over East Fremantle which helped get their season back on track after consecutive losses and give the Demons some renewed confidence. Their opponent is Peel Thunder who were far too good for West Coast Eagles' WAFL side on Sunday, claiming victory by 79 points, backing up their 105 point victory against East Perth in Round Two. The Thunder come into this game off good form but with Fremantle now playing an away game against Brisbane in the AFL and another one the week after, they may need to take additional players on the road which could affect the Thunder side on Saturday. Nonetheless, this game should be a beauty in my opinion and I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being a very close contest.

West Perth play host to Swan Districts at Provident Financial Oval in Joondalup in the round's third fixture of the day. West Perth took up to Claremont until quarter time but were outplayed after that, kicking only two goals across the second and third quarters in what was a tough day for the Falcons which saw them slip to 1-3 from four games. Swan Districts burst out of the blocks against East Perth last week, kicking six goals to none which proved to be the difference in the game as East Perth were the better side after quarter time but couldn't make the most of their opportunities in front of goal. This game has plenty on the line in this early part of the season, West Perth will not want to go 1-4, particularly at home while Swans can really set up their season with victory over the Falcons. Expect a tough contest here with both sides having plenty to play for on Saturday.

East Fremantle take on West Coast Eagles at New Choice Homes Park in the final fixture of the round. The Sharks suffered what was a disappointing loss on Saturday, dropping their match to Perth, one which they entered the game as firm favourites. East Fremantle started the game slowly with scoring being an issue all day as they could only muster six goals for the game which Perth had by quarter time in what was a blistering start. In the end, it was a performance the Sharks will be looking to make amends for against a West Coast Eagles side who were handed a heavy defeat by Peel Thunder in Round Five. The Eagles had only nine AFL listed players on the park on Sunday which didn't help their cause and they may have around the same figure again this week, perhaps even less with their AFL side potentially playing back-to-back away games. Despite that, both clubs will be fighting hard for the win and if the Eagles can get a few troops back, they may cause some issues for the Sharks on Saturday.

The TV game this week which is also our margin match is the fixture between South Fremantle and East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday afternoon. Souths handed Subiaco their first loss last week after a seven goal second quarter helped set up the contest despite a goalless last quarter. With Subiaco and Claremont playing each other this week, a win could sees Souths move into the top three, perhaps the top two if things fall their way in the other games. East Perth had a slow start against Swan Districts but worked their way back into the contest before dominating the third quarter but kicked a wayward 2.10 for the term which proved costly in the end. The Royals have yet to win a game and will be desperate to break their duck this week and get their season going against the reigning premiers. Bouncedown of this match is at 2:10pm with Channel Seven's coverage getting underway at 2pm. This game also leads into Seven's AFL coverage on 7mate which begins in the late afternoon.

In the Reserves this week, there's no changes with all games set to begin at 11:40am. However, there is some change in the Colts, West Perth vs Swan Districts is at 9:30am while Perth hosts Peel Thunder in a twilight game at 5pm. On Sunday, there's a double header at Leederville Oval with Subiaco hosting Claremont at 10:30am with South Fremantle to take on East Perth at 1pm.

The weather this weekend is looking pretty reasonable with both Saturday and Sunday expected to be partly cloudy at this stage with maximums of 22 degrees on both days.

Well, we await the latest advice from the government this week regarding crowds but all games are set to go ahead at this stage. I expect that some small crowds may be allowed on Saturday but we'll have to wait and see later in the week for the official word. Hopefully we will see some footy played on the weekend with both days looking pretty good at this stage. Happy tipping!!

Round Six was somewhat tricky from a tipping point of view with a couple of games providing some unexpected results. The TV game ended up being a beauty which was again another surprise result while the match between West Perth and Swan Districts was also a great game as well. A few tipsters selected four winners this week while samFFC and andana shared the bonus point for the round, both selecting a margin of 22 points which proved to the closest out of all the tipsters this week.

With six rounds complete, Falconista remains in the lead and has been joined by samFFC and also Westozbb on 20 points with a trio of tipsters in gaskin, Magnum27 and RickSanchez in a tie for fourth place on 19 points.

State League Fixture

SANFL vs WAFL at Adelaide Oval (Saturday 2:05pm WST, 3:35pm CST)

After a hiatus in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the state league game is back this year with the WAFL to face the SANFL in what will be an annual fixture with the other states/leagues having withdrawn from such matches. 2019 saw the SANFL travel to Perth Stadium to take on the WAFL, the match was a tight contest until half time before the SANFL kicked six goals to two in the third term to break away only for the WAFL to fight back in the last term but some inaccurate kicking saw the Croweaters claim victory by seven points.

This year sees the WAFL travel to Adelaide Oval to battle the SANFL in what is going to be a hotly contested match and one which will no doubt be highly anticipated along with attracting interest from AFL recruiters. Bouncedown for this match is at 2:05pm WST on Saturday afternoon with the match being played as a twilight game as the curtainraiser to the Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs AFL fixture. Coverage for this match will be broadcast on SEN WA and also live streamed at theadvertiser.com.au. The final team should be announced on Thursday evening and you can find the squad at this link, https://www.wafootball.com.au/news/20383/wafl-announce-kia-australia-wa-state-squad.

With the state league match there will be no tipping this week so everyone can have a week off from their WAFL tipping duties. The WAFL is set to recommence with Round Seven on Saturday, 22 May and matches will posted up for tipping on the Tuesday before the round. I hope everyone has a great weekend and go the mighty Black Swans!!
