Round 18 proved to be a bit easier than the previous week with a few tipsters managing a perfect round while there were a few scores of two or three amongst them as well. The margin this week was claimed by getgaff who was just one point off the actual winning margin and saw him post a score of five for the round.

With 18 rounds completed, getgaff remains in first place on 59 points, holding a two point lead over Falconista who is now outright second on 57 points. In third place is samFFC with a total of 56 points.

Round 19 Fixtures

Subiaco vs East Fremantle at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Swan Districts vs East Perth at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Perth vs Claremont at Mineral Resources Park (Saturday, 2:10pm)
West Perth vs West Coast Eagles at Provident Financial Oval (Sunday 11:40am, margin)
Bye: Peel Thunder, South Fremantle

Round 19 is just around the corner with four games this week, split over Saturday and Sunday. Subiaco face East Fremantle in the first of the round's fixtures with a Saturday afternoon clash at Leederville Oval. Subiaco started slowly last week which has been somewhat of a theme this season and found themselves 35 points down against Claremont in the second term only to fight back through the remainder of the game and eventually close the margin to within a kick late in the last quarter. Ben Sokol kicked his sixth goal to put the Lions in front late before they held on to win a thrilling game by five points. East Fremantle faced arch rival South Fremantle in the Fremantle derby last week, the Sharks did well for a half but Souths were the stronger team in the third and final quarters to claim a 61 point victory, their 12th in a row against Old Easts which knocked the Sharks out of the finals race. Both clubs have had differing seasons but still have plenty to play for, Subiaco will be aiming to consolidate top spot on the ladder while East Fremantle will be aiming to avoid the wooden spoon as it holds a one game plus percentage buffer over the ninth and tenth place teams on the ladder currently.

Next up has Swan Districts hosting Perth at Steel Blue Oval. Swan Districts came up against Peel Thunder in Round 18 and were the better side for most of the day as they gradually increased their lead at every change before a six goal to two last term sealed a strong 52 point win. Swan Districts face East Perth who got the better of Perth in what proved to be an arm wrestle for most of the day before the Royals grabbed another crucial win, their third in four games and kept themselves in the finals race. East Perth are the only club outside the top five that can still play finals so victory here against Swans would keep their finals hopes in tact for another week while Swan Districts can make sure the current top five all play finals with victory over the Royals on the weekend.

The last of the Saturday afternoon games has Perth taking Claremont at Mineral Resources Park. Perth travelled to Leederville Oval last week to play East Perth and found themselves in the game for most of the day but an inability to kick a score proved to be an issue with the Demonsbooting an inaccurate 5.11 (41) to fall to the Royals by 25 points, ending their chances of a repeat finals appearance. The Demons come up against Claremont who looked the goods early on against Subiaco in Round 18, holding a 35 point lead during the second term only for the Lions to reel them in during the remainder of the game. A late goal for the Lions sealed victory as Claremont went down by just five points come the final siren, seeing them remain in third place. Claremont now find themselves a game and percentage behind second placed South Fremantle so will be hoping to get one back on the Bulldogs who have the bye this week and keep pressure on them for a top two finish.

The TV game is back this week after a three round hiatus due to the Olympics and this week's telecast game (and therefore our margin match) is Sunday's fixture between West Perth and West Coast Eagles at Provident Financial Oval in Joondalup. Both teams had the bye last week but had differing fortunes in Round 17 as the Falcons started slowly against Subiaco, finding themselves down 33-0 against the Lions who proved too difficult to reel in despite an improved effort in the second, third and final quarters. West Coast Eagles meanwhile scored a strong 56 point win over Perth, inching them closer to moving off the bottom of the ladder which they could do this week if they win and other results fall their way. With the Eagles' improved form in the second half of the season and West Perth's good form over the last three months, I expect this game should prove to be a good one with both sides playing well of late despite the lack of parity in their ladder positions. This game was supposed to be at 2:10pm on Sunday but with the Western Derby moved to Sunday afternoon, this match is now on at 11:40am with the telecast beginning at 11:30am on Channel Seven and leads into the AFL coverage in the afternoon.

This week's Reserves and Colts' games are all on Saturday with all matches beginning at 11:40am in the Reserves and 9:10am in the Colts with the exception of the Swan Districts vs East Perth fixtures. The Colts' game in this fixture starts at 8:55am while the Reserves' bouncedown is at 11:25am.

The weather has not been great of late as has been the case for some time now and Saturday isn't looking promising again with showers expected and a maximum of 18 degrees. 3-10mm of rain could fall on Saturday so it might prove to be a little wet that day. Sunday however is looking better with partly cloudy conditions and only a slight 30% chance of rain with 18 degrees predicted. Any rain expected shouldn't be more than 0.4mm so not much at all if we do indeed get any rain that day.

The second of the redrawn bye rounds is here with some good matchups again this week and ones that will go some way to potentially shaping the top five. Hopefully the weather will stay away on both days and we can see some dry weather matches across the weekend. Happy tipping!!
