The first week of the finals produced some great games, particularly in the League with both matches decided by under a kick, one of which was after the siren. The top score this week was five by a few tipsters with scores ranging from three to five overall. The bonus point this week was claimed by me with my prediction of seven points closest to the actual winning margin of four points.

With one week of finals complete, the leader is myself on six points with a group of tipsters tied for second place with a score of five points.

Week Two of the finals series see us progress to the semi finals with matches split again between Saturday and Sunday. Both League matches are being televised so you'll need to submit margins for both League games this week.

The Second Semi Final commences proceedings in the League with Subiaco hosting South Fremantle at Leederville Oval on Saturday afternoon. Subiaco finished on top of the ladder in Season 2021 with a 14-4 record having played some impressive football at times during the year which included winning six of their last seven matches and finishing with a percentage of 128.37%. This was, thanks in part to Subiaco having the competition's best defence, conceding on average just 62.67 points per game. South Fremantle though didn't finish too far behind the Lions, claiming a 13-5 record and a slightly higher percentage of 129.86% with the Bulldogs having the competition's second best attack in the competition, kicking an average of 85.28 points per game. Having finished second, the Doggies faced up to Claremont last week in the Qualifying Final and found themselves trailing all day aside from the last few minutes of the game. Claremont had a shot after the siren to take back the lead but missed handing Souths a one point win. Both Subiaco and South Fremantle have met on a number of occasions in finals over the best part of the last two decades and have played some great games in that time with this one also shaping up to be another classic. Channel Seven's coverage of this match gets underway at 2:30pm with bouncedown scheduled for 2:40pm.

The First Semi Final sees Claremont taking on West Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium in Claremont on Sunday afternoon. Claremont took on South Fremantle last week and began the game well, racing to a four goal lead at half time before the Bulldogs reeled in the Tigers during the third term to cut the margin to four points at the final change. The last term was a nailbiter with Souths taking the lead late in the game only for Claremont to have a chance to win the game with a kick after the siren. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the shot missed which gave Souths a thrilling one point victory and consigned the Tigers to hosting the First Semi Final. West Perth hosted Swan Districts last week in the Elimination Final and had their hands full with the Swans up for the fight. The Falcons trailed for most of the day before storming to the lead in the last term only for Swans to take it back late in the final quarter. However, a late goal for the Falcons at the 32 minute mark saw them regain the lead which they held until the final siren to seal a four point win. Both clubs have played some great finals over the years and this game looks as if it'll be another good one too on Sunday afternoon. Coverage of this game gets underway at 2pm on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 2:10pm.

In The Reserves, the Second Semi Final has Claremont taking on Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium on Sunday at 11:30am. Claremont have dominated the Reserves competition this year, having won 15 games and lost only one for the season culminating in a big percentage of 170.88% which saw them finish four games clear of second placed Swan Districts. That's not who the Tigers are playing this weekend though with Perth winning their way through after finishing in third place having knocked over Swans in the Qualifying Final last week. The Demons charged home from almost three goals down at the last change to kick five goals to one in the last term to seal an upset win. The First Semi Final sees Swan Districts facing Subiaco, Swans finished the season in second place and were looking good in the Qualifying Final last week having held a 16 point advantage at three quarter time against Perth. However, Swans gave up five goals in the last term while kicking only one, losing by 11 points. Subiaco won their way through to the First Semi Final after registering a comfortable win over West Perth having kicked five goals to one in the opening term, one each in the next two quarters before a further three in the last stanza sealed the result. Oddly, West Perth kicked 1.1 in each quarter during the game as the Lions won by 44 points. The match between Swan Districts and Subiaco will be played at Leederville Oval on Saturday at 12pm.

In the Colts, Swan Districts take on Claremont in the Second Semi Final on Sunday at Revo Fitness Stadium starting at 8:50am. Swan Districts were the team to beat in the 2021 Colts competition, racking up 15 wins and losing just one game with a percentage of 191.61%. Swans had the bye last week thanks to finishing on top of the ladder and will be well rested against their opponent, Claremont. The Tigers also have a good record for the year with 11 wins and four losses and proved to be too good for East Perth in the Qualifying Final last week with a 41 point win. These two sides met in the last round of the year with the match proving to be quite close so expect another good game here in this one. The First Semi Final is on Saturday between East Perth and East Fremantle at Leederville Oval, beginning at 9:20am. East Perth came up against Claremont last week and couldn't stay with the Tigers in the last term and they went goalless (0.5) while the Tigers booted 4.5. The Royals will be out to make amends this week, hosting East Fremantle who had a sound win over West Perth, keeping the Falcons to just three goals for the match while kicking 7.13. The Sharks enter this game with some pretty good form, storming into the finals series so this match is sure to be a top notch fixture as the first game on Saturday.

The weather this weekend is looking okay of sorts with a shower or two expected on both Saturday and Sunday with a medium chance of showers predicted on each day. Saturday should see a maximum of 20 degrees with any showers to be in the afternoon and evening while Sunday's showers should mostly be earlier in the day with a maximum of 21 degrees.

Well the Semi Finals are here with this week to determine one of the this year's Grand Final combatants while we'll also see another contender drop out of the running as well. There's some great games about this week and hopefully the weather will stay away on both Saturday and Sunday for what looks to be a cracking weekend of footy. Happy tipping!!

Week two of the finals proved to be fairly tricky tipping wise with a number of upsets in the Reserves and Colts' semi finals playing havoc with the tipping group this week. Freezin and gaskin were the top tipsters on the weekend with a score of four each while Freezin and andana secured the bonus point for the League games for week two of the finals series.

After the Semi Final weekend, andana, Freezin and gaskin all have a share of the lead on nine points with myself in outright fourth place on eight points.

Finals Tipping Competition - Week Three Fixtures

League: South Fremantle vs Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (2:40pm, margin)
Reserves: Claremont vs Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (12pm, neutral venue)
Colts: Swan Districts vs East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (9:20am, neutral venue)

Week three of the finals series has arrived with the preliminary finals across all three grades to be played on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval which is also the Queen's Birthday long weekend.

South Fremantle host Claremont in the League preliminary final on Sunday which is the final fixture for the day. Souths took on Subiaco in the Second Semi Final last week and were below their best in the first half, kicking just one goal and going scoreless in the second quarter, a gap which stretched to 40 points early in the third term. That sparked the Bulldogs into action though as they fought back to close Subiaco's margin to just 17 points late in the third stanza before the Lions steadied during the final quarter to register a 22 point win. Claremont had their hands full last week against West Perth in the First Semi Final and found themselves trailing for a good portion of the contest before finding themselves 25 points in arrears midway through the third quarter after a slow start to the term. The Tigers then turned the contest on its head to kick nine of the last 10 goals, taking the lead early in the last quarter before finishing with a four goal victory. Both South Fremantle and Claremont have played some fantastic games in recent years, including some this season with their last two matches being decided by a solitary point each and this game is shaping up to be another cracking match. Channel Seven's telecast begins at 2:30pm with bouncedown scheduled for 2:40pm.

In the Reserves, Claremont face Subiaco for the second straight season in the Reserves' Preliminary Final with bouncedown set for 12pm. Claremont finished the season on top of the ladder with a 15-1 record and hosted Perth in the Second Semi Final with the match proving to be a classic. The Tigers and Demons were neck and neck most of the day with the margin not exceeding 12 points between the two clubs for the entirety of the match. A very late mark and goal by Perth's Jack Richardson at almost the 29 minute mark saw the Demons kick the go ahead goal before sealing the win in a huge upset. The Tigers' opponent on Sunday is Subiaco who caused another upset of their own, knocking off second placed Swan Districts in the First Semi Final. Subiaco dominated the contest in the opening half but kicked 6.9 to Swans' 5.3 before the margin was reduced to just one straight kick at the final change as Swans stormed back with a strong third quarter. Subiaco then kicked 4.0 in the final term to come away with the win and setup a match with Claremont on Sunday.

In the Colts, Swan Districts take on East Fremantle in the day's first game with the match to begin at 9:20am. Swan Districts lost just one game during the home and away season, boasting a 15-1 record and came up against the Tigers in the Second Semi Final, the Swans lead by four points at quarter time but were the better side in the second term to hold a 15 point lead at half time. The third term was a tight tussle as Swan's margin was cut back by one point as they lead by 14 points at last change after both sides kick four goals in the third stanza. However, Swans kicked 1.2 in the last term while Claremont dominated, kicking 4.7 to win through to the Grand Final. East Fremantle came up against East Perth in the First Semi Final last week with the match proving to be a tough slog. Just seven goals were kicked in the opening three quarters as the Royals held a narrow three point lead at the final change before the Sharks kicked four goals in the last term to claim a 17 point victory and send themselves through to a second straight preliminary final.

The weather this week is looking less settled with a few showers predicted for Sunday and a maximum of 20 degrees. About 2-6mm is expected so hopefully there won't be too much rain on Sunday although it is looking like it will linger for a good portion of the day.

With week three of the finals here, there's no more second chances as we gear up for the business end of the finals series. One team will find themselves into a Grand Final while it'll be season over for the losing sides after the completion of Sunday's matches. There's some good games about this week so hopefully the weather will keep away on Sunday so we can see some great games of footy. Happy tipping!!
