Round Five proved to be a fairly straightforward one with a number tipsters tipping the card this week while there were also a number of scores of four as well. The bonus point this week went to getgaff who was spot on with his margin of 14 points in the Subiaco vs Swan Districts match which gives him a total of six points for the round.

With five rounds complete, Monocle and andana have joined Freezin for an equal share of the lead on 16 points with another group of posters tied for fourth place with 15 points.

Round Six Fixtures

Peel Thunder vs Claremont at Lane Group Stadium (11:40am, margin)
East Perth vs West Coast Eagles at Leederville Oval (1:30pm)
East Fremantle vs Subiaco at WACA (2:10pm)
West Perth vs Perth at Pentanet Stadium (2:10pm)
Swan Districts vs South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval (2:10pm)

Round Six has a full allotment of five fixtures this week all on Saturday with an early game plus four afternoon matches. East Perth take on their former alignment partner in the West Coast Eagles in an earlier starting Saturday afternoon fixture at Leederville Oval. East Perth took on Claremont last week and started well, kicking three goals while holding the Tigers goalless in the opening term. However, that's where the good news finished for the Royals as the Tigers kicked seven goals in the second term to the Royals' one while the second half saw Claremont add another seven goals to East Perth's tally of three with East Perth registering a 47 point defeat. They face an Eagles' side which didn't fare any better in Round Five with another injury affected team travelling to Joondalup to tackle West Perth. The Eagles had another slow start, kicking one goal in the opening quarter to the Falcons' 5.5 before adding another 1.0 in the second quarter and going scoreless in the third term while West Perth kicked another six goals. The last term was better for the Eagles, kicking four goals but West Perth booted another six as the Eagles lost by 81 points with their percentage falling to 40.14%. The Eagles are set to be boosted by several players returning from injury so will be hoping to add a more competitive effort this week in search of their first victory of the season.

East Fremantle host Subiaco in the first of three 2:10pm matches on Saturday afternoon at the WACA which should be the first football game at the venue since 2000. The Sharks took on Perth last week in what was an entertaining affair with the match relatively even across the first three quarters although the Sharks should have found themselves further in front, kicking an errant 9.16 to the Demons' 9.9. Old Easts ran away with the game in the last term, kicking four goals to one ensuring a win which keeps them in the top two. The Sharks' opponent on Saturday is Subiaco who played host to Swan Districts last weekend in Kalgoorlie. Swans had the advantage in the opening term before Subiaco hit back in the second stanza to trail by just a point at half time before Swan Districts turned the tables again with four goals to one to give them a handy 20 point advantage at three quarter time. However, Subiaco weren't done with yet, kicking five goals in a hurry while holding Swans scoreless in the final term to run out 14 point winners. East Fremantle have been in good form so far in the first five games and with Subiaco look to be getting things together after a slow start to the season, this game will be one to watch on Saturday which is also the first game at the WACA in more than two decades.

West Perth take on Perth in the round's next fixture at Pentanet Stadium in Joondalup. West Perth proved to be too strong for the West Coast Eagles' WAFL side last week with Tyler Keitel kicking 5.5 as the Falcons extended their lead at every change to claim an 81 point victory with their percentage boost pushing them to the top of the ladder at the expense of East Fremantle. Coincidentally, Perth played East Fremantle in the previous round and took it up to the Sharks with their first three quarters mostly matching Old Easts although they were helped by East Fremantle's wayward kicking for goal. Unfortunately for the Demons, they kicked one goal in the last term to the Sharks' four which resulted in a 26 point defeat. There's lots to play for here for both sides with the Falcons looking to stay on top of the ladder while the Demons needs a win to keep within reach of the top five.

The final Saturday afternoon game in Round Six has Swan Districts tackling South Fremantle at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean. Swans travelled east to Kalgoorlie to take on Subiaco and did well in the opening term with 5.2 before Subiaco fought back to cut Swans' lead to a point at half time. Swan Districts fired back in the third term with four goals giving them a very handy 20 point at the final change. However, Subiaco dominated the last quarter, holding Swans scoreless while matching the Swans' opening term with 5.2 to hand Swan Districts a 14 point defeat. South Fremantle meanwhile played host to Peel Thunder last Saturday in what was shaping up to be one of the best matches of the round with the Thunder getting back several AFL listed players. Despite the ins for the Thunder, the Dogs asserted themselves from the outset and were the better side for most of the day and extended their lead modestly through the first three terms to lead by 29 points at the final change. Peel won the last term but could only do so by three points as the Dogs claimed a 26 point win and snapped a two game losing streak. This game should be an alright one I would think, Swans have been okay so far this season while the Bulldogs have looked good at times during the season so an interesting game awaits on Saturday.

The TV game this week and therefore our margin match for Round Six is the fixture between Peel Thunder and Claremont at Lane Group Stadium in Mandurah on Saturday morning. Peel Thunder had a number of ins last week with several AFL listed players returning to the side and looked like they could trouble the Dogs on their home turf. The Dogs however had other ideas and were the better side over the first three terms and increased their lead in each quarter over the Thunder who found themselves close to five goals in arrears at three quarter time. To their credit, the Thunder won the last term but finished 26 points down on the Doggies at full time. Claremont meanwhile started slowly last week against East Perth, going goalless in the opening quarter before blitzing the Royals in the next term, booting seven goals with another seven following in the second half handing the Tigers a very handy 47 point win which helped consolidate third place on the ladder. The telecast of this game gets underway at 11:30am on Channel Seven with bouncedown scheduled for 11:40am. This match also leads into Seven's AFL coverage on Seven and 7mate later in the afternoon and evening in what will be a busy day of footy on TV.

There's not too much movement in the Reserves and Colts this week. All Reserves' fixtures begin at 11:40am with the exception of the Peel Thunder vs Claremont game which starts at 9:10am. In the Colts, there are three games at 9:10am on Saturday while the Peel Thunder vs Claremont fixture will take place on Friday night at 7:20pm.

The last couple of days has seen a quite a lot of rainfall but Saturday is looking pretty good with a mostly sunny day expected with a maximum of 21 degrees. At this stage there is a slight chance of a shower but any showers that do fall will be very light and there won't be much rain.

Round Six looks full of promise with several good games to be played this coming weekend. There are also a number of clubs on two wins and they will be hoping to break into or be closer to the top five come the end of the round. Another good day of WAFL footy awaits and hopefully we'll see some great games on Saturday. Happy tipping!!

Round Six produced another solid round of fixtures with a few close games over the weekend. There was quite a range in the scores this week with the tipping group getting between two and four correct. AsterixTheGaul, Freezin and masai tu were the best performed tipsters this week with four each while Freezin was the only tipster to select Peel Thunder and scored the bonus point to finish with five points for the round.

After six rounds, Freezin takes the outright lead on 21 points, leading by two with andana, AsterixTheGaul and Monocle all tied for second on 19 points.

Round Seven Fixtures

Subiaco vs Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Claremont vs Perth at Revo Fitness Stadium (Saturday, 2:10pm)
Swan Districts vs West Coast Eagles at Steel Blue Oval (Saturday, 2:10pm)
West Perth vs East Perth at Pentanet Stadium (Monday, 2:10pm)
South Fremantle vs East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval (Monday 2:40pm, margin)

Round Seven is approaching us this weekend which is also the Western Australia Day long weekend. This week sees a full allotment of five fixtures with three games on Saturday afternoon and two in the afternoon on the Monday public holiday.

The round begins with Subiaco taking on Peel Thunder at Leederville Oval in the first of the Saturday afternoon fixtures. Subiaco travelled to the WACA last week to play against East Fremantle and didn't fare so well against the Sharks who had the better of the contest for most of the day and were helped by Subiaco's kicking at goal which saw them boot 2.9 in the opening three quarters while the Sharks kicked 9.8 in the same period. Both sides kicked 4.1 in the last term as Subiaco lost by 44 points, ending their two game winning streak. The Lions face up to Peel Thunder who were impressive in a 22 point win over Claremont down in Mandurah. The Thunder began the game a little slowly but were the better side after quarter time kicking eight goals to one to break the game right open. Claremont fought back in the last term but two late goals to the Thunder sealed the win and kept them in touch with the top five. This game looms as a big one for both clubs with either side still outside the top five at the moment and looking to get close to or break back into the top half of the ladder.

Claremont hosts Perth in the next game of Round Seven down at Revo Fitness Stadium in Claremont. The Tigers began well in their trip to Mandurah last week to face Peel Thunder and held a nine point lead at quarter time which could have been more with the Tigers having a fair amount of play in the term. However, Peel Thunder fought back and held the Tigers to one goal across the next two terms leaving them some 35 points in arrears at the final change. Claremont came back at the Thunder with four goals but two late goals to Peel handed the Tigers a 22 point loss. Perth came up against West Perth in Round Six and were heavily affected by COVID-19 with several Colts' players having to step up into the senior grades on the weekend. After not scoring in the first term, Perth found themselves in front at half time, having booted 4.4 for the term before kicking just a solitary behind in the third stanza to trail by 11 points at three quarter time. However, the Demons fired again to level the scores at the 23 minute mark of the last quarter before a late goal to West Perth saw the Demons fall by six points in a gallant effort. Perth will be hoping to regain a few players this week across the grades to assist in their challenge of the Tigers this week.

The last of the Saturday afternoon games sees Swan Districts facing West Coast Eagles at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean. Swans caused a big upset on Saturday, knocking over South Fremantle in what was an impressive effort. Sam Fisher had 31 disposals for Swans as they led at every change and withstood several charges from the Bulldogs to post their third win of the season and pushing them to within percentage of the top five. West Coast Eagles travelled to Leederville Oval last week to take on East Perth in another match missing a number of AFL listed players. The Eagles did have a reasonable first term but conceding eight goals to none in the second quarter proved pivotal as the Royals opened up a 52 point lead at the main break. The Eagles did hit back in the third term with four goals but didn't score in the last term as they went down by 78 points. The Eagles may get back some AFL listed players this week with others to play more game time so they'll be hopeful of taking it up to Swan Districts on Saturday.

West Perth face off against East Perth in the traditional Monday afternoon Perth derby at Pentanet Stadium in Joondalup. West Perth were also at home last week as they took on a Perth outfit who had a number of players unavailable with COVID-19. West Perth kept Perth scoreless in the opening term but found themselves three points in arrears at half time with the Demons' kicking 4.4 to the Falcons' 1.2. West Perth fought back in the third term to take an 11 point lead at the final change after keeping Perth goalless but the Demons' charged again, levelling the scores in time on during the last quarter. Mitch Dobson's goal at the 28 minute mark gave the Falcons back the lead by six points which they held to claim a close win. East Perth also won in the last game out, defeating the West Coast Eagles WAFL side by 78 points. The Royals did most of their work in the second term, kicking 8.0 to 0.1 to go into the main break with a 52 point lead. The third term was a tussle between the two sides before the Royals broke away again with 4.5 to 0.0 in the final term to snap a three game losing streak. This game is shaping up to a great contest and with both sides inside the top five, this match is sure to be hotly contested on Monday.

The final game of the round and also our margin match this week is the traditional Monday afternoon Fremantle derby between South Fremantle and East Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval. South Fremantle were upset last week by Swan Districts with Swans getting off to a better start and answering each challenge thrown the Bulldogs throughout the day despite the Dogs having 11 more inside 50's. Souths did threaten Swans late in the day but fell short by nine points in what was a pretty entertaining affair. The Bulldogs take on East Fremantle who find themselves on top of the WAFL ladder having beaten Subiaco by 44 points in Round Six in the first football game at the WACA for more than 20 years and close to 30 years since the last WAFL match took place at the venue. Old Easts have looked good so far this season and this match shapes as one of the biggest Fremantle derbies for some time with both clubs inside the top three, something which has not happened for some time. This game will hopefully be a great one on Monday with the game also being the telecast fixture with Channel Seven's coverage starting at 2:30pm on 7mate with bouncedown scheduled for 2:40pm.

There's not too much movement in the Reserves and Colts this week. All Reserves' game begin at 11:40am aside from the South Fremantle vs East Fremantle fixture which begins at 11am. The Colts is the same with all matches at 9:10am while the South Fremantle vs East Fremantle match starts at 8:30am.

The weather for the long weekend is looking pretty good with no rain expected at all across the three days. Saturday is forecast to be partly cloudy with an expected maximum of 18 degrees while Monday will also be partly cloudy with a temperature forecast of 20 degrees.

Some good games await in Round Seven, particularly the two derbies on the Monday with all four of those clubs inside the top five at the moment. The weather is looking good too so it'll be a great weekend for footy and also getting out and about too on what is sure to be a good long weekend. Happy tipping!!
