Season 2022 has finished with Grand Final Day producing three extremely good games at Leederville Oval on what proved to be a fantastic day for football played in sunny, warm conditions.

The Reserves' Grand Final began the day with West Perth playing the first of three matches with their opponent in this game being Subiaco. The Lions started the much better of the two sides, booting 4.0 in the opening term while keeping West Perth scoreless with the Falcons repeatedly turning the ball over in all parts of the ground, particularly in defence which saw them concede multiple goals. The Falcons then smartened up in the second term to turn the tables, kicking 5.2 to Subiaco's 1.1 which saw West Perth hold a one point advantage at half time. Both sides managed a goal in the third term as scores were level at the final break to set up a grandstand finish for the last term. Both teams traded behinds early before West Perth kicked another behind to get in front while Subiaco responded with a goal midway through the last term courtesy of Jordan Faraone to lead by five points. Three minutes later saw the Falcons kick a goal to get the lead back only to see Subiaco level the scores thanks to a behind. Jake South's second goal at the 19 and a half minute mark saw Subiaco take the lead by six points and they would remain in front of the rest of the game as the siren sounded with Subiaco claiming the Reserves' premiership by six points. The win ensured Subiaco captured their 19th Reserves' flag and their first in this grade since 2018. Lachlan Vanirsen claimed the Merv McIntosh Medal for best player afield with 27 disposals, seven marks and eight tackles. Vanirsen also claimed Best on Ground honours in the Colts' Grand Final two years ago and backed it up with the Reserves' medal on Saturday.

The Colts' Grand Final was up next with West Perth taking on Peel Thunder in a late morning bouncedown. West Perth began well with two quick goals but Peel Thunder took control of the contest from there with six straight goals to take a 30 point lead before a late goal to the Falcons saw the margin stand at four goals at half time. Neither side seemed to take their chances in the third term with the clubs trading a pair of behinds early before West Perth followed up with another two to again narrow the margin slightly. A goal just at almost the 19 and a half minute mark gave the Falcons some hope as they went into the last change down by 15 points. An early goal to Peel saw the margin eventually reach 23 points at the eight minute mark but the Falcons kicked into gear, booting the next two goals to close the gap to 14 points entering time on after several Peel misses at goal. Another goal to West Perth cut the margin to eight points before a mark at the 28 minute mark saw the Falcons line up for goal, they kicked truly but the siren sounded seconds later as Peel secured victory by two points. The win was Peel Thunder's third premiership in the Colts and their first in this grade since 2005. Peel ruckman Jackson Broadbent won the Mel Whinnen Medal for best on ground with 17 disposals, 23 hit outs and four marks in what was a good display from the potential AFL draftee.

The main event followed next with the League Grand Final taking place between West Perth and Claremont. Both teams spent the early part of the game testing each other out with multiple misses at goal courtesy of a tricky breeze at the venue which made goal kicking difficult for most of the day. West Perth broke the shackles first with Corey Rundle kicking two goals in under 90 seconds while Mitch Dobson kicked a late goal at the 25 and three quarter minute mark to give West Perth a handy 15 point lead at the first change. Claremont managed just five behinds in the first term but poor field kicking saw them waste multiple chances, both in front of goal but also in general play from turnovers. The second term proved much the same as the first, a real arm wrestle as West Perth kicked the only two scores early, a pair of behinds. Claremont responded with back-to-back goals to get on the board only for Joseph Hinder to respond with a goal to restore the Falcons' lead to 11 points. Oliver Sheldrick nabbed a goal late for the Tigers at almost the 17 minute mark but West Perth answered again to see the lead back out to nine points at half time.

The Falcons' tall timber came to the fore in the third term with Tyler Keitel and ex-Claremont forward Anton Hamp kicking goals to give the Falcons a 22 point lead early in the piece. Claremont came back via a goal to Bailey Rogers but two more goals to West Perth had the Tigers on the canvas, down by 27 points entering time on in the third term. Claremont had other ideas though and began to dominate general play, kicking two goals themselves to slash the margin to 14 points at the last change. The last term started brightly for the Tigers as Jack Buller kicked his first goal inside the opening minute while Cameron England's second goal of the game got the Tigers to within a point at the nine and a half minute mark. But that's as close as Claremont would get with the remainder of the term proving to be another arm wrestle before Mitch Dobson's soccer off the ground at almost the 24 minute mark of the contest proving decisive and that saw the Falcons home by 12 points and hand them their 20th League premiership, their first for nine years. Luke Meadows claimed the Simpson for best afield with 20 disposals and six tackles in a solid midfield display.

From a tipping point of view, scores ranged from one to three on the day with Freezin and andana both selecting all three games correctly while getgaff and Monocle claimed the bonus points in the two margin matches boosting them both to a score of three for the round.

With the finals now finished, the winner of the BigFooty WAFL Finals Tipping Competition is Freezin who has claimed victory on 13 points, one ahead of getgaff and myself who finished tied on 13 points in second place. Congratulations to Freezin on winning the finals tipping competition this year, a fantastic effort and well done also to getgaff on his second place finish as well.

Well, that concludes the BigFooty WAFL Tipping Competition and finals tipping competition for 2022. Thank you once again to everyone who has participated in the competition this year and I hope you have enjoyed tipping throughout the season in 2022. Are we having a comp this season?

I'm happy to have a competition but I am not in the best position to run it at this stage. I could potentially run it but will be more of a round summary compared to previous round writeups.

I'm happy if someone wants to help run the competition or take ownership of it for this year.
