great to see we have players really pressing for selection.
hope that these boys not getting a good crack at afl this year really try get on the track during preseason and show their work.

if we can masten, koby and swift really having good preseasons it will make next year's selections interesting.

on a side note: surely JON has to be let go. another disappointing game. as much as id love a fairytale, surely doesnt hold his spot next year.

Swift is tall and a strong overhead mark.

I wonder if he did gain some strength whether he could become a solid option up forward?
would have thought his small shoulders indicate he has no capacity to build a KP body to play in those positions.

JON seems to have gone backwards on last years form, I know he's been injured but he hasn't shown anything since he's been back. Ah well nothing lost as we used our last pick in the rookie draft on him

I think JON will get another year. Has been injured this year but has shown glimpses of what he can do since being back.

From the eagles website regarding his game on the weekend.

"Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls started reasonably well for East Perth against Subiaco, before copping a heavy knock to the hip which impeded his ability to play at his optimum in the second half. "

I would say he was our FF a while back when we didn't have the options
you mean like when we had either lynch, kennedy, wilson or hansen playing? we always had options.

u r a genius, a weak player with no body nor goal sense or a 6" midget as a permanent FF. you should get a coaching job because your ideas certainly are out there.

I didn't get a chance to see the game, but gee Lycett is impressive.
Seems to be getting 2 goals and 15 hitouts a game which is exactly what you want from a backup ruck, and 9 tackles is just a cherry on the cake. Think we have a gem there.

Exactly
I think we are adequately prepared for when Cox retires
Likewise with Mitch Brown, we are prepared for when Glass retires

If Brown doesn't improve a shitload we'll be screwed when Glass retires. Would like another KPP backman tbh, just for security.
I don't think so.
Mackenzie is very good defensively and he will presumably move to FB when Glass retires. Brown is at least serviceable at the moment, and his form in 2009 was more than serviceable when he had a good run with injuries and had games to establish himself.
He was thrown around a lot last year and got injured just as he started to regain form down back.
Just remember that similar things were being said of Schofield before this year and early in the season, and his critics have certainly been silenced.
Regardless I don't think the position of CHB is very significant these days. Adam Hunter was no star defensively (see Scott Lucas) and we still got by.
Probably do need some more depth in key defenders but I hardly think it's a significant concern. Someone like a Blayne Wilson could potentially play in a Dale Morris type role anyway.
Wouldn't mind having a crack at Pears if someone like Smith, Stevens or Gaff were to jump ship.

EMac is our Glass replacement, so it's a battle of Schofield Vs Brown for CHB and Schofield is doing a better job then Brown at the moment. With time I wouldn't be surprised to see Blayne Wilson pushing for the 3rd tall defender spot as well so Brown might be in trouble down the track.

KPP's generally improve a lot with more responsibility you'll find. He's got talent so I'm not too concerned, just needs a bit of continuity.

Otherwise, Jordan Lockyer looks like he might be our first pick this draft.

Swift2forwardline would be a terrible waste of talent tbh.

Not to mention I think he'd be a woeful forward. He was drafted for his inside work in the clinches, he's had limited chance to show this at AFL level since 2009.

agree. Sure when you look at swifts height and his testing for vertical leap you would think he could almost be KPF material but when you watch him play you realise he's just a tall inside mid (like mundy)

Teams with two dangerous key forwards would still tear us up, though. Melbourne are far from that and still our backline looked shaky on Sunday.

Brown certainly has potential, but at this stage he loses too many one on one contests for mine and is a bit of a turnover merchant on the rebound. Could still be a very good CHB, but I'd like some insurance in the form of another solid KP backman.

We should just grab a solid one cheap out of the WAFL/VFL.

This, this, a million times this. I think he should be included this week somewhere. I know there's no room, but he needs chances.

So you don't think he could play as a defensive HFF, especially if we lose Ebert?

Yeah but what teams have that?

Brisbane did with Brown and Bradshaw.

Hawthorn do with Buddy and Roughead.

There aren't too many other teams with two real good key forwards.

I agree with the looked shaky part though. It was a bit of a shambles.

I think the need exists for us to recruit another KPD onto our main list but I'm skeptical of spending our first rounder on one over the next two years. McKenzie, Brown an Schofield lack the experience of Glass but they are enough to hold us in some form or another when Glass retires at the end of 2012/ 13.

I'd pursue more midfield depth, forward talent to add to our forward potency and efficiency when swinging into attack. Fast forward flanker/ midfielder, genuine senior listed crummer and fast midfielders that use the ball well.

That Mason guy in the paper yesterday a chance of slipping to us in this years draft?

whole thing was about key position. HFF isnt a key position. and no, he has no goal sense. a defensive forward needs to do more than just tackle. still needs to kick goals. he has no goal sense.
