How did ____ go on the weekend?

We look cooked now. Very heavy legs out there. Would be a shame if it blew out as it was a competitive game for three quarters.

Alot of positives from Grego, Livingston, Champion, Allan (as a mid) and Johnston. Petch a clinic in front of goals. I never like our defense at WAFL level. Always looks incredibly disorganised. Think it's a product of top ups not defending oppo ball movement.

We still have midfield issues at both AFL and WAFL level. We must have the least recognised midfielders on our list compared to any other team in AFL.

A lot to like overall.

Probably still 2-3 mids worth to pick up. Taking Gross, Hall and Davis from the team has definitely made the task for the WAFL boys harder.

49 points not a great reflection on the day for me. Just got poured on late by a proper WAFL program.

Petch 5, our best. Have to reward it, even if we’ve been down this path.

HJ is sick. Get him in, for Hunt on a wing if we have to.

Bo’s not ready yet but worked hard and got involved plenty in the second half once they moved him into the middle, just needs to work on disposal. I get the concept, because once he starts sprinting with the ball it is game changing, but just make him a mid not a dashing HBF. Quicker path to AFL footy as a mid in our team, he’s not yet better than our suddenly quite stocked small-mid defender ranks.

Flynn an AFL ruck playing WAFL. Far too good. Will get another crack soon enough. Livingstone faded second half but showed plenty early. Both had two goals.

Shanahan a jet. Really happy with the depth at KPF, looks like the latest good option there.

Champion too quiet to call up but so slick when the ball is around, just a clean and smart player.

This team could really be something with a few more pieces added, particularly in the guts.

How did Bazzo and Barnett go

Livingstone can do damage at wafl level as a forward but he doesn't have a future there at afl level, particularly on our list. His best hope is as a nank style ruckman. Frustrating seeing flynn absolutely bullying it today after what he threw up rd1.

How did Bazzo and Barnett go
Commentators liked Bazzo’s game more than I did. He was fine, can’t recall any horrible low points, but just played an ok KPD game in a team that gave up 20 goals.

Needs minutes, not really sure where he fits against the likes of Ginbey/Hough and clearly last in line behind Gov/HEd/Brock. A good month or so and he could come back in, but a month of games like that and he won’t break through into our AFL side.

Barnett was again unremarkable down back, aside from one horrible brain fade where he refused to rush a ball uncontested from 1m out (didn’t know whether it would be a free or not). Ended up getting tackled and the Sharks scored a soccer goal from 1m out a second after the ensuing throw in.

Given how comfortable Livingstone (and Flynn, obviously) looked in the ruck, I think he’ll just be an unremarkable toiler in defence for a while.

He was against a bloke that is a 196cm and played reserves most of last year so he bloody should bully him.

When Yeo, Hewett, Hutchinson and Chesser are back it will pad out the team a bit more.
It will be a third of the season is gone and there will probably other injures and suspensions.

This is why they needed to get two mature mids signed to the WAFL side, they can train with the AFL boys and with the hope they might get selected in the MSD.

That lineup today with two or three mids who are third best at other clubs would have led to a cracking finish. That or one additional signing who is a genuine top tier WAFL option (though they likely wouldn’t come to the Beagles for obvious reasons)

It’s really disappointing the way they failed to replace the Ruscoe types from a list that was also terrible last year.

The early quality and sheer number of kids we’ve picked up over the last couple of years is starting to pay some dividends, but they’ll only take you so far when the list is still more than half top ups.

It's hard in some ways to judge the defenders today because the top ups just don't put enough pressure on up the ground. Too many times EF just ran the ball from HB to HF with little pressure.
They also get sucked into the contest too easily so EF had numbers outside the contest almost the entire day.

With what looks like another high turnover, we will likely be younger again. Sheed and the 20-24yo who haven’t worked out likely to be gone and more kids in. It’s a must to have some ready to go mids next year. Parfitt, Brew, Hardie, Brodie types.

Agreed, the margin is too thin with the current approach. Even just add Sheed to the mix there. But too unlikely that the seniors are so perfectly healthy through the midfield that we can have a senior playing WAFL, so go and recruit some bloody players.
