How did ____ go on the weekend?

Why not consult the Alesana Player Video Database.

Ryan Maric is a 20 year old, playing his first season in defence. Ever. Not to say he hasn't got a huge amount of work to do. But given how far back he's coming from, he's actually doing surprisingly well.

That said, McCarthy's arrival will put some heat on him.... which is not the worst thing in the world. Maric has 10cm on McCarthy, but McCarthy looks to have good pace and excellent skills. Maybe there's a place for both of them in the side. But if we assume our back six has two KPD (Brock and Edwards), Ginbey as a third-tall, and maybe Duggan, Baker or Cole as a small/mid defender... that doesn't leave many places.
I'm still big on Maric, but suggesting he couldnt benefit from some time jn the wafl working on some things while we make space for another of our young players who arguably deserves a spot too isnt wrong

When you consider where he's coming from.... an overweight amateur playing country football, to a professional footballer in the starting-22... it's pretty impressive, and easy to forget how young he is. I don't like the idea of him being out of the side, but I completely agree.... there should be no shame in a young player spending time in the WAFL developing his craft.

Agree, but really wonder how much development of craft occurs in the Beagles - with average top up players and no senior AFL players.

Unfortunately, we can’t really afford to drop (m)any senior AFL players to bolster them. (Yes I can hear the howls at that statement.)

Ideally, if we didn’t have injuries to so many seniors then we could rationalise dropping a couple so that the Beagles could provide more development for Hall, Grego, Shanahan, Allan, HJ, Champion etc.

maric is a bit of soft ****. Lack balls and any form of physicality and in danger of turning into another Rotham later down the line.

At this stage don’t reallu know what his role will be. His kicking is good but for every 2-3 good kicks he’ll have 2 unforced miss kicks and then a few more turnovers trying too much. I’ve had the view of just backing him in the seniors in hope he gets good but he just doesn’t show any improvement with his kicking and his defensive efforts are flatbout a liability. Perhaps just dropping him and making him work his way into the seniors just might be the wake up call.

I havent forgotten how young he is or where hes coming from lol. I was suggesting swapping him for Bazzo who is 21 lmao, we cant fit 3 talls + Maric + Ginbey into our backline

Had 13 listed players take the field against Swans - 9 of them 1st or 2nd year players aged 20 or less though plus Chesser playing his first game for the year and McCarthy who had been in the state for two days

Not sure if there’s any injuries from either game but hopefully this week Petruccelle and Bailey Williams are cleared to play. Might have Newton available if he’s over the minor quad he had plus Jamieson perhaps who was listed as 1-2 weeks in the last injury report

Could give us as many as 16-17 available for WAFL this week for the match against Perth

Anyone had eyes on Max Rohr for Claremont’s ressies?

Dude has been improving very, very rapidly. Just had a 22 touch, 40 hitout, 7 tackle and 2 goal game.

Claremont have a tight lid on his position at WAFL level, with Eastland and Gowdie (who also just had an epic game with 15 touches, 10 marks and 7 goals at League level). So wonder if an AFL prospect might be hiding in the ressies there...

Main issue is his height. RookieMe had him at 195cm last year and now he’s listed on the WAFL site at 197cm, so appears to still be growing. You’d want him to get up over 2m like Harry Edwards did.

Interesting problem. Maric needs another preseason (who doesn't?) in the gym. He does look soft trying to tackle bigger bodies. His kick is a weapon used properly, could be handy on a wing if he has pace and a tank, with link up kicks. (was thinking Embley running down the wing and kicking goals, but he was a HF?)
Chesser's coming back soon and some suggest he plays wing (and rotate through central), and then you have MCCarthy definitely playing backline possibly this week.
With Maric benched, what will Mini do with him going forward - Wafl's not a bad option.

GoEaglesGoSGIO I know a Saudi prince who's got a bit of spare dosh to invest. DM me and we can get this superleague off the ground. I've already emailed a proposal in PDF format to Pyke and the board. Would you be willing to change the team's name from the West Coast Eagles to Saudi International Petrochemical Company Super Kings™?

Umm, he's actually a forward ,played well there when we first drafted him, as more of a 3rd tall
He had Waterman, darling and Williams and really playing as a mid sized forward. Going shorter would be massive burden on Allen if Maric is the next tallest guy. Any way I think both Archer and Jilliams are better prospects longer term and should be given chances in front of Maric.

Where ever he plays Maric needs to get tough and show some physicality cause he is in danger of being a very vanilla player.

Yeah I'm saying he'd be a better option than having all 3 big guys in the forward line.
Tbh all 4 of them are vanilla, doesn't mean they won't be any good tho. Maric is probably the least vanilla out of them all
