Some simple commments:

1. If Waite is playing in defence he has to play on the key fwd such as Richo, otherwise we need him in the fwd line as we were one dimensional when going fwd

2. Jammo is 3 years from being ready to play on guys like Richo and I thought it was an absolute f#cking disgrace for us to play him on Richo for 85% of the game.

3. If Jammo is going to play on the prime fwd each week we will struggle to win a game.

4. Don't underestimate how huge Richos influence was tonite and could we have stopped him on a couple of occassions when the game was in the balance we may have won the game

5. We have to have a more defensive set up with players flooding back as our backline is horrible.

Waite - good,
Jamison - good,
Bower - good (stunned me in the first half)

Sorry , Jamison showed good signs but Richo should of kicked 10 so u cannot say he was good relative to AFL standard number 1 defenders. He was good relative to 2nd year footballers.

Cannot believe we played him on richo for more than 20 mins

i thought waite was terrible

Is he the most frustrating footballer or what? Gets run down from behind at least once a game. The difference between his best and worse is both vast and too often seen.

Jamison, while 2nd year, is 21 not 19. He's old enough and big enough to warrant a game in the firsts without us being worried off "throwing him to the wolves". If the clubs intend on making him our long term fullback - and all signs point to that being the case, then we've got to give him the game time he needs against the quality forwards. He'll concede a few goals along the way, but will be better for the run and in my opinion is already a pretty decent defender.

Disagree - while I've been down on Waite this preseason I thought he played pretty well today. He stuffed up a couple of times, but I don't think that part of Waite's game will ever fully disappear. He needs to improve his consistency, which is something I felt began to improve toward the end of 2007 and hopefully continues to improve throughout 2008.

Bower I think is very impressive and his decision making seems to have improved significantly over what it was last year. I believe he was our one player to have 100% efficiency out there tonight, which is very pleasing. Also goes alright defensively.

I was encouraged we perserved with Jamison, he was soundly beaten there is no doubt but he shows great signs - we have no one who could have matched richo tonight he was on fire. Jamison got a lesson tonight no doubt, we will see what he has learnt from it in the weeks to come.

Absolute crap. First half Richmond scored 6 goals without umpire assistance. Our midfield assisted the defence, the pressure was on in the midfield causing poor delivery. Our defence in Jamo and Waite more than held there own. When we stopped to a halt what do you expect Jamo to do or anyone to do with a fleet of runners charging at you pin pointing passes into positions that advantaged Richo?

.

i think Thornton went on to him for a bit, to try and reclaim the balance.

it was odd that every time the ball went into our forward line Fev has at least 2 and sometimes 3 and 4 blokes stopping him, but Richo seemed to have only 1 on him.

Because he's not a backman, as soon as Hammer & Kreuzer come back Setanta goes back & Waite goes fwd.

We are weakening our forward line too much & not strengthing our backline enough by playing him in defense.

No offense to Jamisen but he's Bret Thornton mark II.
He's just not big enough to play on the big power forwards. And he never will be.

Carlton has no key backmen, and none in the wings. Jammo is another HBF like Thornton. Sentanta and Waite are not the answers either. With 2 very young ruckmen and no backline Carlton won't be improving any time soon.

I though Jammo did a pretty good job on Richo to be honest. And why not give him some big jobs? That's the only was he is going to learn. Richo is a man-mountain, yet Jammo never got out-muscled by him.

I thought Jammo did a reasonable job. The issue is with our one-directional midfielders who don't get back to fill up the space, and with our lack of quality ruckmen.

I have never like Waite as a defender, because he goes missing for patches of games. That's ok for a forward, but in defence it hurts you a lot more.

Perservering with Jamison reminded me of Hawthorn's Zac Dawson experiment a couple of years back

Although Richo was rarely double-teamed
Q. Is it easier to counter it if you are out at CHF?
Q. Could it be an option for Fev - he would not have any trouble with the distance from out there and is willing to do a power of running nowadays

I thought Jamo did well too but he did get out muscled once or twice. Once I clearly remember. Jamo was caught on the left hand side of Richo, ball was coming in from the right. Richo easily got rid of him unfortuantely but it was always going to happen :(
