Mahlepi
Cancelled
It feels like we will be on a rollercoaster ride for a few years. In an era where average teams have won flags because we fail at the trade table. Further we waste round 1 picks on injured players.
The club needs to front up and be honest. It cant portray this image of players accepting less to play for Geelong and then scraping in the cap last year.
TRADE FAILS -
1. Ablett. Should never have traded pick 20 for a 34 year old who was injured in the shoulders, and with suspect hamstrings. Should have shown him the same loyalty that he showed the club. Further he is on very decent coin. His form this year for his experience and pay cheque has been less than satisfactory. If this was Motlop there would be thread after thread on his form. He does not run both ways, is looking for cheap possessions, and his body is cooked. He should have been a Sam Mitchell type trade, but Wells was bent over again.
2. Caddy (trade to Richmond). Completely outplayed and let a dependable player go for a speculative pick in the 20s. On exposed form Parfitt has potential (and we dont know if we could have picked him with a lower pick), but his form has not matched Caddy's. This is a fail trade as he has been very good for Richmond, and they feel like they have won, which indicates they did win. One needs to remember we got a similar pick for AC who had emotional as well as physical issues. Caddy was traded when he is exactly the type of player we are seeking. Further we are paying for Crameri and Black, in an attempt to replicate this player type.
3. Stanley. On exposed form at the Saints why would we pay a high price for a player they had no faith in. Look at what Hawthron paid for McEnvoy, and you realise we went for a cheaper option, and should not have stumped up so much for an average player.
4. Henderson. Should have never given up so much for a player that Carlton did not want, had some injuries. We dont need to be the good guys time and time again.
5. Dangerfield. Just play the game, and walk him through. But alas.
6. McIntosh. Why pay for a bung up ruck.
7. Mitch Clark, seriously Varcoe is still going ok.
8. Cockatoo. Could have had Lever and Dale, Bullen etc
This is on exposed form, not potential, and not what if in the future.
RECRUITMENT
Our recruiting past 35 is fine, and hides our deplorable sub 25 recruiting. The Selwood trade cant be used every time we recruit an injured player with a first round pick. The selection of Thurlow, Lang, Smedts are the reason we lack sufficient top end talent. And then we are arrogant enough to trade and release it when we have it.
We need to wake up, and trade and recruit the way we want our player to play. We play with this arrogance that we trade with. There needs to a level of ruthlessness, and passion.
Otherwise we will have a bunch of softies who will enjoy the injury room.
Right now our defence is a rookie or two, a high jumper, a token pick etc and are playing well. They have been developed and are playing like they want to be afl players.
Our forwards are ineffective. Hawkins needs support, and the forwards need to tackle and harrass. There needs to be pressure.
Our midfield woes can be solved. DO NOT PLAY DANGER ABLETT and SELWOOD in the middle together ever. We are destroying the careers of Menegola and Duncan with this crap. Ablett needs to hold his position. But on form Menegola is a better mid, so he gets the nod.
Seriously wake up.
Get a ruck, and play with passion.

so we payed a first round pick for an injury prone 3rd tall who shits the bed in finals. Not a good trade.
