I don't normally attend the GF if I miss out in the ballot, but I have the feeling this could be a reasonably good match.

I'm going out Friday night so I'm tempted to go straight to the G, get my seat and go home for a few hours' sleep before returning.

What time would I need to queue up?

I'll put it this way, for the all interstate grand final a couple of years ago, at 8am grand final day the queue for the MCC was four wide and stretched round to light tower 3 (the opposite side of the ground)

Members' arrangements - 2008 AFL Grand Final

http://mcc.org.au/News/Latest News/2008/September/AFL Grand Final Arrangements.aspx

The Members Reserve’s capacity of about 22,500 will be available for the 2008 AFL Grand Final between Geelong and Hawthorn and Full members are strongly encouraged to support the match.

There will be a split of approximately 55 per cent reserved seats and 45 per cent walk-up seats for the Grand Final, with about 12,000 pre-purchased reserved seats set aside for Full members in a random computer ballot, which was held from August 10-17.

In addition to the pre-purchased reserved seats, there will be approximately 10,000 walk-up seats and more than 1000 standing spaces available on the usual first-in, best-dressed basis when the gates open at 8.00am (View a plan of the seating areas).

ACCESS
All Full members (including 50-year and Life members), Honorary Cricket, Playing and Temporary members and annual guest cardholders may attend the Grand Final on presentation of their valid membership card.

All members attending any AFL finals match are reminded that they must have renewed their membership for the 2008/09 season for their card to be valid for entry. Payment is also required for an annual guest card for those members eligible to purchase one.

Restricted members
With two strongly supported Victorian-based teams participating in the Grand Final, there will be no access to the Reserve for Restricted members.

Overseas Members
Overseas member will be required to pay an admission fee of $176 to attend the AFL Grand Final. Members will need to satisfy the normal guidelines for Overseas membership.

WALK-UP SEATING
After you occupy a seat on arrival on Levels 1, 2 and 3, an attendant will issue you with a reserved seat ticket for that particular seat for your retention for the day.

Attendants will start issuing individual reserved seat tickets within approximately 20 minutes of the gates opening or soon after your arrival. Once you occupy a seat, please remain there until you receive a ticket from the attendant.

Seat tickets on Level 4 will be distributed from the stairwells in each of the bays on the Level 4 concourse.

Seat saving for latecomers is not permitted and seats will only be issued when cardholders are present. Under no circumstance will tickets be issued to cardholders not in attendance.

QUEUING PROCEDURES
Full members may queue for walk-up seating at the members’ entrance at Gate 2. Apart from comfort breaks, members must remain in the queue and not leave items in their place. Chairs, bags, rugs, etc. left unattended for long periods will be removed from the queue.

One person in the queue represents one spot. That is, latecomers are not able to join friends already in the queue. MCC and security staff will be assigned to continually patrol and monitor queues. Complimentary tea and coffee points will be available for those queuing throughout the morning.

In the interest of safety for all, members are asked to enter the Reserve in a safe, responsible and orderly manner. Running to the seating areas once inside the gates is not permitted.

Members must be dressed in accordance with the dress standards required to enter the Reserve, even when queuing.

RETURNING BALLOT SEATS
Those Full members successful in the Grand Final ballot and unable to use their reserved seat(s) are encouraged to forward them back to the club. If the tickets are re-sold, the initial seatholder will receive a refund of $25 per seat.

Full members who were unsuccessful in the ballot have been placed on a waiting list and will be offered returned tickets at the same price.

Those members who have a reserved seat and do not attend the Grand Final will not be eligible to enter the ballot for reserved seats at next year’s Grand Final.

MEMBERS DINING ROOM BOOKINGS
Full members will be able to register for the Members Dining Room ballot from 9.00am-5.00pm on Monday September 22 via the website or phone (9284 2300).

There are no Level 2 reserved seats for dining room patrons and one valid six-digit membership or guest card number must be supplied for each person in the booking.

There is a limit of one registration per member/guest card.

A lot of the early people in the line go straight for the pavilion. If you go straight to the bottom level you normally do OK. I got there at 6am last year and had perfect seats undercover as close to the wing as possible.

I'll be getting there about 6am again I reckon.

Be ready for the typical outrage when the mcc members reserve section (ponsford) is 1/4 full.

They need to do something about that.

They should have a policy that if the seats are empty at 3pm, then they open the gates and let stragglers outside fill them.

Are the walk-up seats just for MCC members?
And if not is there any way for the general public to get a ticket for the GF?
Yes, MCC only. If you do not have access rights through club membership then corporate package is the only way. Don't expect change from $1.5k

Hey my first ever thread bump!

Appropriate too - my fiance got us tickets to Book Of Mormon for my birthday. On 30 September. At 2pm.

I checked my bank account this morning and saw that Ticketek have debited the cash to indicate that I was successful in this year's ballot.

It's lucky that I don't particularly care who wins this year - as much as I'd love to go I can't snub a birthday present...

Are you giving away ballot?

I'd be keen if possible.

Thanks for that info.
A friend told me back in 2005 that he rolled up on the day and got general admission because they'd undersold but I'm guessing that was because it was 2 non-vic clubs
