Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Squared a beauty to Gibbs who in turn put it on the chest of Curnow for our first goal.
Drew a man on the boundary line and handballed to Betts for our second goal.
Swang around on the 50 and nailed a goal on his left in the second.
Lead hard to give an option for our defenders, marking in our defensive 50 in the second.

these are off the top of my head in the first half. He played a major role last night, his leads, his workrate, his assists...

dont let a few mistimed marking attempts cloud your judgement.

:thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:Exactly!

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Surely now he's on his last chances. Blues have been ver, very patient with Andrew, and after the trade talk, he's been given another chance.

Besides his brilliant left foot goal from outside 50, he didn't do enough. Also, was trying to do the spectular rather than the disciplined things on too many occasions.

Let's be truthful; only reason we've persisted is because he was selected as an early draft pick.. if he was a 3rd or 4th rounder, I'd say he would have been delisted by now.

I hope he does something in 2011, or any trade currency he has will be gone

I think he really need to lift to keep his spot but that is a good thing. The side we had on the weekend was a B side Carlton missing up to near 8 players.

The forward line do have poor kickers and it showed on the scoreboard.I say once Houlihan,Kreuzer,Henderson all good kicks the better we be. The defense was poor with no key big men in Jamison and Bower.

Setanta Ohailipin may not be flashy but he at least kicks 3-5 goals sometimes.Walker needs to kick better and the others.Hampson need to improve in kicking and marking.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I'd also like to point out a passage of play in the 4th where Walker was on two opponents, jumped in the middle of both to take a difficult mark, did not get a ride on anybody, just a standing jump and snatch at the ball, and could not reel it in. Quartermain on the telecast, said that 'Walker tries to take mark of the year again.' No he didn't you idiot, he tried to take a standard mark with a split second piece of judgment and at least got his hands to it despite being out of position.

I hope all of the things that Walker allegedly did wrong last night are things observed with eyes at the game, and not perceived because of shitty commentary.

My thoughts exactly. At the game I thought he had a real crack. When I spoke to two Carlton mates the next day (that weren't at the game) they both were saying Walker should stop trying to take the mark of the year. I then watched the replay and realised they were just regurgitating Quartermains ramblings.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

I thought he "run a muck" in the first half, pushing up taking marks on the lead. I didnt see any issue with his game at all. infact i thought he was second best on in the first half.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

and walker is usually one of the besster set shots in the side I always thought. Wasnt on the other night though.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Nothing wrong with another thread, Walker was pretty good on Thursday night. I'd rather Walker flying for a mark than Eddie Betts.

Well i was at the game and i thought walker had a pretty poor game (at the time) after rewatching it i noticed he's done more than i thought he did.

I thought at times he was trying to do the miraculous instead of the team thing. but that's what makes walker so exciting to watch. when the miraculous pays off.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

**** me, here goes. I will preface this by declaring my hand and saying Walker is my buddy this year but WTF do you want from a medium forward Mr X?

You say after ONE game, possibly the third he has played as a forward for the Blues that Carlton must move him on as he has had his chances?

He has kicked 3 goals in pretty much every praccy game before the season started and then kicked 2 goals 3 behinds (one being a poster on a breezy night in Victoria) So it could have been 3 goals 2 or heaven forbid even 4 goals 1.

We all kicked like shite, and the scoring happened at one end of the ground which would tell me something strange was happening (I also must admit I have only seen the 1st and last quarters as I was away ((agree terrible business decision))

Please don't even entertain the idea of Setanta when people have used "not enough football brains" as an excuse to get rid of Walker, a kid who has grown up playing our game.

I will go and watch the second and third quarter now but from what I saw he used his pace, his leap (yep should learn to not fly so early I agree but that comes with EXPERIENCE, and should learn to create the contest when not able to take the mark, could not agree more) He applied forward 50 pressure with Jeffy and Betts and like others have said will improve when Hendo returns and Waite (Who may I add is meant to be a leader in our team and can't stop hitting people I mean FFS you want to have a go at someone who let the team down then have a look at Jarrad) .

Wish he wouldn't fly for the speccy as much as he does, but I thought he played his role quite well - he'll be a valued member of our forward set-up.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Even watching it on the TV with the old budgies screeching away in the commentary box I thought Walker was actually pretty good all things considered. I was really watching out for him though, as I do with certain players like Murph, Judd, Kreuz etc, if I love 'em (no homo), I try to see every little thing they do.

Okay, I see what you did here. Good work. I get it now.

You are really a massive fan of Walker and you are just pretending to bag him so everyone will respond by saying all the good things he did so you can quietly chuckle to yourself and delight in sucking everyone in.

You are nowhere near the class of Parrot so you can quit your trolling now. Also, Parrot at least has the decency to waste the time and effort of opposition supporters, not ours.

Yes Walker was very good, most of us also agree he did some silly things but given time to settle into his new role he will be very valuable for us. I am also glad we were not able to find a suitable trade for him as it would be a shame to see him tearing it up at another club now he is finally injury free for the first time in his career. I also agree he wont be delisted and I can also appreciate why we took him at such an early draft pick. Glad we agree on so many levels!

There, that wasn't so bad was it?

Whoa ... what? She is really a guy? Bruce Willis was dead all along?

Mind officially blown.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

My biggest beef with Walker is that every time i think he is going to explode and develop his game to an elite level he fails to deliver. I get frustrated cause i see glimpses of potential unfulfilled, but to be fair, he's had a horrid run of injuries.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Walker was fantastic on the lead early,it was only when Carlton started bombing the ball inside he had to fly for contested grabs what the hell else was he supposed to do.

I'm sorry to do this but reading this hurt my brain. :o

You had better watch that game again or even a couple of times to see how much he did deliver. I Did! And, there's no doubt in my mind that we would not have won without him.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Considering the delivery to the fwd line was the old bomb and hope crap we have become use to I thought he did OK presenting and running hard. Would rather him getting in the air for the contest than Garlett and Betts. He is good in traffic.
Lets run with him and see what happens. He looks a bit anaemic to me. Obviously does not get the spray tan done at the same salon as Hoops and Sugar

He's been with us a few seasons now, and really should be stepping up and aserting some leadership on the field.

Looks like a passenger at times

The best thing about Walker Bashing threads is that it clears up who are the nuff nuffs on this board and need to be well salted.

Mr.X appears to be an anchovy.

Walker kicked two, created one for Betts and missed another gettable shot playing as a tall forward after half time.

Walker's contribution was approx. the winning margin.

Only a troll would criticise his game.
