Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

5 goals says shut about about walker - its getting reeeealy boring. Eddie reache for the rafters against the biggest in the league every week and we never hear about it.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Lettuce be reality. Walker would be a starter in any AFL team.

I feel like I just read a netbank scam email where it appears official until you read it carefully and realise the English is just not quite there.

Salad man is almost there. I don't think Walker would get a gig with the Pies just at the moment.

Audas .... well, a welcome return to those drunken rants of yesteryear. Makes me feel young again. :thumbsu:

Post match posting eh ?
Still - its Walker....grrr!

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Credit where credit's due ... he did look good last night.

The best thing was he was playing a bit smarter, and got the results.

Good stuff AW, well done and keep it up :)

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

It's an interesting point that despite the opposition where you could just about get away with any manner of party tricks, Walks actually (from what I saw) never seemed to fly for mark of the year and just played his role.

Guess the coaches may have been in his ear through the week or maybe he just didn't feel he needed to waste the energy :p Anyway, I was fairly happy with him. Kicking through the sticks was very good.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Just watched the Winners. 3 of Garlett's 5 goals got full coverage. None of Walker's 5 appeared anywhere. Both have 7 after two rounds and lead the tally. Guess it's all about who's fashionable, not who performs.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

He went straight over the head of someone on the wing in the first quarter. Its interesting to note - and this is quite bizarre - he really didn't even look like he was trying. I think that might be his problem - he jumps and ends up ten feet in the air without even trying. It was so odd - he literally ran straight over the guys head - barely touched him !

against a good team tonite, did the same thing. jumped all over the place & didnt really do too much up forward. subbed off & needs to do more against real teams up forward.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Andrew has no idea how to read the ball when going for a mark.He needs to go to a local park, boot the ball a thousand times in the air and mark over his head.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Will one day possible take the greatest mark of the century and possibly be :(remembered for that only by the majority of football fans.I wish we had the Walker who played like his first game many years back and do it regular he is out their i know he is.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

walker will not deliver he is too poor by foot and doesnt find the ball enough.threaten to walk out last year and not much interest from other clubs either.and i dont like the fact he dictates to the coach where he wants to play and he gets his way, ratten needs to be stronger could not imagine a player telling malthouse or lyon where he wants to play

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Top 2 draft pick as a midfielder, hows this for an idea...lets play him....in the middle..last night he shouldve been played on ball, and collins could be subbed on for carrazzo who was clearly struggling, walker is a better disposer on both sides, and much more penetrating, when walker shanks it into the forwardline, its hard and low and not easy to mop up for defenders, when carrazzo shanks it, its high and usually down the throat of the opposition.

Pace, endurance, penetration in his kicks, and truly dual sided, should be played more on ball, not happy with the way ratts is using him when compared to carrazzo, in ratts eyes carots can do no wrong, and walker is usually the first out, not happy.

Collins can take the vacant spot in the fwd line, and walks put on ball with carrots dropped, collins and walker interchangeable b/w fwd and mid, i would love to see this next week, although every1 knows ratten never drops carrazzo.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

TBH if there is a new coach at Carlton next year, i suspect Walker will be traded, perhaps I am being harsh here, but Walker's inconsistent form and flashes of brillliance is a coach killer, it is no good to Ratts if he kickss 5 against the Suns and goes AWOL against the Pies

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Last roll of the dice - carazzo out and walker has a crack at being our main tagger surely he could do that.

Can't play half back as can't kick.

There is a lot of bias, exaggerations and inaccuracies on BF, and this just about takes the cake!! Not having a go at you personally, but I just laughed pretty hard when I read that!

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

Our match day coaching is poor and inflexable. Our coaches don't know how to get a struggling player into the game. They don't know how to get the most out of their players.

When Walker is not having an impact forward you put him on the ball. Our rotations throught the center are not good enough. Walker is a highly talented player and athlete, if you can't get anything out of him you are doing a poor job.

We tend to put players in a position and leave them there. When a player is struggling you mix it up. You just don't leave them there to rot or drag/sub them.

I know you have to be patient with forwards as they can be quiet for most of the time and impact in spurts but why was Walker and Betts not given 5 or 10 minutes in the midfield per quarter.

It would have got them into the game. It would have given onballers a rest and kept them fresh. It would have troubled Collingwood's structure. It could have given us momentum as Walker and Betts are decent rovers. It could have got Walker and Betts into the game and helped them impact up forward. It would have helped with Murphy and Gibbs' lack of impact on the ball if they were able to be moved around too and may have helped them to have more impact. Murphy and Gibbs were given hardly any time forward, this is an absolute joke! Walker and Betts could have easily swapped with Gibbs and Murphy for spurts. This is AMATURE coaching at best.

Our match day coaching lacks though, lacks flexability and lacks imagination. We look good when things are going our own way and the plans we went in with are working. We look poor when things are not working because changes to get players into the game and changes to help in areas where we are struggling don't happen or happen far too late.

I think that he will be off to GWS next year.
Would suit both us and him.
We would get a 1st round draft pick for him, and he would get some extra cash and probably get a run in the middle.
Leaving him as an uncontracted player would be ideal as a protection from our better players getting poached. Think they would be happy to leave the rest alone, if he is available.
Has every athletic attribute imaginable. Just cannot make decisions under high pressure.

No - he's 100% right!! Walker's the epitome of truly dual-sided - he can't kick effectively left or right!!!!

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

People have absolutely no idea - none.

Have watched the games several times - and walker is by far the LEAST of our worries - even Judd was more inaccurate kicking for goal in some of our games.

The Walker can't kick issue is about as tired and wrong as Michelle Corby is innocent crowd. The best indicator of footballing nuff nuffs is disparaging Walker.

Re: Walker. Will he ever deliver?

There's a lot of good coaching tactics and views on our forum.

It is really starting to make me wonder how the hell can a whole coaching board that holds some great past players and a lot of experience, just seem to do jack shit when we are losing.

I mean we are like moths that keep banging into a window repeatedly trying to get inside. They don't want to shake it up when we are losing or change up player positions half way through games. So far we are happy to throw Thornton back and forth but that's about it.

We have so many players we could swap around at half time which could throw off the opposition and add a bit of spark to our game. it kills me we don't do this. If we are already losing, then where's the risk?

Waite - should be thrown down back, when we are not getting the ball in our forward line. (Collingwood game) Leaving Watson to take them on after halftime with no support was just pathetic. I know a lot of people on here say he provides our forward line with structure. But the game was being played in Collingwoods Defense, If Waite had of taken Dawes, Jamison stayed on Cloke then Watson Third man up, with Yarran picking up the lose ball and Duigan Laidler defending/rebounding. You slowly work the ball up ground into the forward half as a team and attack at goal, just like Collingwood do. Trying to break the lines from half back and bombing it into a Hampson/Waite/Thornton hoping they mark it or the smalls crumb, clearly wasn't working.

Walker
- go to midfield, if quite in the forward line

Betts
- ^^^^^

Yarran - could even have a crack at the midfield if we aren't winning the center bounce.

These might not be match winning ideas, But when what you are doing isn't working there's no reason not to think out side the square.

Remember we are suppose to be "unpredictable"
