Walker you STAR!

Walker is James Fantasia's final legacy with the club. :)

I don't think I've ever seen a market for Rising Star nominations. Only the overall winner.
I'd say Walker was spotted by a local scout, and then Fanta went over and had a look and liked what he saw.

Rendell finished off the job for us last year.

That's how it works alright.

Each club has a network of local scouts and they recommend players who should be looked at more closely.

Just on this, he wasn't just recommended to Adelaide, I've heard atleast 6 or so other clubs were desperate to sign him up...even more than we were, but he only wanted to go to the Crows as he was a Crows supporter.

18 disposals, 5 marks, 3.3 according to the SANFL site.

Don't forget that 2 of those goals were consolation pieces after Sturt had turned off in the last quarter.

He was good today, showed some of the skills he was signed up for, but his endeavour off the ball was not particularly great. Fantastic today is a bit of an overstatement.

Party pooper.

I see some positives in this though - his mental toughness and make up in battling on and not dropping the head even though the game was over when he could have just started to think about his Gold Coast holiday coming up! If any team had an excuse to turn off in the last quarter it was Norwood surely - their year was over.

I remember reading that Walker's family were particularly thankful to Fantasia for the support he had given them. It made it sound as though they became quite close while he was on the Scholarship.

No doubt our Eastern recruiting network would've been the first to lay eyes on him, but given his performances it sounds like he was a bit of a monty to get a Scholarship somewhere. Well done to whoever was the first to see him. ;)

Today was the 4th time ive seen Walker live this year, today by far wasnt his best but his defensive pressure was better. He chased on occasions which the first time i saw him which was in the draw against south he would just give up and practically stand there so i think this facet of his game is improving slowly. His fitness is definately a lot better thant that first time, he was blowing hard in the 1st quarter against south but today he seemed fine(maybe because the ball was not down there to often).

I know he only kicked 3 and two were late but i thought he was real good, presented hard made an effort on a day where he was the only player that really looked dangerous for norwood. His development has come a long way since early in the year he is a much better rounded player than when he first came down here.

I think he will definately play barring injury in round 1 nxt season, its an exciting time to be a supporter of the afc... :D:D

I think he was good again yesterday in a game that was very difficult for a Norwood forward. Strangely he was played deep on the full forward line and in the 2nd half particularly, Norwood's disposal was terrible. The inside 50s (which were well below Sturt's anyway) were very misleading, because due to poor disposal time and time again they broke down across the half forward line. Even when the ball looked like coming forward it would rarely reach Walker territory as it was turned over across half forward. He definately should have played across half forward or even given a run up the ground in the 2nd half.

In the first quarter when the game was more even, he was great better.

Whoever identified him for the scholarship deserves a bonus.

Could be one of the biggest steals ever.

The good thing about it he is a CROW supporter........so I wouldn't think he will be going anywhere in a hurry. He also said, to be picked up by an AFL team was a dream that he always had as a child the fact that team was the crows made it that much more special.

Taylor was in fact a pet project of Mark Ross when he was at AFC at age 15 when he made NSW 16 state and pulled out as he fractured his pelvis in a notor x accident and he has now followed him to Norwood and yes Fantasia then followed up !
He is keen to improve his fitness base and will not return home till Xmas and has a new training partner in Goody !

shit that is going to test him.

Which also means Goody is back in '09

Where did you hear this? If it's true then that's fantastic news, Taylor Walker + fitness base sound extremely exciting. Hopefully if he is fitter he will feel more like chasing.

It's also good to see that he has a strong work ethic and can identify his flaws.

*Notes Goodwin's previous recent training partners

Chris Knights before his breakout year in 2007
Bernie Vince before his breakout year in 2008

Probably on the phone.

The POTENTIAL of our forward line is flat out amazing.....reaching it....hopefully we will.

But Walker, witch natural footy smarts, brilliant leading and rover like below the knees. Tippett busting packs, contested mark machine and more knowlege about the game next year. Sellar living up to his potentail, CHF up the ground running back into the 50 and using his athletic ability to play a Riewoldt like role.

Then add Hentschel, if he can get back.

A resting Porps/Dougie/Vince/Danger/Otten

And then we DO need a rover,....Maybe it's Jacky, but people seem to think he's more a wing or HFF.

Rockliff???

You mean a crumber?

Rockliff is a Porplyzia clone. Strong, solid body, big bum, uses it well to protect space in a contest. Creative at ground level with fantastic instincts. Not the mould of a typical AFL player these days, but definitely good enough.

Almost tore a hole in my pants when you said Porplyzia clone :thumbsu:

I know it's good to have the flashy Rioli type crumbers, but the footy brain Porps has, and Rockliff aparently has....hard to pass up.

We could do with a couple more Porps.

Very happy to snag him in the 2nd or 3rd.

Awesome to hear he wants to get better at his fitness and isn't just complacent with being a natural gun.

Goody will make the next few months a pain in the anus for him though, but he'll be all the better for it.

Thanks for the update mate. :thumbsu:

Is there another Sellar on our list I don't know about?

Goddamn it, you'd think I'd learn to look for this stuff :o

Also, I like the sound of this Rockliff. I think I've heard you wax lyrical about him before. Do you think the Crows would be interested?
It took a couple of years for us to be convinced of the non-athletic Porps.

Unless the Porps success story has turned us around, then I don't think we'll go down that track unfortunately. I also recognise that we have a new recruiting team since then, however NC would need convincing.
