Wallis - what to do, what to do??

I like Wallace but his mid position is gettting taken by Smith and Lippa and hes not a real half forward. If we can obtain more suited talent in a B Hill or another player we are after then it makes sense.

Giving his ties to the club and leadership qualities he possesses it would have to be a good offer to make it worth it we are just giving him away

Bevo said today Wallis is probably out for the season as he is likely to undergo surgery on his stress fracture, subject to a further chat with the specialist.

No surprise there - it was discussed along those lines earlier in the week - but Bevo pretty much said it was definite he won't play again this year.

He's had a tough run of injuries. I'd like to see him more forward. For mine, he's the second best set shot at the club. "Mitchie doesn't miss 'em" says the bloke in the row behind me whenever he lines up for a set shot

We keep Wallis. You dont trade away heart and soul players. We made a mistake letting go of Roughy and Dahl last year (IMO). Wallis when fit is still a good player, kicks goals and can find the pill. To move him on would be folly.
Uhh...

The cold hearted list manager in me suggests that this team as it stands is rapidly passing him by and should we decide to go with a Bailey Smith type mid with our first he's likely to slip even further down the pecking order.

The reality however is in the short to medium term, he's probably the likely candidate to replace Dickson as the smart, medium sized, low stats, but accurate kicking forward. Personally as Ive often stated, I see no future for him in the side outside of this role.

That would be a horrible move for us.
If Wallis is in our 16-22 best players, our team is in pretty good shape.
Last year he showed fantastic loyalty knocking back more money elsewhere to stay at the club he & his family loves. A year later we ship him to the gold coast?!? Not only is that a terrible precedent to set for the rest of the playing group, but Wallis is a damn good footballer, plus he seems like a good bloke to boot. We don’t need this thread.

He's an average-decent player but not everyone on your list is a superstar. Great work ethic, reliable kick for goal, never shirks. Bit slow and iffy disposal. Won't ever set the world on fire but the sort of player you want beside you on the field. Provides much needed experience. What's the point of trading him? We wouldn't get anything & our salary cap must be burning a hole in the CEO's pocket.

I'd rate him third or fourth, behind Dickson, Schache and possibly Lipinski. At the very least, he's a good set shot which makes him a rarity in our side

Dickson, perhaps. Schache and Lipinski are behind daylight. If a 'dog player was kicking for goal for my life, Mitch is the man and he'd be elite in the mid field if his legs moved quicker.

Uhhhh what? We could've found a little bit more in the cap or the length of contract to keep him. Wouldn't have taken much. It pretty much amounted to letting him go.
You obviously haven't been keeping up with the news. He didn't leave for financial reasons, he literally didn't want to play for the Bulldogs anymore. Even admitted he was hoping his injury would keep him from being selected in 2018.

Obviously hey? No. The story of him not wanting to play for us or needing a change came after he left. Maybe pay attention to what happened when it happened.

Also, the injury and not wanting to play came from his headspace. He was under pressure in a contract year and wasn't up to playing. Didn't mean he didn't want to play for dogs. The injury took the pressure off somewhat.

What does the story coming after he left have to do with anything? That link you posted is irrelevant.

He didn't want to pull up fit and play for us, he clearly wanted a fresh start and he got it.

You think the situation is different where he wanted out. And I read a situation where he didn't want out but felt it was his only option. He bleed for us for years. And his bad form in a contract year along with a new list manager culminated in us letting go of a heart and soul player who I reckon deserved a bit more than we offered.

If you think differently that's on you. I see it differently.

We could have offered exactly what the cars gave him he wasn’t staying.

Dogs put him on the trade table end of 17 and he was gone from that minute. Everything he did from that moment said he wanted out including his only really good game in 18 was against the cats.

He just played the game and spoke all the right words that all players do.
