Much has been said about Robert Walls and his treatment of Libba this week. As an every day reader of the age I noticed Wall's dislike for the Bulldogs long before the events of this week. All through the other dramas with Romero ect in previous years ,Walls was always there writing as many negatives as he could about the Bulldogs. Even after they had spent many weeks on top of the ladder in 98 he stated that he did not like their style of footy.
The fact is that Walls is still carrying baggage from his coaching days. After moderate success the previous year ,in 1997 the Tigers under Walls were expected to be the big improvers. When they came up against the Bulldogs very early in the season and after a tight 1st half they were absolutley savaged by a hard at the ball and hard tackling Bulldogs who kicked 8 last Q goals. Much was was written in the press about Richmonds meek effort when the heat was put on them. This was a defining moment in Walls's coaching life. After this opposition sides picked up on their weekness and they slide back down the ladder.
I believe this particular game was the the begining of the end for Walls as a club coach and he's been carrying the baggage ever since. Time to get over it Robert and become an objective journo. Although I dont like your chances considering the company you keep on the couch..
