underwood debate reminds me of the star wars disney debate.
shes bad. but because of misogyny. the criticism is never received and never truly engaged with by the industry.

disney star wars had everyone's favourite hero who believed in the light of all people, even truly evil people. before turning him into into the equivalent of a nephew murdering hobo. but because of sexist and racial attacks by fans. the legitimate criticism of just character assassinating half a dozen fun characters never gets heard.

sorry, recently watched andor. shows a complete banger. everyone loves it. Its the most overtly anti MAGA show i've seen. but no one cares. because it doesn't involve race gender or climate change.

Agreed. Isa Guha, Alison Mitchell and Mel Jones are all excellent callers. It's not a gender issue, it's simply an issue that Underwood isn't a good caller, just as Dwayne Russell and BT also aren't good callers.

Laughnan and Jones are not commentators.
But they do host Thursday and Friday night summaries of games those nights.
Both are very very competent hosts and are every bit as good as the pst players.
And, I believe, well respected by all.
Same as Neroli Meadows used to be on Fox.

I don't want to hear Dermie rant and rave for five minutes and tell us what we already know. Studio chat he is good but not during games. In fact he is a pain in the arse.
Maybe in regards ti Kelli, you may find a couple of he male counterparts have never played either. I don't like her, but her knowledge and understsnding of the game far out weighs many of he male counterparts.

Derm can seriously dribble some shit but occasionally does offer some actual insight as a former player and gives a different perspective and an idea of what players are actually thinking out on the field in certain situations.

• I'm convinced Ras has value, but like most assets they need to be invested in. Give him weeks in the 22 JL and see what we've got before doing anything else.
• Cooper Simpson may have the flattest trajectory and quickest "point A to point B" kick in the squad. If he even reaches two thirds of what he projects at the minute, he'll be exactly what we need. A lot of credit must go to the coaching group in moving him to half back (and a special mention to Chris25 )
• Swaggy dropped Dogga off his Christmas card list after that game.
• I know there's not much room up there, but is Freddy the medium sized, leading forward we hoped Sturt would be? He seems to have an innate sense of timing on his leads, has some hops and has really sticky mits. I'd like to see him deep a bit more often.
• I need to make a public apology...Karl Worner, I apologise, I hope you can forgive me.
• Caleb should buy Andy a coffee this week and ask him for some tips on how to break a tag.
• Stick at it Johnno, I still believe.
• I'd love to have Pat Voss as my spirit animal, but I'm truly not worthy.
• Shai Bolton might be the best thing to happen to Freo in a very long time.

I would love to see one of them - especially our girl Kath, but it takes a very different skill set to be able to call in-game play-by-play that hosting or boundary riding. A large number of commentators do not have that skill set which is why some sound so horrible.

It's not because she's the wrong gender, it's because she's a token.

Nobody can seriously believe she's one of the best 20 commentators in the country. She only has a job because of her gender. She's literally only there to stop the AFL getting sued.

I don’t think that’s entirely true though. She’s more than a capable presenter which is how her career started. For the decision makers in yhe TV industry this was a natural move, nothing to do with her being a female.

In saying that, she’s not a very good commentator. But neither are some of the blokes in the game either. And some of those have been calling games for a long time

I watched the game again. Geez Simpson's kicking was fantastic for such a young player. We played a extra mid compared to other games this year with Erasmus rather than a mid/forward ad it worked well. as we seemed more balanced.

Simpson's kicking wasn't laser accurate but he put it into the space advantage side of his team mate allowing his team mate to run to the drop. If he keeps doing that we will be very happy.

You are right, Dermis dribbles......a lot...... a bloody lot.
Occassionally, very occassionally, he gives a glimmer of sense. But he never know when to STFU.
He is pretty good in the studio, but not as special comments during games.

Kath and Sarah are not commentators as such. It takes skill to remember ALL players during the game.
The former race caller Hill, is a class act. Nevrf gets over excited. Calls the game without going over board.
