Team Captain
As Captain !!! Haha gave all you Port fans a fright didn't I ? gee I copied and pasted this from the AFL's official site - i hope it's legal !
GAVIN Wanganeen has given up the captaincy of AFL club Port Adelaide, citing frustration with a run of injuries.
Port has not named a replacement captain but with defender Darren Mead also giving up the vice-captaincy, deputies Matthew Primus and Warren Tredrea lead the list of candidates.
Wanganeen captained the club for four years but only managed 10 games this year because of an injury-plagued season.
'The club needs to have its captain on the field and on the training track and the fact that I have been unable to play and train consistently is the main reason I have decided to step down from the captaincy,' Wanganeen said.
'Not having the pressure and additional commitments of the captaincy will hopefully allow me to get my career back on track.'
Coach Mark Williams said Wanageen had improved as a leader each year and the club was keen for him to continue in the role.
'He is our best and most experienced player and everyone at the club will continue to learn from him,' Williams said.
Port has joined AFL clubs St Kilda and Richmond in changing their captains.
I think Darren Mead should be Port's next coach but then, I'm not a port supporter.
