You guys are clearly out of touch if you can’t see our small and violent alliance isn’t becoming the pariahs we tried to make Russia.

I’d say the leadership bears some responsibility. Buck stops here, is what a president with integrity would say. Maybe zelensky should hand himself over if defeat looks inevitable . Bet he runs off to enjoy his retirement in luxury!
Zelensky and Ukraine have defeated Putin (or his body double).
The only person looking to enjoy his retirement in luxury is Putin (or one of his body doubles).

Take that statement to the Israel thread (where it is of relevance)

I followed the war real close since late 2013, first the USA installed Poroshenko after maidan and Nuland deciding that it wouldn’t be Klitschko in the undenied leak, ( f the eu) means it was a foreign backed coup of a democratically elected president, albeit a pretty shitty one. Biden is a shitty highly unpopular president too but a coup would be unacceptable.
I guess you will be joining the Russian foreign legion soon to support Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine or will you remain a keyboard warrior in Australia?

If they’ve taken out those two aircraft that’s up there with the Moskva in terms of achievement.

Imagine if it was F-16s that did it
ELI5: What's so special about those aircrafts?

The Beriev A-50 is an AEW&C, pre war Russia only had 15 of them. The eyes and ears in the sky for the Russian Air Force. They lost another to a drone attack last year.

The Ilyushin Il-20/22 is an reconnaissance and command post aircraft, pre war Russia had about 25. It appears the SIGINT version was the type shot down. Wagner shot down another during their march on Moscow.

Russians claiming it was friendly fire. Would mean Russian AD does work!

However it happened, the A-50 is a huge huge loss with the limited amount still air worthy.

Russia's A-50 aircraft provides several critical functions for ongoing military actions in Ukraine, such as detecting air defense systems, guided missiles, and coordinating targets for Russian fighter jets.

Although critically important, Russia only possesses eight of these planes. If lost in action, it would be incredibly difficult if not possible to replace. Russia accordingly operates the A-50s at a reasonable distance from Ukrainian air defense systems. Ukraine's successful destruction of the A-50 aircraft would therefore be particularly noteworthy.

From another article
In July this year, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu stressed the urgency of the A-50 Airborne Warning & Control System (AWACS) modernization in a conference call with Russian Armed Forces officers. The deficit in the number of modern A-50U AWACS aircraft has consistently been cited as a problem for the Russian Air Force (RuAF).

The modernization and swift delivery of the aircraft are essential because these flying radars are used in Russia’s Special Military Operation in Ukraine and are believed to be indispensable for establishing air superiority. The A-50 is crucial to RuAF, offering long-range surveillance, command and control capabilities, and early warning of airborne threats.

...timely delivery of the
[upgraded] aircraft to the RuAF has been seen as a step in the right direction that will bolster the capability of the RuAF, especially as Ukraine is readying to receive the F-16 fighters from NATO.

Interesting that this article lists the RuAF as having only 8 A-50 aircraft.

The following

Lists it as 15, and they got their figures from Flightglobal Insights Apr 22, World Airforces 2022. Now this being the RuAF both figures could be correct, would not surprise me if only half of the RuAF's more complex aircraft are flight worthy at any one time.

Eithier way its a big loss.

Yes, the numbers are a little rubbery. The Forbes article mentions them having just nine A-50Ms and upgraded A-50Us.

This would be the 2nd one that has been damaged/destroyed in the war.

We invaded a neighbour in an attempt at empire building under flimsy and transparent pretences?

******* Kiwis deserve it though.

Unlike Putin we do not even have to alter our constitution to absorb our new conquest. Emutopia rules.

COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA CONSTITUTION ACT - SECT 6.

Definitions.
"The Commonwealth" shall mean the Commonwealth of Australia as established under this Act.

"The States" shall mean such of the colonies of New South Wales, New Zealand, Queensland, Tasmania, Victoria, Western Australia, and South Australia, including the northern territory of South Australia, as for the time being are parts of the Commonwealth, and such colonies or territories as may be admitted into or established by the Commonwealth as States; and each of such parts of the Commonwealth shall be called "a State."

"Original States" shall mean such States as are parts of the Commonwealth at its establishment.

This would be the 2nd one that has been damaged/destroyed in the war.

It seems to be true:

I'm wondering what SAM they used to nail them out over the Sea of Azov. Or is history repeating itself & Wagner insurgents shot them down to get back at Vlad for murdering their leader Prigohzhin? Or perhaps Russians shot their own plane down?

Australians and New Zealanders are one people – a single whole.
There's not a New Zealand history separate from Australian.
The two were artificially separated by the fall of the British Empire.
New Zealand and Australia are the same country.
