Y'know, if it hadn't been pointed out exactly 479 times already (I counted) Melbourne would be insane to offer anything when they can pick him up for free in the PSD.

But it has so I won't.

ahh your a smart guy, and funny aswel. OK lets just forget the fact that melbourne have already let it be known to freo that our pick 19 is on offer because thats 'insane'. Say both Freo and Carlton reach a standstill on Friday. Freo panic because they have no other offers other than Carlton's pick 24 and are forced to take it as they will get nothing otherwise.
That is a loss for Freo and Melbourne.
What Melbourne have done is offered up our pick 19 which forces Carlton to strike a better deal or Warnock comes to us. This would result in a win for both Freo and Melbourne. The world doesn't revolve around carlton mate. What your arrogant football dept doesn't understand is that both parties have to be satisified and you are refusing to match the market value for Warnock.

No way would i striaght swap thornton for warnock, he was great this year before his injury and killed brown in round 20. All these muppet hawks supporters keep paying out on thornton when your club is the one that wants him more than anyone. Thornton is a better defender than croad!

its getting to the stage now where carlton may have to move on.

They have placed a value on Warnock at pick 24. They may be willing to offer a sweetner to that...but wont go higher than 2nd round pick.

Carlton have 3 ruckmen that will hold up. Perhaps they have to show they are willing to walk away.

If they do not value Warnock at more than pick 24, time to move on....cant see why mediation would come into it.

The instant they walk away, Warnock knows that they aren't really interested. That's why they aren't walking away. While they have Warnock interested, they have a chance of getting Freo to buckle. As soon as Warnock says "OK, send me to Melbourne" deal gets done.

Carlton are stalling.

Also if we are looking on the bright side ...at least your ruck division in 2009 will not slip any further down the ruck ladder regardless of the outcome (until GC come in and then you may go down 1 more place to 17th).

Tell Warnock, let us move on and tell Cloke he had better do a big pre-season as if your number 1 ruck (what is he 30th in the league?) gets hurt ...it is going to be a very long season.

woul rather have good mids than a good ruck.

look what happened when we played freo this year, sandilands won basically every tap yet we still won the clearances and the game

Also gilham is a spud!!! I played with him in school footy and he was soo overated. still is

I agree.

However they will be looking to screw us as we have screwed them.

Freo were only going to do 1 trade Warnock (Carr being chump change or PSD material). Carlton I think were looking at others.

We have screwed that up.

Also on Warnock lets stop pretending we care ....most clubs couldn't give a flying fig - we draft kids and make them go anywhere we want.

Carlton have got in his ear with a large offer and tried to screw us, we are standing firm and want Melb deal so we wont get screwed and Warnock will probably screw us for screwing him.

Freo screwed with no compensation
Carlton screwed by not fixing an area of weakness
Melb ....lying back smoking a ciggy and listening to Barry White
Warnock ...hey he gets paid and ends up back in Melb

It is the AFL way and the advantage of finsihing last - if 2 sides play chicken, the spooners get to pick through the wrekage looking for change.

I just wish this whole Warnock situation is resolved. It's frustrating reading the same thing over and over again about how Carlton won't move on pick 24 and Fremantle want that and something. In the end Carlton is going to give us something better because they desperately want him. If they didnt they would have given up by now just like they did with O'Keefe. Come on Carlton lift your game!

Sorry, can you explain why freo should determine where an out of contract player should continue their career? If you left your job (assuming you're employed) would you take instruction from your previous employer on where you should work? This is what freo is doing essentially.

Should we perhaps move to the NRL model which was adjudicated in the courts? The system in place in the AFL now only exists with everyones goodwill. If clubs keep persisting with this immature stance and go silly on the belief that they have control or a say in where out of contract go or what they should receive for players they have no legal claim on then it deserves to fall over.

I could understand if the offer was unreasonable, but being pedantic for the sake of it is pushing this deal closer to a Bosman ruling or similar to Adamson v New South Wales Rugby League (1991). As Justice Wilcox stated in that case - "How in a free society can anyone justify a regime which requires a player to submit such intensely personal decisions to determination by others?"

So all it will take is for one club to push this ridiculous notion that they have any rights or say in where a player conitnues his career and we'll have our own case listing in the annuls of the courts

Heard on Sky Sports we offer that type of deal, pick 24 and a young WA players but you guys knocked it back.

Why not just make it a lucky dip ....WA palyers beginning with B in a hat or get Billy's wheel going.

tick tick tick tick ....Browne woo hooo

or tick tick tick Benjamin - ummmmm I think that one is a liner. Spin again?

I agree, Carlton really should stop being so ridiculous and thinking they have any right or say in where Warnock continues his career. :thumbsu:

We are the only ones with a say - Carlton is the club he wants to go to

In every other competition and democracy Warnock would've just walked away and arrived at Carlton without problem or compensation to the previous club. Your behaviour will ensure this will apply to AFL soon

FFS stop comparing footy players to people with ordinary jobs. they are under a whole different set of laws and isn't warnock under contract?

Ummmm because that is the model we are currently under?

He is our player and during trade period we do get to say where he goes or at least have to agree to it. After trade week we have no say.

It is very noble though ...when GC come in I look forward to you accepting GC's pick 30 for Hampson not because it is the right compensation but simply because it is the right thing to do.

It is funny how a lot of Carlton 'Amnesty International' supporters are here now ....where were you when Thornton was being denied his basic human rights in moving to Hawthorn? You cost him a premiership medallion too ...how do you sleep at night?

We have screwed with a few clubs minds using the PSD when we were down there.

In essence I don't care if it is challenged - it will happen eventually.

Don't really know why everyone is getting their knickers in a knot ....we think A, Carlton think B - one cracks or both don't.

Warnock will be playing football next year and getting paid. What is the big deal it has happened before and it will happen again.

Poor odl Melbourne finish last and suddenly everyone cares that a good player is going to drop.

Billy, "No trade"

Freo go to try and get pick 19 that is suposedly on the table from the Dees but the Dees say, "what pick?".

The Dees then get an early christmas present and everyone is happy. :thumbsu:

Yes football may be their job but this is a completely different industry to other careers. The players know this going into their footy career.

Freo are not telling Robbie he has to go to Carlton, Robbie is telling Freo he wants to go there. So essentially he is holding the club ransom.
Freo would be happy to deal with any other club if they came up with the right deal and it has been like this for years and shouldn't change for mummy's boys wanting to go home after spending 3 years away. This is the industry.

woul rather have good mids than a good ruck.

Well if you meet us in the GF in 2009 ....you will probably win.

Also I agree on your assessment of your rucks and your mids.

Imagine what would happen if you .......put...... and this is a far out suggestion - a good ruckman with your midfield.

Insane - I know?

Judd and his merry band of brothers roving to a CHF - how is that working for you?

I am so impressed with Freo playing hardball. The football world was shocked last year when Carlotn through sheer imcopetence and ******edness on the football field were in a position to negotiate a deal that saw them get the number one pick and Judd. Meanwhile Freo have been an easy target at trade time, one example could be when finals bound Collingwood traded tarrant for Medhurst and pick 8.

That is why it is pleasing in a few respects that Freo are playing hardball on this one.

Liner ...re-spin ;)

Guys - Dean Bailey is on the phone how much does a beamo cost from Denpesar airport to the Ratuone Rama Hotel? (not sure if he is there BTW just talking rubbish like everyone else in this thread).

God I hate trade hour.
