He really is a pitiful human being. He would play for the Casuarina Prisoners team if they offered him enough money.

That is the crux of it. Yet another club compromised by a player naming a 'preferred destination'. If no-one else showed interest then fair enough, take pick 24 but Melb have pick 19 sitting on the table...

So basically we are fitting over 5 picks?.........Oh dear.

Its a big difference in this years draft. Its the difference between Tom Swift/Stephen Hill and Matt De Boer... Which is alot in terms of talent btw.

Pick 19 is a fair deal and Carlton should be worried about this outcome because its the most likely at this point IMO.
It's not the most likely unless Warnock accepts it. The most likely based on what has been said so far, is that Warnock is going into the national draft.

I thought the Dees offered him between 200-400k less over the 4 years. I think in general Warnock wants to get as close to Pratt as possible
The Dees can not get Warnock without paying him what Carlton has offered. If money is his motivating factor, Melbourne will have to match it and the trade goes through. If Carlton/Judd/Pratt/Midfield etc is his motivating factor, then no trade will be done unless it is with Carlton.

If no trade is done with Carlton and he goes into the national or preseason draft, any team that takes him will have to match the Carlton offer.

In that case hes still not gonna end up at Carlton... I fail to see how you hold the power here. Theres a difference between missing out on pick 3 20 and Josh Kennedy and missing out on a measley pick 24...

So you are saying the quality in this year's draft pretty much only extends to the top 20 and there is a noticable drop off after that point?

I bet Bower is not getting the same money that Warnock is reported to be getting offered.

Fact is Carlton have shown they rate him highly by the money they have offered. Last year Pies gave up a late frsit round for Wood, that's the bench mark, meet it or miss out.

The AFL should stay out of it.

Just because the Pies were stupid enough to give up a first round pick for Wood (who has been terrible in 2008), why should the Blues follow suit?

If anything it just re-enforces that parting with a first round pick for an unproven bean pole is a mistake.

If Warnock does go PSD can you imagine the fallout.

Freo supporters will somehow claim a win because they stood up to the world and showed they are no pushover.....................................and lost a player or pick for nothing. Will go down with everybody else, even by Freo's attrocious trading standards, as a spectacularly bad trade outcome. Personally I hope this happens so that I can see the excuses that Harvey makes up to justify it all.

Carlton will rue a missed opportunity to pick up Warnock, but will use pick 24 on a young kid with potential and will still try and get Warnock to slip through to them in the PSD

Melbourne will throw the sink at trying to match Carlton's pay offer and get Warnock with #1 in the PSD. Melbourne will also keep pick 19 and pick up a good kid with potential.

End of the day, No trade with Carlton the big winners will be Melbourne, Carlton will break even and the losers will be Freo.

Freo trade with Carlton then Carlton and freo break even Melbourne lose out

Freo trade with Melb for pick 19 cant happen unless Warnock agrees to go to Melbourne.

Imagine trying to shaft the employer who gave you the chance no one else would....

Fact is without Freo and all the effort (which was huge) they put in trying to get his body right he would be at the local bar serving drinks right now.

Millions of people gain training from their employers when they are fresh ot of uni or school.

Their qualificatons improve and their skills improve.

The employer needs to pay them what they are worth. If a rival business is willing to pay more - they pay more.

Rio, BHP & FMG poach each others employees all the time.

Clubs are just as disloyal as players - they aint no saints

Look at the way Josh Kennedy was scrapheaped by Carlton last year - he wanted to stay a blue, was contracted and still got stiffed.

Warnock finished his contract as is free to walk. AFL is professional now - open your eyes

I'm not saying he will end up at Carlton or that we hold the power. It's just that Freo don't hold many cards at all and someone else is likely to benefit from that.

Let's face it, us missing out on Warnock is nothing like us missing out on Judd. Last year, it was a dangerous game being played. This year, it is a luxury.

So you are saying the quality in this year's draft pretty much only extends to the top 20 and there is a noticable drop off after that point?

From 19 to 24 yes. Look at the phanton drafts and look at the difference in quality from 19 to 24. Its a big difference

Freo trade with Carlton then Carlton and freo break even Melbourne lose out
Melbourne can't lose out here, in any way, shape or form.

Because the Blues can walk away from this deal no sweat - having lost a potential player.

With Judd - they couldn't risk walking away or let Richmond get him

Freo are the only ones that can loose out here.
Warnock is no Judd........ If Carlton don't get him......so What?
No 6 might get them Vickery in the Draft or 24 Seaby at the Trade table or no ruckman at all and just persist with their young ruckmen and Cloke....it's no big deal.
I'm no Carlton lover but I just don,t see the value of Warnock in this draft at anything more than the offered 24.
The market always dictates the price in any business......A quality ruckman like MacIntost didn't get a bid........Market Price= What you get.

So you are saying the quality in this year's draft pretty much only extends to the top 20 and there is a noticable drop off after that point?

The difference is that West Coast get 2 picks in between our 1st pick and pick 24 which means they get to double dip on the WA kids before we even get a look in, thats why those 5 positions are so valuable.

Millions of people also pay for their training (uni fees). In Warnocks case he owes he is a asset or a investment. Hes like a house. If i spend 150 000 on building a house im not gonna sell it for 151 000. This is essentially what Carlton want Fremantle to do.

Geez it is all too simple for some people isn't it?

Firstly, who says Warnock is worth that pick?

The fact you guys offered him such a great deal he wants to go to Carlton, much more money than Melbourne, yet you aren't prepared to offer what he is worth on the trade table.

Thats the part where you are wrong. Warnock has expressed that his preferred destination is definately Carlton but he has at no stage ruled Melbourne out... his manager said as much on SEN last night.

The Age: "The Dockers ruckman, however, is not believed to be keen on moving to the Demons."

HUN: "Robbie Warnock is hell-bent on moving to Carlton"

Stay strong Robbie!

LOL ! You are pretty confident of your draft positions there when a lot more knowledgeable than yourself rate Hill top 12, while others say the Hawks wouldn't go near DeBoer because they rate kicking skills so highly. What makes DeBoer a better prospect than Rhys O'Keefe or Matthew Broadbent who are around the mark.

Now that Freo are quibbling over 5 spots the WA talent is magically hovering around the 17-23 mark.....laughable and short-sighted recruiting. BAck your recruiting team to pick best available and then back your club to keep them.

Blues can walk away and have no sweat. They still will have Cameron Cloke as their number 1 ruckman and they will still have a weak ruck force. That smells like sweat to me

pick 16 (even tho i dont want hawks to trade it) to sydney with boyle for okeefe. do the blue have anything sydney want? that player + 2nd rounder for pick 16.

pick 16->fremantle for warnock. only way i can see it happening

If its only 5 spots why dont you just get those 5 spots by trading with Melbourne. Shouldnt take much. Its not that big of a difference as you say. Infact you can trade with us for our pick 18....

Amazing, they are quotes straight from Robbies mouth aren't they?????

It's rather ironic in this thread that you don't see why Freo would prefer to draft a local player
