WAR - would you go???

Australia did sign a treaty with USA saying if one country gets attacked the other will help and defend them.

So in this case, USA gets attacked and thousands of people die. Australia has a relationship with the Americans which is unique and we want to keep it that way.

By doing so we would have to support them, and if u just imagined everyone in this country saying "No i will not go, dont want to die" then the relationship between Australia and USA will evaporate.

Then.. If Australia was attacked, and the USA citizens gets the same attitude like Australians and say NO! then who is f*cked?
Im sure the American troops are scared, but they signed up to be a marine, and its time for them to do their job...

Basically, I don't think I'd have the courage to sign myself up for any form of the defence forces if there was a war going on in another part of the world, but I have a huge amount respect for those who do/would.
Having said that, if there was a situation on a similar scale that occurred in Australia, I would do something - in what capacity, I don't know exactly (and I hope I never have the opportunity to find out), but i would do something.

Frankly, if nobody in the western world goes to war, we lose and then as far as Im concerned life isnt worth living.

I dont buy the crap that because Australia isnt under threat I wont go. We are at risk here! I cant beleive how many Aussies think we are some sort of robot is who is immune from an attack.

We have signed agreements with the USA. Basically, as far as the world is concerned, we are in the same basket as the USA.

If we ever got in real serious trouble, the USA would be the first there to save our ar$es.

Remember, every Anzac day, we think of those that fought for us. If it wasnt for people like them, we wouldnt have our freedom we do today.

Im sure they didnt really WANT to go either.

But geez, are we lucky they did!!

I wouldnt want to go, but Id see it as no choice.

As an ex-digger who hasn't fought in any wars I look on the sacrifice made by those who did, & give thanks to them. They are the reason we enjoy the way of life Australians have. Nobody in their right mind wants war, but if it happens & we are involved I don't see another alternative. To those of you who say I wouldn't fight under any circumstances, go to an ANZAC day march & thank those diggers who fought for your right to hold that view. If you don't want to go that's fine, we still need reservists in the rear echelons & at home to supply the troops up front that will do the fighting. Everyone can still "do their bit". It is those who try to sabotage that are the real traitors. Given the views I've read on this thread, there is not one of you who would not do something to assist if the occasion arose. I haven't read a post that said "I would sabotage the Australian effort". Everyone has different levels of committment.

If there was a direct threat to myself and my family then i would definently go. If it was in support of another nation then i probably wouldnt
